Probably a wise choice. I’m fascinated by the concept but I have no earthly clue how they’ll push out even the first stage of base building within a year. Someday, hopefully, maybe, it’ll be as cool as it looks
I like the idea of a small organization or I guess a company that is just 8 people and a Pioneer, and they are basically construction contractors who get contracted by individuals or other organizations to go to a location and build whatever it is the customer needs. So, for them base building is a full gameplay loop and not just a one-off thing, and they get to see all of the cool scenic locations that different people have selected for their outposts on a bunch of planets and moons. It would be a pretty chill RP experience, and likely relatively profitable.
Years. And I don't believe a word from CIG spoken at CitizenCon or on any other platform. This is what, the second or third time CR has said that SQ42 is in the polishing phase? My personal take is not planning for anything based on what they've said, only by what is already in the PU or at the bare minimum, something that is at least in greybox. But even then, the BMM was in greybox before they put it back on the shelf.
@@XellithUS In 2012, estimated delivery for SQ42 was 2014. In 2016 CR said they were content and feature locked. In 2016 CR also said they were polishing SQ42 up but needed a bit more time for polishing. In 2017 CR stated that they were getting SQ42 dialed in for release in 2018. In 2018, CIG stated, "Our plan is to be feature and content complete by the end of 2019, with the first 6 months of 2020 for Alpha (balance, optimization and polish)". In 2020, CR and devs made stated that they were no where close to reaching beta phase.
Really enjoy these Drydock videos! Would love to see updates on some of the older ones in the future as we do get new information, not only on just the ship but also aspects that have been updated that could relate to ships
We really need more from Consolidated. I really want to see what their competitor to the Constellation would look like. Or maybe their take on some kind of Military-esque style capital ship. We have so many Aegis, Anvil, and RSI ships. It's time to see something from Consolidated
The main thing I've wanted for Pioneer gameplay is the ability for this ship to sit offsite and deploy work packages to the final location. This would be good work for an Argo SRV, but my reasoning for wanting this is that the ideal base location will often be somewhere the Pioneer won't comfortably fit. My examples have been mountain top bases, a small island in a lake, or similarly tucked into awkward spots. Furthermore, should one wish to repair or expand a base, bringing back a Pioneer and having to land it directly over existing structures will likely be impractical or destructive.
I purchased one of these and have been waiting almost patiently for it to arrive in game. As the game has changed, base building is one thing that I am still excited about. That and flying around in my Connie.
So overwhelmingly excited for base building! Don’t know what the limits will be but imagine ur organizations settlements slowly merging into a city or even taking over the entire planet?! Wow! 😮
Given how difficult it will be to handle big ships solo, and that base building won't be exclusive for this ship, just the bigger builds, I have stopped wanting one (but I cheer on everyone that has it!) as I will have medium ships that will probably be able to put a small hab anywhere.
Thanks for another nice video. I was tempted this year to get the Pioneer, but I ended up spent a small fortune buying a lot of other ships, including the Galaxy, and figured I can wait until next year's IAE to see if the price is the same and to replenish my wallet.
As with every new asset or game loop... I seriously hope CIG has at least thought the basics of this through. They need to make sure that one can create bases that can be owned by someone else. Not to put too fine a point on it, they need to make sure that the owner of the land can assign both permanent and temporary access to their land for personnel and objects so that they don't have to own one of these. They should be able to hire someone. Now you might think that this is obvious and "of course they would have thought of it". Problem is that they don't have a track record of recognizing this currently and they probably should have addressed this years ago when they introduced the 890 jump and Carrack. They need to allow the ship to be brought into the world by the owner and then utilized by others without disappearing just because the owner logged off. Anyway... thanks for this informative take on the Pioneer Farrister. Always a pleasure to see your content.
I think they're in the design phase for it now, so hopefully they're thinking through some of those things you've mentioned! But no doubt whatever they come up with will need to stand up to player testing. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
At the thought of a fabricator big enough to create structures, could it function like a large scale 3d printer? Loading preset building segments and accepting metals and polymers to create them. Possibly even creating say I don’t know… a cheap skeleton frame rover from a preset for use planetside, similar to a space race era moon rover but with more of a, cheap/manufactured design? Just an idea or two.
@@Farrister btw man, this is obviously not coming out anytime soon but I’ve been looking for a good size org to help with base building and mining operations. I’ve got the Pioneer and Orion preordered as well as the Arrastra incase it isn’t gonna be a loaner. Love to help out in the mean time
I’m stoked that base building development was announced for next quarter. I know the Pioneer is down the road but I cannot wait for it. Another excellent video from the drydock series which includes an awesome Silas impersonation 😄 I assembled a prefabricated base on the like button as requested!
The Pioneer would be a very interesting ship to own. Unfortunately having to take part in F5 wars, no CCUs and no LTI, as little as it's supposed to not matter, makes it a hard ship to approach. Not to mention the price is rather high for a single digital asset.
I wonder, Farrister, just how much a Citizen would have to pay for a Pioneer to come build their Homestead? Are we gonna see the Star Citizen version of Taylor Wimpy, or Barratt Developments using this ship??
I imagine pioneers will be expensive to hire while a galaxy with a base building module will be much more ubiquitous, and much cheaper to run for a smaller facility. I very much expect people to pay for a pioneer or a couple galaxies to come out and build for them.
I hope its not just ground or space bases, but the ability to build ships etc from blueprints/reverse engineering - as they would give a reason for org - play (Those that wanna fight, can gain blueprints from raiding npc bases, those that want to mind provide the materials that go towards the production etc)
Re: fabrication. Right now, ppl only want to bother mining the fancy expensive stuff that sells for a lot. It would be good to have genuine use for things like iron, copper, aluminum, and maybe even inert materials.
Unless your base somehow magically disappears or gets an invincibility forcefield once one logs off, I doubt I'll have any interest in it, ever. Spending time and resources building a base only for it to be a smoking pile of rubble next time you log on; yeah no thanks. More ships equals more better though, this one included. But I doubt we'll see this particular one in the next 5 years. I even think the BMM will come out first.

You neglected to mention the historic kerfuffle that erupted when they also sold Land Claim Licenses with and without the ship. 😁😆🤣
"Kerfuffle" seems generous? :D
I wonder how the Galaxy with the base building module will compare? Thanks for another great video, Farrister!
Quite well for many bases, but perhaps the key difference is that it isn't expected to build the XL bases!
I would love to see a heavy cargo variant of this boy

There will be different levels of risk (and cost/reward) depending on where you place down.
This is my concern as well. I wonder what the tax in the safer systems will be?
