@Alexandra Garrett Hey, I have had my 8k unit for a couple months now, and i can say its worth it. So quiet and no issues yet. Compared to my old unit I wanted to push out the window cause how much noise it caused, plus that compressor rattling/ringing/clicking I have never heard since its outside my window. I would say having a double pane window is also a huge help for blocking out the noise. I also put the black foam striping on bottom, he didnt in this video.
Don’t know how I missed how the bottom of the window comes down on each side to seal from the outside. I have always liked small window units either for cooling a smaller space or as a back or any reason needed. I sure like what I see here. Thanks a lot for the information. Would be a great item for the elderly that may live in small apartments or a single room where they are bed ridden. Great gift for ones that can’t afford it.👍🇺🇸🤙😃
Hi, I live in Texas. Will this cool a 500 sq ft room? Want it to cool really well. Also would the 12,000 BTU be better than the 8,000? Want someone to tell me that this actually cools a room by itself please. Will it really cool a room?
I reviewed this open minded...my house was built in the 50's and didn't have central AC so everyone is forced to get window units of some variety, go ductless, or go with a new central AC install along with duct work. Window units are the cheapest to buy but their efficiency wasn't great, along with the annual install/deinstall/storage issue, and your windows aren't so secure and/or sealed. I think this one really solves a lot of the major pains involved...easy to install, CEER 15 efficiency rating...just checked HD's page and theirs are 11-12 CEER. I love that it is quiet and you can use your phone as a remote. Wish they had this around quite a few years ago! Pricing isn't all that bad either...easily get your money back in a summer with this efficiency rating!
I am so happy that it's quiet. It seems like the saddle-type setup lends to that, keeping the condenser separated from the inside of the room even just a little more. From what I have read, the condenser doesn't "bang" on like it does in traditional window units. Mine is due to arrive in a week and I am looking forward to seeing for myself.
@@kshaf35 This review doesn't do the unit justice. I have had it running in my house for the last month and it is sooo quiet compared to another $400 smart window unit I have in a different part of the house. How many BTUs did you get?
The Handyman I got 10,000 BTUs. I was going to go with 8, but the room it will be in gets hit with sun all day long, and the house is 112 years old, so not much (no) insulation.
Just installed the exact same unit last night. It is really quiet. There are alot of gaps to fill with insulation. Other than that it seems great so far.

Not bad, & thanks for sharing with us👍🏻 Cheers Number One Home Improvement Channel in the World✌🏼 Forgot to add, like that comes with the support brace/bracket/etc...for over hanging the window. I bought one of these a few weeks ago (I don't have it yet) but when I saw it, I was like "Why has no one ever thought of this!?" and I bought one immediately (because I need a new AC anyway)
@@ping415 I like to for the most part. It's super quiet. One thing I don't like is how loud the beeps are when you change a setting. Temp, fan speed etc... it's can also make a really loud sound when it's off if the wind blows by very fast. Like a really loud fluttering sound (almost never happens though)
I had a u-shaped design from montgomery wards or sears that was made in the 60's. Blew like an arctic storm. It must have been 24" across and 18" tall, but had a pass through that was only about 6"x3"
Makes a lot of sense as far as design. You only need the high and low pressure lines, and the wires between the two sides. However, you also need more metal for support. Since all of these get shipped from far away lands, that's more costly too. Easier and less expensive to make a full box.
@@btritchie They are by far my favorite AC's. I wish I got a 10k BTU for my living room, but they do a great job at keeping the rooms cool and are SOOOOO quiet. Even on high it's not a bother. I would recommend getting one if you can. It's also nice that it comes with its own bracket, super easy to install.
Gotta get an old house with old style windows, so I can have this new tech! Lmao how does it compare to other window units, btu, power consumption, price?
The fact that it's rated at 12,000BTU is nice, but, it's still a window air conditioner. Now, if someone comes up with a heat pump that will fit that space, with a similar output, that would work on 115v wall outlet, it would be nice.
I live in Central Texas and sometimes get really bad thunderstorms where the rain hits the side of the window hard, is there good way to block water from coming in? how does that work?
The unit itself seems to be a Toshiba based unit. How do I know? I'm staring at one in my window and it has the same white display and features including the AUTO COOL DRY FAN in that exact same order lol.
I always wondered why in US it is not used the 2 unit system AC? (indoor wall mounted + outdoor) Wouldn' be easier? + wouldn't have to leave ur window open! Thx!
We have a split in our attic, which is a refinished room. The unit is fairly sleek as far as they go (it's a Mitsubishi), but it would be too large for some rooms and we also have quite a few rooms that would not be cooled if the doors were closed. It's more convenient to have central air, but our house is 112 years old and it's not easy to snake the vents into all the rooms of the house. We'll keep this Midea unit in one bedroom in the front of our house that is south-facing and gets hit with a lot of full day sun. We live in a fairly temperate zone in a mid-Atlantic state in the US.
Cool but... it’s not sealed at the top where the two sashes meet. It would be nice if it had a flexible flap that would fill the gap and still allow the opening of the window
I saw that, with the key feature of the unit being that you can easily open the window, that would make it impractical. With all of the design that went into that units shape, the blocks in the side the bracket. It just seems like they would have made a better sealing solution as to maintain the air seal and still allow full operation of the window.
