I absolutely lost it and bawled my eyes out when I realized the letters were for Ann

I realized the letters were for Anne at the very start and still cried like a baby when it was revealed lol
I absolutely love how the series puts in these little reminders that Violet can't feel through her arms and hands, without walloping you around the head with it. There's a scene in another episode where she seems to be biting the brooch she got from the Major, but you realise it's just because holding it doesn't feel like anything, so she's using her lips instead.
And then here, she points out her hugs aren't as comforting as anyone else's. Such a clever metaphor for her emotional damage.

Same with the first episode, she bites the stuffed puppy's ear because she's not able to feel it with her hands.

Yeah, kyoani are amazing when it comes to the "show, don't tell" style of storytelling

This is by far the hardest episode of any TV show or movie I have ever sat through. I think it's one of the only times I've ever had tears welling up for almost 15 minutes straight and every time you think the worst is over, it hits you again. I actually had to take a break after this episode for a few days lol.
Then the worst bit is that you think watching it again later on it won't have as much impact because you know it's coming and expect it... But it just makes it worse lol.
Yeah. this is the episode that broke me. I can't even watch a reaction to it without loosing it again. It's a hard 1 -2 punch. First Ann getting those letters. It makes me think of my own mother. Then Violet breaking down at the end. Always so emotionless and mechanical, this episode shows how mush she has changed. She is crying, not for herself and the loss of her Major, but for someone else. The empathy she was starting to feel over the lives she took has finally matured. At this point she has become a full person who can recognize her own agency and can as Gilbert wished "live" and "be free".
Pretty sure this is the episode everyone was waiting for.
I feel represented by the crying and the mad laughter of not comprehending how a show could generate these feelings.
I know its heartbreaking, but this reaction was a pure joy to watch.

Every time I see someone tear up over this episode, I end up tearing up myself. I'll never get over watching reactions to come for the final movie, either. Hopefully Dean watches it!
The scene at the very end with Violet gets me more than anything else. She's projecting her own sorrows: she was left all alone in her mansion just like Ann was and watching all of that come to a head through this little girl just kills me

Watching ep 9 and ep 10 back to back??!!! Man! You are braver than the Marines. No joke, there's is a "veterans reaction to VE" video and even ex Marines said " We don't talk about ep 10" 😭 so yep. I personally also watched it all together from ep 7 to 10 and when I finished I was so drained so much crying that I couldn't cry anymore at all until the very end of the show. ..This show is like GOD tier
I re-watched the series about a year after first watching it and figured "I've seen it before, so it shouldn't be a problem, I know when the worst parts are coming to brace myself". My god that was a mistake. I watched Ep 1-10 back to back, but it just gets progressively harder after you hit episode 8 lol.

The first time I’ve watched this episode I’ve broke like never before with any other movie, anime series or even real life situations, I’ve cried before it after family members death or relationship breakups but this one hit me so hard , my eyes flooded, I was trembling, embracing myself in the ground of my room
This episode convinced me I wasn't as cold as I thought I was when I first saw it years ago. Felt better to cry it out.

This episode and episode 7 broke me man. I cried so many times during the whole show. Violet evergarden is a masterpiece and will always be my favorite anime
This show as impacted me in a way no other ever have. I didn't think I even had a heart anymore but.... Violet said hold my beer and proceeded to prove it's existence by crushing it.
I got my fiance to watch Violet with me at some point, a lot of the episodes were sad (of course I cried to most of them xD) but this episode really hit him like a truck LOL

This episode is one of the best plot twist in anime that i have seen, the story telling and all is so perfect, i think many people including me in the middle of episode feel little bit angry to her mom, because she choose to write a letter over her daughter (maybe for her relative so somebody will take care of her), and when they reveal that letter is actually for future Ann...

This episode always hits like a truck.
If you didn't pick up for it, the letter reveal, showing that her mom gave up being with Anne for the remainder of her life so she could be there for the rest of Anne's life, packs the hardest gut punch I have ever felt. This episode remains the only work of art, and I do not use that term loosely, to have ever moved me to tears. Once that time skip montage started I just gave up on holding them back.

This episode broke me, even my cells are crying. I bet the producers and crews cried working on this. I get the voice actors and actresses cried narrating it.
It didn't help that the outro for this episode was a slow song showing scenes of Ana and her mom.
