- Dave2D review of the OnePlus 6T. With a smaller tear-shaped notch and a new in-display fingerprint sensor, the OnePlus 6T feels like a big improvement.

Honestly I am so fucking sick of people saying the removal of the headphone jack is "natural progression," it's bloody not!
Natural progression would be improving wireless technology to the point that wired audio (and the 3.5mm jack) becomes obsolete, and *then* removing it. This is forced progression, where one company aggressively removed the jack to push their rather good wireless headphones, and then every Android manufacturer (except Samsung and LG of all people) couldn't help but stumble over themselves in their stampede to abandon the headphone jack, without developing anything other than a clumsy and inconvenient fucking dongle to replace it!
We love to make fun of Apple fans, calling them sheep and whatnot, but I think the real sheep are most Android phone manufacturers, blindly following Apple and making their devices worse in the process. It's so irritating.
Lol
My opinion as well.
Wow! You sir nailed it.
100% with you there
Also most people who are saying things like "natural progression" are really giving the excuses that these manufacturers need to ditch the jack. Most people will agree that it is a down grade then why are we acting like we're ok with it???
Where can I pre-order the new track?
HELLLOOOO

You should make it your outro

About the notification LED:
A simple software update could bring a good alternative feature, since the 6T does have an AMOLED display it could easily just illuminate a few pixels in the upper right corner of the phone, which would consume hardly any battery life but it would replace the LED.
Actually not a bad idea
Edit: I'm sure an app could be made to do that if the company doesn't pick it up natively
It will effect the longevity of the pixels in that area .. you know burn ins and shit
@@thulfiqar191 They could move it around every few notifications. Maybe between 4-5 pixels.
@@thulfiqar191 well yeah, in the same manner an always on display that shows the clock does too. Do what those clocks do and move around every little bit or whatever
@@thulfiqar191 burn ins happens when an intense use of the pixels in that area, say you increase the brightness of the phone alot, for sure you will have burn in just like my brother's note 8 who always increases brightness over 70 when gaming.

We're living weird times in the mobile industry. As soon as the first smartphone with hidden front cam comes out, all of these notch abominations will become obsolete and laughed at. And honestly, I can't wait for that to happen.
When Apple did the notch, they made it the best they could, with all of the front bezels being symmetrical. Enter Android OEMs: every phone has a notch now, and a chin, and while we're at it, a bigger notch. Look at the Pixel 3XL and tell me that's not the ugliest monstrosity you've ever seen.
couldnt agree more the pixel looks so obsolete by now and even the new iphones, even more when the galaxy s10 comes out

The removal of the headphone jacks from phones the stupidest "innovation" in quite some time.
It's taking up too much space, and space is too valuable in a phone these says. It makes total sense why it's getting removed. It's an engineering choice.
OneGoogleUser if that's the case why have almost all android oems copy apple?
It's obvious the removal is to pave the way for the future of wireless. Buy a Bluetooth adapter to make your wired headphones wireless.

