Nancy Barrett was one of the best actors on the show. She played so many roles differently and beautifully. She was on her mark with no hesitations or awkward delays. Some of the veterans on the show could have learned from this young ingenue.

This show came on at 330 in the afternoon. School let out at 315. I would run home. Run in the house turn on the TV just as the show was getting started. If my mom was home she would know better than to bother me while I watched this show. I absolutely LOVED THIS SHOW!!! Barnabus was my favorite character.
I'm 62 and we catch this soap every day, just as I did as a youngster in the 1960s. Grayson was fine actress, yes, but she always seemed to struggle with her lines. She seemed to be constantly searching in her mind for what path or direction to take to make her point. It was almost as if she was ad-libbing.
You and I are the same age. I just turned 62. I used to run home to catch this show only to hide behind the sofa when Jonathan Frid came on the scene. Fast forward 20 years and you find me I am watching reruns of it on PBS and laughing until there were tears in my eyes at the bad acting. I don't think anyone on this show could remember their lines except for Nancy Barrett. And how did she get the part in her hair so straight? Did she use a ruler to divide as she brushed it into place? Note: I loved and still love this show.
In the DVD extras for this, they have a fascinating interview with Dick Smith, who did the aging makeup for Barnabas. It was a very complex process that took several hours to put on (and take off). Dick Smith remarks that Jonathan Frid was very calm and helpful throughout the process. Which also involved making a plaster "life mask" of his head. Smith later went on to do the aging effects for Dustin Hoffman in "Little Big Man". And for F Murray Abraham in "Amadeus".
What is so strange at the end of the scene is that Carolyn is not even looking at Barnabas when he is talking to her and not attempting to break loose from him. You would think she would be looking straight into his eyes.

I haven't reached this part in my binge watching of 'Dark Shadows', but Carolyn is likely in danger of strangulation death by Barnabas after finding out his true identity, like what happened to Jason Maguire.

And it seems to me that dark shadows was almost like a never ending story of thrills one after the other in continuation Which was always a mystery which remained throughout the whole series And was dark shadows always centred around at the old house where everything throughout the original series in the main setting of the scenes And would it be that some of the episodes would go back in time in the storylines like 1700’s 1800’s especially with Barnabas as a vampire And wasn’t it all about how everything were echoes of the past of people who had once lived in the old house but everyone was terrified always by the supernatural phenomena which occurred even in the times when Elizabeth stoddard lived with her family in the current moments in the series and the film and a lot of vampires which were involved in the series too. And wants Maggie evans usually the person who was always a mystery and disappeared and cause some trouble maybe for people for wondering where she was.
Why did Barnabas give himself away like that? Carolyn did not recognize him. I am trying to remember how Carolyn got out of this mess. Did Julia hypnotize her to forget as she did Maggie? Or did Barnabas' bite have the same effect?
Like he said, it was already too late for her to escape. Hey, look on the bright side: she could have ended up like Jason McGuire, Dr. Woodard, Reverend Trask, Lt. & Suki Forbes and countless others.

Amazon should have it. A bit pricy, but worth it. The show ran from 1966 to 1971. Beware that you will have to struggle thru some storylines that drag on a bit. Luckily most of them have satisfying endings. The back story timelines such as the 1795 & the 1840's are very good.
Carolyn Nancy Barrett really was all different personalities and characters throughout the series and I really never understand her character either And wasn’t she meant to be crazy a bit sometimes in the series or acted in that way And she was a bit meddlesome or sort of mischievous and spooky.
