MOJO EXCLUSIVE| Elections Are Marked By Escalating Pak Narrative: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has weighed in on the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, emphasizing significant deviations from past electoral processes.
In an interview with MOJO Story Azad raised concerns over the prevalence of mudslinging among political rivals and the escalating trend of leveraging Pakistan as an electoral issue, urging a refocus on pressing domestic challenges.
He underscored the intensifying atmosphere of political competition, noting that while parties vie for supremacy, the essence of healthy political discourse is compromised by excessive point-scoring. Emphasizing the need for constructive engagement, he stressed that political adversaries are not enemies but rather competitors in the democratic arena.
Of particular concern to Azad is the emergence of divisive narratives, with factions appearing to engage in electoral warfare against each other. Expressing dismay over the politicization of Pakistan-related issues, he highlighted the need to prioritize internal matters, such as inflation and unemployment, over external distractions.
Drawing attention to the aftermath of Article 370's revocation, Azad questioned the response of local parties and lamented the absence of vocal opposition from Kashmiri MPs. Dismissing accusations of political alignment, he clarified his stance and said he prefers not to reply to the utterances by former chief minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah about him.
Azad reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the region's socioeconomic challenges, particularly unemployment. Despite the scenic beauty and favorable weather of J&K, he emphasized the need for concerted efforts to capitalize on these assets for economic development.
