Music video by George Harrison performing Faster. (C) 2004 Umlaut Corporation, under exclusive licence to Calderstone Productions Limited, a division of Universal Music Group
Another criminally underrated gem of a song by George Harrison.
When I was a teenager, I really liked "Faster", because as an introspective kid I could appreciate the song as George's metaphor for his own life. Despite all the fame he'd achieved ("chose a life in circuses"), people didn't understand that his goal was still all about self-improvement ("pulled out some poor machinery, worked til the pieces fit"), but that was okay.
... years later, I learned the song was literally about how George Harrison liked watching car races.
It was Actually about Gunnar Nilsson. and dedicated to him. after his death in 1978.
Not gonna lie he had us in the first half
High school English classes in a nutshell
I made the same assumption as you, when I first heard this song. Kind of a bathetic trajectory, huh?
Multiple layers of meaning, that's what art can do :)
Rest in peace all the racing drivers who we lost in that terribly dangerous era.
indeed!
lets have that era back though i want to see a real race with high stakes and cooler cars
The song is a commemoration of Ronnie Petersson, who died 1978, and raised money for cancer research fund initiated by Gunnar Nilsson the same year.
My man, could write a song about brushing your teeth and I'd love it.
He wrote “awaiting on you all” while brushing his teeth actually 😂
@@thatweirdbeatlesgirl8285 NO KIDDING!!! Omg really? haha I love this man!
I guess he was mentioning about Savoy Truffle from the White Album
@@ViniciusFiocco Yes you'll have to have them all pulled out
After the Savoy truffle.
Great song about lawsuits too.
"Sue me ,sue you"
George was a regular visitor to the British Grand Prix. He gave a lot of support to Damon Hill when he became World Champion in 1996. In an interview not long after George's death Damon spoke very highly of him
Love how they look alike and theyre both Brits
George was a Motor Man. That love of cars was one of many interests. The first Beatle to have a licence and fair driver himself in race cars and a Great Friend of Sir Jackies. RIP George Harrison MBE.🌹🕊
Apparently Harrison lent Hill money to start his racing career.
No wonder Damon was a close friend.
George Harrison wrote this song in tribute to his love of Formula One Grand Prix car racing. He was at many of them where this song was played on the P.A. just before the command to start engines. I saw all this first hand at the Long Beach Grand Prix held on the downtown streets there. If you look closely in the video, where he's riding in the back seat playing a guitar, they pan to the chauffeur who is driving. It's three-time champion of the world Jackie Stewart.
I thought the driver looked Familiar in the video
I believe The song was written and dedicated to Ronnie Petersen who lost His life on The track.
Lyrics:
Chose a life in circuses
Jumped into the deepest end
Pushing himself to all extremes
Made it - people became his friend.
Now they stood and noticed him
Wanted to be part of it
Pulled out some poor machinery
So he worked 'til the pieces fit.
The people were intrigued
His wife held back her fears
The headlines gave acclaim
He'd realized their dreams.
Faster than a bullet from a gun
He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash, you could miss him going by.
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true, they say
He's the master of going faster.
Now he moved into the space
That the special people share
Right on the edge of do or die
Where there is nothing left to spare.
Still the crowds came pouring in
Some had hoped to see him fail
Filling their hearts with jealousies
Crazy people with love so frail.
The people were intrigued
His wife held back her fears
The headlines gave acclaim
He'd realized their dreams.
Faster than a bullet from a gun
He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash, you could miss him going by.
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true, they say
He's the master of going faster.
No need to wonder why
His wife held back her fears
So few have even tried
To realize their dreams.
Faster than a bullet from a gun
He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash, you could miss him going by.
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true, they say
He's the master of going faster.
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true, they say
He's the master of going faster.
Thanks for the lyrics
And in case you didn’t know, Here Come’s the Sun is the lead single from the number one album in the world, right now in 2019.
Love it. Every time I see a sunrise, i hear and sing it.
