John J. Marchi served in the NY State Senate from 1957 to 2006 for Staten Island. He was an advocate for Staten Island to secede from NYC and helped draft a law for a referendum, and while this referendum was successful in 1993, the legislature did not approve it. He also helped draft the law to shut down the Fresh Kills landfill, which was at one point in time, the WORLD'S largest landfill! The John J. Marchi boat is part of the Molinari class, and it entered service in May 2005! Each Molinari-class boat carries 4,427 passengers with a crew of 16. The boats are 310 feet long, 70 feet wide, with a draft of 13 feet 10 inches, 2,794 gross tonnage, service speed of 16 knots, and 9,000 horsepower.
Tompkinsville and St. George are the only SIR stations with turnstiles, and turnstiles were added to the Tompkinsville one because passengers had avoided paying the fare by exiting at Tompkinsville and walking a short distance to the St. George Ferry Terminal, so they added turnstiles when a new station house was built in 2010.
Rip r44 trains. You have been good to us. We can't wait for the r211S. R44 you will be missed.
No offense but I can wait for the r211

Yes indeed 😞

I am so down for this Staten Island focused episode set. I feel like we're long overdue for some form of revitalized talks for subway/rail connections from SI to the city and Brooklyn especially as people are craving new spaces to live within the five boroughs. It's crazy that in my lifetime (34) there still hasn't been anything of the sort.
On topic though, I hope you'll have fun on your exploration! Been binging the content and catching up on episodes ever since the flood episode lol
The R211S for the Staten Island Railway will be numbered 100 to 174! The neighborhood Grasmere got its name from the village of the same name in England's Lake District! This name was chosen because the area and adjoining Concord was dotted with lakes and ponds similar to the Lake District village. The name is attributed to Sir Roderick Cameron, an American resident of Canadian descent who was knighted by Queen Victoria. The neighborhood of Clifton got its name from the original Clifton House, a hotel built in the area during the early 19th century. The Clifton House was established by the Vanderbilt family, who were influential figures in the development of Staten Island
The reason the South Beach Branch was shut down is because when the NYC Board of Transportation gained almost complete control of the island’s bus lines in 1948, they cut fares to match the other city lines. The railroad could not match the fare cut and lost 60% of its business almost immediately. The railroad announced plans to terminate all passenger operations in 1953 but a threat from the city to relieve them of their still-profitable freight service along with a commitment for a sizeable city subsidy preserved the Main Line to Tottenville. The South Beach and North Shore branches were agreed to be no longer viable and thus their stations were shut down that same year.
Well good. Now I don't have to make a video about it for you to watch. 😃
I always love to ride the Staten Island ferry whenever I visit New York. It's kind of a staple tradition for me when I visit New York. Eggar's Ice Cream on Forest Ave has some good ice cream.
You should consider taking one of the Verrazano bridge buses such as the S79 or S53 to and from the R train in Bay Ridge
I thought about that but I wanted to hunt for R211S on the way back. Maybe when I go back!
Cool video 😎 311th liked 👍 Thanks for going to the forgotten borough of NYC. I grew up on Staten Island in the 60's to the early 70's The Staten Island Railway used to be call The Staten Island Rapid Transit Railway way back them. Thanks again for posting
Staten Island seems pretty chill, I actually never went to any other place in New York tho.
Woah I’m amazed that you caught R211S for the first time ever
To think that the r211's are already out and that they are in service is truly crazy enough! but spotting one at a yard is even more crazy! Great video my friend!, Never stop doing what you enjoy!
yep
They're in service on the A line but they don't enter revenue service for Staten Island RailRoad until next year.
Thanks for going to my house by taking the S53 and Robin Road is Father Capodanno so Thank you and I saw my Summer School program so we got really suprised😮 But thanks anyway to coming to Staten Island.
Real nice sir train R211s.
Can't wait for the R211S trains
I’m your biggest fan and I watched your videos When I was 4 or 5 years old and I really like your videos.❤🎉
Bit of trivia- Staten Island was the most Northern outpost of the Baltimore &Ohio Railroad! When the electrification was put in the 1900's,[forgot the exact time, apology],the BROOKLYN Rapid Transit was used as the base! So there were modified AB steel cars used on the services! Later, they were absorbed into the MTA,and scrapped at Coney Island! Actually rode on those cars, pity that is now lost! Side note, some of my ancestors founded Tottenville,so I've got some propitory interest in that line! Small 🌎 world!! Thanks for the interesting video! See Al Staufer's book on B&O power,as there is a roster of motive power up until the 1960's! Hope this helps on your research! Thank you 😇 😊!
R211S got shipped to Staten Island last week and would be in service next year
Let's a Go. Staten Island.
Farewell R44s. You were the best on the MTA and Staten Island. But those R211S’s. I don’t want them to get testing yet. But I can’t wait for them to be in service! Well we’ll see you on the garbage signs.

Can you do LIRR ALL BRANCHES IS ONE DAY PLEASE?
Not a bad idea. I think it's been suggested before. LIRR content doesn't do so well on this channel, but a stunt like this might do some numbers.
Wait, you’re walking to the MTA not service train that’s cool😮
LLR44 💔
S-53, not b-53
Staten Island railway
Lol you're right. It's still called Staten Island Railway. I've been calling it the wrong thing all these years. Welp, that changes today.
No matter what, gogosuprtoe will always dislike the SIR and Staten Island
I'm actually kinda warming up to it. Not for what it is, but for its history and what it COULD become.
6:25 S53
I miss these R44's when they used to run on the A-line. The side panels on the sides of the seats are missing on the R46's, a distinguishing feature.
