I grew up with the writer, Michael R. Jackson, who was our musician at church. He was thoughtful and brilliant even then, but always a very quiet sprint. You never know what magnificence is inside a person, just waiting to come out. Congratulations, Michael. I’m so proud of you but not at all surprised. I can’t wait to see this. To God be the glory.
"His blackness doesn't look blue in any moonlight/which makes it harder to see" Brilliant lyric about not seeing himself represented in the movie Moonlight, which was based on the play Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue
I immediately thought about how Moonlight was used here but maybe there is strange loop in that Usher wants to be proud and at same time never had safety of closet. There are certain ways in which femme queer black /bipop are not afforded safety of closet. Yet i also wonder why he had inner white 🤍 girl and not inner black girl or inner black boy...i know he was inspired by rocker liz phair. Grrl riot culture but i struggle in 2022 to see adult black queer folks seeing themselves locked into blackness when we have Prince Shaka Khan, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston , Jada Punk Pinket , Grace effing Jones. Jonelle Monet. Growing up in Midwest Detroit But i guess i do understand because in the 90s Lilith fair Tori amos was rhythm my heartbeat ...ani Lennox Courtney Love was rebel and controversial figure where rocker feminism you heard and saw was not highly melinated
@ margi cates The show is full of Liz Phair references! When I see it - which I do as often as possible - I wear a Liz t-shirt or a Tori Amos t-shirt (Joni Mitchell, Liz, & Tori are mentioned in the show as the main character/real life show's author's 3 favorite singer-songwriters from when he was in high school). I wore a Liz shirt to today's matinee & will wear a different Liz shirt on Sunday... am lucky enough to live nearby & to have access to some discounts.
@@theantwaynhopper We - in the audience - missed you today! Luckily for me, it was my 3rd visit to the Bway production so I've seen you perform #6 twice; your understudy is great but you, sir, are a particular favorite of my husband & me. Hope if you're sick that you recover quickly.
Chuck, I know this comment of yours is not new, but when you posted it "AStrange Loop" had not just already made it to Broadway, but it had already won the 2022 Best New Musical Tony Award. It's nice that you wished it a (strong) Broadway run, but as a fan of this show I am wondering: honestly, why do you care whether it opened on Broadway or not? I ask because: despite glowing reviews and audiences that love the show once they've actually seen it... this musical recently announced that it will close in early 2023. All these people who love the show after seeing (free) clips online can't be bothered to buy tickets. So, if you're near NYC, please make it your business to get tickets, come here, and see "A Strange Loop," because as things stand now, this Best Musical Tony winner will not even get a national tour, much less an opportunity for anyone at all to see the show once it closes in January. The producers understandably believe that audiences don't want to see this show & they're not going to throw good funding after bad by making arrangements to let anyone new see the show once it closes at the Lyceum. I'm not saying all this for myself. I've seen the show repeatedly & brought friends & family to come see it... and I wasn't online hoping that somehow the current Tony winner was going to make it to opening on Broadway (I can see it whenever I want to, and this will remain true even after it closes next year) But for people like you, who are interested enough to post online but not enough to know that it's on Broadway now and that because it's hilarious & moving, & has great music & an amazing cast... you really do need to see it & to let the producers know - by showing up - that we need a national tour and a professionally filmed version of the stage show (without changing or censoring the book or lyrics) so this world can continue to have access to the best thing I've seen in many, many years (and I see everything because I'm here & because I can).
I wish that some own voices collaborators could have given their views in this video rather than only hearing from the director. Seems like a cool show, though!

I didn’t interpret it that way. And why should he need to feel “reflected” in “Moonlight”? That’s another man’s story.
How was he not represented in Moonlight?
@@aboutjbe because he’s not closeted and wants to be proud. Keep up. Moonlight was about heavy repression

Easily the best modern production I’ve seen. Loved it.
We really didn't need the director to interrupt the song. Whoever edited this - what were you thinking?