Also fun to know that Something by George is the only Beatles song that Sinatra ever sang.
zdave 608 you are totally correct. In fact Sinatra called it the greatest love song ever written. Not bad for a kid from Liverpool
@@haroldhatley4275 I read somewhere that Here comes the Sun is the most requested Beatles song of all time. That's gotta stick in Paul's craw. Heh heh ...
Which album?
0:09 the legendary François Cevert, the Jackie Stewart's ward and a very talented and charismatic driver, He had everything to be an outstanding champion, I hope in the heaven he has made that dream come true.
George never got enough credit for being a great writer and singer deserved more credit from the other beatles
Agree ! We also forget George Harrison wrote The Beatles ( The Quarrymen) song "In Spite of All The Danger" with Paul McCartney in 1958. Paul McCartney plays this song at his current concerts. Then in 1960 the Harrison - Lennon composition "Cry For A Shadow". Already a writing talent in his teenage years !.
@@Bruce15485 That's not James Paul McCartney. We know it.
I hear this song for the first time when Ayrton Senna died the and the TV station play this on his funeral coverage in Brazil. Touching.
"He's a master of going faster." Haha. I love it.
* AGGRESSIVE COUGH * uh yea-
Harrison was the best of the beatles.
The man driving Harrison around is Jackie Stewart, 3-time Formula One World Champion.
That's "SIR" Jackie Stewart
And I like the plaid stripe on his hat like he had on his helmet.
The Great Sir Jackie Stewart!
And he is, of course, the subject of this song.
Harrison dedicated the song in his album credits to "the Entire Formula One Circus" and to the memory of Ronnie Peterson, who had died in a crash at the 1978 Italian Grand Prix.
One of my all time favorite George Harrison songs. Harrison dedicated "Faster" to "the Entire Formula One Circus" and to the memory of Ronnie Peterson.
For all the F1 heroes, from Fangio to Schumacher!!!
This song was written like a homage to Juan Manuel Fangio, the gratest F1 diver of all time
George was a well rounded person. His life changed the world for the better.
Love him to this day. Most of m th life.
If only he would have quit smoking. Poor guy 😢😭
Did you know him?
beautifully said.
451+1 well he was no lutheran ? ^ ^
Dedicated to the memory of Ronnie Peterson, who died following a crash in the italian grand prix 1978.

George Harrison is so sweet.
George's loved his cars just like I did
Everyone needs a friend like George!
This should be oficialized as the "Formula 1 Anthem"
all George's solo songs makes me wanna dance with nature.. his songs literally sound like enjoy life and good vibes and wind dancing the trees..does that make any sense???
In a way it makes sense
It does. George's songs connect me to him uniquely. Its the vibes
Exactlyy and i feel like i know him for all of my life but I'm only 14!!
I get what you mean, but really he was just so damn good at making guitar solos.
Yeah, so go dance with a wild lion.
When you love F1 and you love The Beatles and George of course, I cannot believe that someone in the past had the same tastes as me, I mean that it makes me very crazy and incredible that my two great inspirations and passions are the beatles and F1, and this song has both, george harrison and F1.
Love you George ❤️
Yeah, it's wonderful. RIP George
so true
The more I learn about George Harrison and his wide range of music the better this Earth becomes! My whole life has changed thanks to the one and only, George Harrison! Thank you George, you beautiful human being! ❤️
Senna was The Master of Going Faster.
Of course bro , here in Argentina we love Ayrton
@@MadeInHeavenOk Oh, so good to know that. Senna was the fastest pilot indeed. But, Piquet was a much better pilot than Senna (in my opinion).
@@BrazukaSul Piquet may have been good in his time, but Ayrton was always more clever, for example when it rained he did it in a way that was almost like a dance.
@@MadeInHeavenOk Senna, Fangio, Clark and Piquet were the top 4 of all times. Hey, come to visit Brazil someday. Sun always shines brighter here.

George was an underrated master!!
because he was quiet and introverted. extroverted and talkative ones are usually overrated.
not as far as i
Are you off your nut? He was and is well loved and lauded.
