Every man would have a crimson beauty to warm his cold bones in the winter, a blond for every spring, a American brunette for summer and the Fall, and a black haired ice cold Vixen on the side. You start feeling to emotional, caring about trivial things that men aut not think about , just find you a soulless red head ,she will bring out the mean in ya. Hahaha!.

    I owned a 1998 the original Bond bike for 5 yrs. What you forgot to mention was the handling. Out of all the cruisers I've owned it was the best handling. Extremely low centre of gravity, and excellent suspension. I put some Bub exhaust on it and it improve the sound dramatically.

    I don't think BMW was trying to make an American style cruiser. They were making a German style cruiser. I happen to love the styling. Where I think they made a mistake was de-tuning the boxer motor and making it slow, for a BMW, anyway.

    • @VintageVantage79
      @VintageVantage79 Před 3 lety +4

      I would agree. I have one and love it. Has low-end grunt BUT... reaches some flat areas of acceleration at higher speeds. Still, great ride. Handles better than any cruiser I’ve been on. Very comfortable and gets looks (which I don’t care about... but people are curious due to it’s unique aesthetics and design)

  • @GaragebandandBeyond
    @GaragebandandBeyond Před 4 lety +15

    I've owned, Harleys, Honda's and Yamaha's. Just picked one of these up and it is truly the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. It is actually fast, but in the European VS. American way. If you've ever driven a Mercedes of a BMW car, you'll know what I mean. It doesn't feel fast, but when you down at the speedometer you're already doing 60 in a 35 MPH zone. The acceleration is smooth and civilized and NOT loud. The sound makes a big difference to the brain, but the proof is in the numbers.
    It's a cruiser so 0-60 in 5 seconds is really solid and comparable to anything else in the class.
    Add to it that it is rare and cool looking, I think it looks like a custom bike with the long flat top tank, it's a winner in my book.
    You just have to have the balls to want to stand out and not be one of the sheep.

    I own a R1200CL full bagger version of same family. The C Models are vibe because the rider foot pegs are attached to the motor and they have a 5 speed transmission. Where as the CL models the floorboards mount into the frame and have 6 speed transmission. Best feature of these bikes is the braking system. At the time BMW ABS was light years ahead of HD, and other manufactures. Unfortunately not much demand for these bikes. I have 65,000 miles on mine, been coast to coast couple of times. Its been a great bike.

    I had a ‘98 r1200c, awesome bike, 46k miles in two years and it was just a great bike. I worked part time at a BMW bike shop and would trade beer to the mechanic to do mods. Added heated grips, some fog lights, Fox shocks and a few other stuff. It was a little rough suspension wise and needed more power, but it was adequate.

I have a super rare 2002 R1200CP (Phoenix) same as the one in this video sans luggage and a 1998 R1200C (Montana) black with white pin stripes with same key hard luggage. The yellow one has 8800 miles and the black one has under 50,000 miles (7000 since major overhaul and new clutch) with the maintenance records back to the day it was imported. Both my C bikes are in great shape and are for sale. Rumble On!

    Looking at that tank in your video brought back good memories. In 2000, I had a brand new R1200C Phoenix, and later, I bought a slightly used Montana (James Bond version that was cream with a blue seat and bags). The day I bought the Phoenix, I went to the dealership to look at a different bike. When I saw the Phoenix, I knew I had to have it. I totally regret selling it. Back then, it seemed it was ahead of its time, but still resembled a cafe bike. It had awesome BBS wheels and Brembo ABS. The engine guards/highway leg rests were a BMW accessory. There were three versions. Using them was scary. I also had rear accessory seats on both of mine. They all came with a driver back rest that flipped down and doubled as a small pillion seat. The Phoenix versions are hard to find and have held their value quite well. In Europe, the Phoenix was called the Independent, and was available in an 800cc version. It was available in a white and copper color combo. Later, bigger cruiser versions, CLC and Montauk were available. I believe production ended in 2004. I wish BMW would bring it back. The only thing that bothered me about the bike was how you had to maneuver your foot under the jug to use the shift lever.

      @LynxStarAuto Před 2 lety

      I've owned a 98 classic now for almost two years. The one featured in the movie (1997) was the standard 1200c in Ivory. These would be dubbed "the original 1200c" or the 1200c Classic once the later variants released. Soft bags were an option, as was abs. There was no windscreen.
      The Montana released in 2001 and had hard leather bags, a medium-ish sized windscreen, a full-size passenger seat, and higher handle bars as standard equipment along with abs.
      The Phoenix released in 2001 and had a single seat, a cafe racer windscreen, fog lamps, two tone paint scheme, and mag wheels. Passenger seating accommodations were all options, as well as ABS.
      The engine crash bars were indeed a BMW accessory and highly recommended. Mine doesn't have ABS (thankfully), and has given me 34k trouble free miles. I love it.

    • @derspeed5796
      @derspeed5796 Před 2 lety

      @@LynxStarAuto I had a Phoenix and a Montana. They were both 2001. I think I wrote 2000 in my original post as that’s when they were purchased. I know how both were equipped. I also bought the hard leather bags and he rear seat and seat pan for my Phoenix. I bought it because it looked more like a café racer. The engine bars were definitely standard with the Montana package. I sold my Phoenix and then bought the Montana a few years later, and I tried to make it look like the Phoenix. The Montana I bought originally belonged to one of my friends . I remember doing side-by-side comparisons while we were shopping for them. To me, the Phoenix was the best looking R1200C. It was known as the Independent in Europe and it was also available in brown and ivory there, along an 800cc version (or something like that). You’re right about the Bond version. It wasn’t a Montana. It was just the same color.

    Hi guys I way h all your vlogs & Caleb is maybe too honest in his appraisal of the bikes being shown, if you purchased a 3 inch DA (dual action) polisher you'd get rid of all those minor scuff marks on the various bikes. I would practice on something first , & there are so many different polishing compounds out there, a mild one is usually good enough. Really enjoying your channel & well done to your team, especially Caleb for being so honest 👍👍😎

Definitely my favorite 2-wheeler and I have owned HD, BSA, Triumph, Honda and Yamaha over the years. Here’s the funny part. I really can’t give a good reason for my feelings about this bike. Many of the others were faster, some handled better. The HDs were definitely better eye-candy. It was comfortable to ride on long runs and there was just something cool about it. It drew a crowd everywhere I went on it.

    Dude, I had a really similar bike, the BMW R1150 R (the big black naked one) that I bought new just after getting married almost twenty years ago. I kept it for seven years, longer than I've kept any bike, and only sold it because my old company transferred me overseas and wouldn't pay the transport to take the bike over. I wish I'd never sold it, it was a seriously, seriously good bike. It was incredibly comfortable, easy to ride, it had torque in abundance, was supremely well constructed, and it was a whole bunch of fun. I toured all over the South of France and all over Spain with my wife on the back, and enjoyed every minute of it. I tell you what else, it was surprisingly well handling as well. We went all round the twisting Pyrenees mountain roads, and it took it all in its stride. The Phoenix is a really similar package, and proves that being a gorgeously good looking bike is not at loggerheads with good handling and practicality.

    I have this bike and was actually wanting to convert it into a cafe racer. What are your thoughts on this?

  • @jeffreylindenwhite7930

    Rats~ I'm JUST seeing this 3yr-old post.. I'm sure by now that '01 BMW Phoenix has been sold. One thing, SRK, that I wanted to hear you comment on ( but only mentioned ) was how well or badly that small insignificant- looking windshield performed.

      I have mine plugged into a charger and my ABS blinks too.
      Looks like I'm buying a new battery.
      Thank you again.
      Drive safe.
