    These go by my house every few years. Usually a fire truck follows as the brush has caught fire so bad a few times the sprayer couldn't keep up.

    I have only seen this once, in the daytime and it was something I’ll never forget. The sparks were very impressive in broad daylight. Honestly seemed just as impressive as this video but the video probably doesn’t capture everything you see. This is the only rail grinder video I have seen that had sparks flying out like what I witnessed. Thanks for sharing.

      @@chaoticboi2257 One spark can set of a fire ten minutes later. That is the problem, and we have seen it here in Sweden that a train set of a fire just by sparks from the brakes. If it is VERY dry, then almost nothing can trigger it.

    i remember when doing a video of mow equipment with an underside shot of each machines that one of the machines a git an underside shot of was a LORAM rs 1012 rail grinder it was really cool to get that shot of its underside

    I’ve ran my share of bench grinders and I know the smell of grinding metal. I can only imagine the smell as that animal rolled by. I have never seen such a thing.

      +Quackerkats gaming network Almost always done at night, often goes unnoticed and is underappreciated. And some grinders can get 100 miles in a night so once it's gone it'll be at least a year till it's back.

      Rail Grinder is a maintenance technique to smooth out irregularities on the surface of the rails... but I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be spraying water on the rails to suppress the sparks as it could lead to fire. Perhaps the water tanks ran out...

      To smooth out the surface of the rail. It's the same process done when you get a key made. The grind and buffer the surface for any metal shavings.