Btw, hey Dave your video was on the Google news.
Dave- i love your minimalist setup in your room !!
4:30 NO. THIS IS NOT INEVITABLE. Just because Apple did so and that Apple may have used that space for the better or not, doesn't mean it is inevitable. Was the lose of the headphone jack a major reason why the space needed for that 3700Mah battery was there and would replacing it with a 3500Mah one while retaining the jack be infeasible? Is Oneplus now adopting Samsung's edge curved glass and putting it on the bottom edge and the port is getting in the way? Is the jack inpeding with the in-glass fingerprint sensor in anyway? Is the phone now so thin you actually cannot fit the jack in, as is the case for USB-A for some very thin ultraportables? Is there anything a phone with an audio jack cannot do a phone of similar specifications and dimensions can? If any of the above was true, sure. Go for it. What Oneplus has done here is just a stupid move.
Was the lose of a widely adopted analog wired standard that is highly universal for an alternatives that aren't nearly as universally compatible, as performant and as durable worth it? No. I don't even need to detail how USB-C audio is botched up by the android phone makers, they're beating the dead horse's organs with its bones right now. Wireless has always been an alternative due to the high cost for internal component, constrains of a battery and limits of bluetooth audio itself.
Anyway, other than this triggering bit, good video as always.
Ok, think it through for a sec. Its inevitable BECAUSE Apple did it. Honestly, these Chinese spend so little on R and D they kinda just look at what works. Recently they've had more money put into R and D of course, but still not even a fraction of Apple's. And when a company looks to what works in a business environment, they don't look at what is popular or what the public LIKES, they look at what makes money, and phones with no headphones jacks now take up way more of the market from the ones that don't. This is why it is actually inevitable for phones to not have headphone jacks in the future. sorry to break it to you man lol...(also it saves like a few pennies off of the cost of making the product and when ur making millions of thme, that does add up..yayyy capitalism -_-)
Chill dude, take a breath
finally found someone as triggered as myself!! no headphone jack means 🤮🤮🤮
The headphone jack is a pretty old technology so it has to go at some point to be replaced with something new, in this case it would be wireless headphones and it's OK to not want that to happen, almost everyone is used to the headphone jack but its for the better , just like people didn't use to like the idea of cd's over cassettes or another example in the present world would be cloud storage vs physical storage.
Max Ayala you mixed everything!
What the heck with that gnarly ass spider dude?
Had the video playing on full screen on 4k glory and I almost shat myself when it popped up.
you make the most fun tech videos on youtube keep up the great work👍
Dave thanks for pointing out the removal of the notification LED, you're the fist in about a dozen unboxing and early impressions videos I've watched prior to actually mention this. Since I'm 99.9% Bluetooth, I don't mind removal of the headphone jack, but i use the LED on my OP5T (and 3 before it, and about a dozen BlackBerry phones in the past) constantly. This is a real bummer for me.
So they reduced the notch, but they removed the headphone jack. WHY?!? Is there any secret law that forbid to do 2 right thing alltogether?!? What the heck, guys...
TBF, one has nothing to do with the other. As Mr Mobile explained, OnePlus stated that they eliminated the headphone jack to make room for the in-display FP scanner and a bigger battery.
It will be interesting to see JerryRig's teardown of the OP 6T. I know I will not be happy with OP if it shows that there *was* indeed adequate room to squeeze in a headphone jack if they tried a lil harder.
@jesus barrera Agreed, the technology clearly isn't quite 💯% there as yet. We'll see how it's implemented in the Galaxy S10 in the Spring.
I believe OnePlus should've increased the battery size but left the FP scanner on the back until under-screen is perfected. And they def should've left the headphone jack !
New wireless headphones 🎧 around the corner 😂😂😂
I’d much rather have the back fingerprint sensor, a larger notch, and a headphone jack.
Biggest reason that this has happened is that Oneplus phones are pretty much direct copies of OPPO's phones which have the same mothercompany so to speak. The OPPO model this time around has an in display fingerprint scanner and a teardrop notch so the Oneplus also has it. Plus now they have a shitty reason to make more sales of off their earbuds which no-one should buy tbh. Oneplus does this every year tho, they copy Oppo and slightly tweak where the camera is positioned for example. They're just being lazy in my opinion which kinda tackles the whole 'Never Settle' thing.
Just wait for SURFACE PHONE

All in all. It's like a 2 steps forward and 1 step back. I mean the under the screen finger scanner is noticeably slower, no increase in camera performance, more screen to body ratio( notch destroyer) but lastly no headphone jack. The one that kills for me is the headphone jack removal. Since they clearly did it to promote and sell their new Bluetooth bullet earphones. So it is more like we need more money than it is the right step for the future of OnePlus and it's fanbase.
the 3.5mm dongle is included in the box. So its up to you if you want to buy a new earphones.
I think the next Oneplus 7 will have improvements in Quality instead of quantity.improvents in Camera, battery life,Fingerprint scanner, build Quality, etc.
It may come with 5G capability, as hint given by Qualcomm..that will be interesting :)
They should keep this design in next OP 7 as well.Only the Screen size should be 6.3"....the 6.4" size seems too big.Otherwise its seems a great phone.
If they put 700mah and removed headphonr jack its step foward idk for you but i dont use headphones that often but i always use battery
All is fair since like you all have yours own preference. Be it the increase battery, or the nicely included dongle and etc. You cannot deny the simple fact. It is additional item to carry, additional device to buy, another device charge and keep track. And the worst thing is that they charged you for it. Sure, many will say just get a cheap bluebooth headphone or earphones. Then it would in turn provide horrible experience for audiophiles. So I respect your opinions as it is good to see improvement in OnePlus.
@@alan2142 i think if u have 3.5 mm headphones and adapter u can simply plut adapter im headphones and use them as that u dont need to carry them seperate

Still perfectly happy with my standard OnePlus 6 - I don't think the loss of the headphone jack is worth it to be honest. Even though I use Bose QC35's most of the time, sometimes I prefer to use my wired earbuds, and having an integrated headphone jack rather than a dongle is miles better to me. Plus, for some reason I dislike the smaller notch, I guess i've just grown used to the notch on mine. The in-screen fingerprint sensor is cool though.
With or without the headphone jack, it's not a big enough upgrade from the 6 (The T models usually aren't worth upgrading from the same version number). If you had 5 or below, then the differences would be worth the upgrade.
Sorry sir but if you really disliked the smaller notch you clearly belong in a mental hospital therefore everything you that you stated in this and your opinions are invalid I'm sorry that's just how it is.

Totally agree with you.

it kinda needs to hold the cam and proximity sensors so like...its either that or having the area around the notch cut off too and then u just have a forehead there (thing ones are aight but a thin notch is even better in my opinion, still more screen space in general. You can also just turn that off completely (oled capabilities and whatnot), but I like having some of my status bar up there cause it saves space on my actual phone I guess. Also pure bezeless stuff like the oppo X and stuff is cool and all but mechanical parts = not very long term so honestly the notch is the way to go rn..
