I think Ana looks like if someone were to make a statue of Marilyn Monroe. Sharper features that look more 'deliberate' and less soft. Generally the beauty standards today appear to be shifting towards a more statuesque beauty and carved out, solid look that's instantly readable and doesn't need to rely on motion (e.g smiling or facial expression, brow raises) for beauty.

I think too many stories on Marilyn focus on her sex appeal and sadness. Sad little pretty girl. However, Marilyn was a riot. She was fun. Most actresses chosen to play her aren't natural and talented comedians with great timing, inflection, with the ability to exaggerate words and be perfectly ridiculous while delivering a supposed serious line. And Marilyn could.

Finding an actor for this is always very challenging.
I remember when the movie "I, Tonya" was released, about the ice skater Tonya Harding.
I was a bit upset that they have selected Margot Robbie instead of Amy Adams (that looks so much more like Tonya). But after watching the movie I understood that it was much more than just looking exactly like the original one. Margot done an amazing job there.
Also, in this movie Margot wasn't portrait as the perfect beautiful/sexy girl or super hero and I believe that is the only reason why this movie is not so popular.

I had the exact thoughts about Charlize Theron playing Aileen Wournos, ans it bugged me how media reviwed it as a masterpiece Theron "playing someone so ugly" (as if her apperance was her big performance) - until I saw the movie. I followed that up with seeing a documentary about Wournos as well, and the similarities in behaviour, voice and mannerisms were eerily similar. Therons performance was impeccable.
Now, I haven't watched the Marilyn movie and cannot say anything about it, but I did learn that looks are far from everything.

I really wish we'd stop making trends out of people's body types and facial features. How many people have had buccal fat removal or BBLs that they will soon regret when those things are no longer fashionable? I just wish people would stop looking outward for approval, and learn to appreciate themselves no matter what's trending. I have a very soft, childlike face, to the extent I am turning 21 next week and I still sometimes get mistaken for a 14-15 year old. I guess that's something I have in common with Judy Garland, who was almost 17 when she played 12-year-old Dorothy! I'm hoping I someday age into my features a little, as I'd love to remind people of Marilyn, but if I don't I won't be disappointed either - I know I'm pretty in my own way.

I know she has some different features but something about her works for me.We will never find a perfect replica of Marilyn and something will always be compromised. Another thing I think about it that I am sure accents get slaughtered all the time and we don't even notice it. Like American people speaking other languages in film.
We also see people do an American accent all the time but I feel like I usually see other non American English speakers. Those accents arent always perfect either but more acceptable. I think we need to be more diverse and accepting of other non English accents. It's not ideal, I know but we'd be missing out on so much more talent if we're being so restrictive. I occasionally hear American accents not being done perfectly but it doesn't change up the feeling of what I'm watching. I have enough of an imagination to go with it. At first, I was thinking, well she doesn’t look exactly like Marilyn, but there are definitely similarities. But then I looked at some pictures of Ana on Google and in a normal environment, in normal lighting that is not a movie setting with a retro-esque filter added afterwards like we see her in the movie trailer, she does not look like Marilyn at all. She is a completely different type in terms of her body and face. It’s not even the dark hair and eyes, because MM obviously was a natural brunette as well. She just has such sharp and "hard" features compared to Marilyn who was very soft and rounded obviously. Ana also has a smaller head and is taller and skinnier than MM was. In my opinion, Ana is a Kibbe natural or dramatic classic. A huge difference is also the eyes. Ana has very cat-like eyes, while Marilyn’s were down-turned, almost droopy (and you’re right, still lightweight which is fascinating), which gave her that dreamy, romantic look. Like you mentioned, Ana‘s mouth is also much sharper and has a different shape overall.
What also bothers a lot of people is her Cuban/Latino accent and though I have to say it’s not ideal, what I think is more unfortunate is the way she fakes Marilyn’s voice itself. She’s just speaking so "breathy" and pitches her voice up to where it doesn’t come across as natural anymore. All in all not a great choice for Marilyn, if I’m being honest.

So can't we say that "Marilyn Monroe" is a created persona and not a real person? Norma Jeane Mortenson is the real person. It would be interesting to see an observational study on her Kibbe type and the realities of who she was.

I was a little disappointed they got someone with an olive skin tone to represent someone irish and pale. Tan skin is so celebrated in the west it's nice that marilyn embraced a feature many of us have but don't see as beautiful by today's standards.

Olive means green tho, not tan. You can be pale and olive which means the skin is not pink or red in tone

The choice of an actor or actress is based also (and prevalently!) on the acting abilities. Fysical similarities and make up do matter, but the actor has to interprete i.e. give HIS version of a character. Acting Is art and talent first of all!

  • @claudiaschneidernola2154

When doing a movie it's not just hair, makeup, and the wardrobe the acting and convincing people that she is Marilyn is the most important part. If this was an editorial photoshoot it would be different, but doing a movie is a totally different ballgame. In my opinion, Ana de Armas nailed it all.

Ana probably has Ingenue Natural essence and Marylin has primarily Romantic essence, that is the difference between the 2. I wish you would talk more about essences, that is the main thing responsible for face and body not matching and makes a huge deal in the style that suits someone best.

Marilyn may have had her time as the most desirable woman but i never understood it growing up since so many other girls smoked her in beauty once the natural look became desirable. I would be honored if Ana was to play me in a movie, she looks like she was carved out in perfection. Absolutely beautiful and also talented, looks like a real life doll. Since you study Marilyn, you may see the difference but i just remember the hair, make-up and white skin. Marilyn in a natural state is pretty but average. I guess that's why we love sharp features now (Aubrey Hepburn is a good example), because it looks unattainable.

For example I was told once I move around like some princess lmfao
I don’t understand what means, I’m pretty tiny,
But it also might make sense when I see tall women I totally envy them they move with such dominance and authority. I love it lo
Wish I was 6 foot lol

Love a video of different body types walking or making gestures. It would
Help out a lot as well.
