Well, I think that's all the genius of this film, everything is BOTH badass and ridiculous, it's a very subtle balance. Shahid is a super badass guy AND sounds like a kid when he sees a gun and gets killed without effort. Sardar is a seductor AND has a dad bod. Faizal is the avenger of his whole family AND he can't stop to be awkward in every date with his girl. That's why it is so good, it's not just a parody, it's also a great gangster movie.

Whenever I feel low, I watch this movie.
GOW was the turning point of Indian cinema...that was the point when content driven films started making money and became popular.
It was like Zanjeer moment for Bollywood, because after Zanjeer people started making Angry young man kind of movies.

Oscar's foreign language category is not the right standard to judge non-American films.
I remember during the release time Amitabh Bachchan heavily criticized this film.

@@ranganathan8629 no, it is the American academy awards which happens to have ONE CATEGORY for best international feature film (unofficially foreign language category). All other awards are reserved for movies that have played in a theatre in Los Angeles County for a minimum of 7 consecutive days for at least 3 shows daily and once between 6pm and 10pm. That is literally the eligibility criteria. UK has BAFTA, India has National awards, and I presume other countries have their own versions to celebrate their own movies.

Absolute masterpiece from an Indian Film-maker. Loved every bit of it. I grew up around the same areas where this story happened in Jharkhund. It's too real.
Some things and facts that people don't know?

The thing that I like the most is the way the character speaks, the tone they use is very much similar to the place the story is set i.e, bihar and jharkhand and the character using those rough languages mix up some extra heat which was required and at last coming of faisal khan who usually being high because of ganja makes the film more local

I am from Nepal and grew up watching 90s Bollywood. I was skeptical of this movie and finally watched in 2022. Have been unable to get it out of my brain since, it's extraordinarily amazing. Plus the songs are such a treat.