I love George more than most humans, but how in the actual fuck is a BEATLE "underrated"?
Lmaoooooo For the love of god, people... please stop using that word.
C'muon - we all still rate him highly.
The driver who sticks the most to the text of this song is undoubtedly Gilles Villeneuve, vice-world champion of 79. Of all the drivers hired by Enzo Ferrari, he was his favorite.
Gilles was highly revered by both fans and fellow drivers for his extraordinary talent and bravery on the track. His determination made him one of the most popular Formula One drivers in history.
"Villeneuve had the best talent of all of us. Whatever car that you put him in he would have been quick." Niki Lauda
George Harrison did what many people cannot. George walked the walk that he talked. What an amazing spirit he is!
Except for when he was doing mountains of cocaine and screwing around on his wife. Don’t get me wrong, I like George’s music, but he was no saint. And certainly didn’t walk it liked he talked it.
I don't remember him ever presenting himself as a saint. That's the problem. That's what the commenter means. George walked the walk. You don't tell people to give peace a chance if you don't do it yourself. You don't tell people the love you make is equal to the love you take if you're telling members of your band their songs are no good and they can't play their instruments. These are two people who talk the talk, but do not walk the walk.
George Harrison never ripped Eric Clapton to pieces in song. He had right to, no matter if he cheated on Pattie or not. That's one of his best friends. Ringo Starr never ripped George Harrison to pieces for cheating with Maureen. But even Maureen would tell you that was not a physical affair. It was emotional at best, and her marriage with Ringo was really over. And I think in 1974, George Harrison wanted NOTHING to do with any other Beatles, even Ringo, once that Apple got thrown out. You can see how happy he is to finally sign those papers. And after that Ringo appears less on Harrison albums. He even sues the guy. George sue Ringo???? What???? George took a black eye for Ringo!
Harrison, and this is only a theory, wants to get so far away from the other 3, but specifically John and Paul, that he'll do anything to do it. And drugs don't help make the best choices. But he never told the audience he made all the right ones did he. He never once sits there and tells his audience "I've got God, I'm better than you, you don't know anything." Not once. So the tag he gets as a preacher is just nonsense. Half the time he sits there saying he fucks it up too, but he still believes in God. Whether that be Krishna, Christ, Buddha. Whatever THAT is, that transcends the Bible or texts or reality. Whatever THAT is, he believes in it. Even when he fucks up.
THAT'S walking the walk. He did not present himself as a Holy Man. He presented himself as a man on a journey seeking the Holy. The Divine. And if you wanted to join him on that journey, you could. And if you didn't, you didn't have to. You had all the old Beatles songs, you can still enjoy them. He had moved on. And he was in a band where two people just did not SEE him. They still viewed him as a teenager in school, long into their adult lives. And that's just messed up. You still treat someone like they're a grade behind you when you're in your 30's and 40's? The dude is only 8 months younger than McCartney. I got friends who are 8 months older than me, and somehow this has never come up in the decades I've known them. Nor do they look down on me because I'm 8 months younger than them. When you're 13 or 16, that shit can matter.
THEN YOU GROW UP. @@stormbringercoming8105

People don't realise how uniquely original this song is: He really was a dark horse. Imagine he was allowed to write more songs in the Beatles. Harrison Had the best solo career.
He wrote them, it was that Martin assh0le that vetoed them out of albums
This song is so perfect, it's like a painting...the melody, the lyrics, the orchestration, the acoustic and slide guitars, and of course George's sublime vocals, all complementing each other. Like so much of George's other work, understated and powerful at the same time.
Well said, its a really well structured and melodic song. A strong track from his self titled album.
Seriously? It's an awful song. The music is fine, but the lyrics are ridiculous and squashed into the melody.
Not bad when your chauffeur is Jackie Stewart..🏁
My brother met George during a Long Beach Grand Prix in garage area, & George bummed a cigarette from him, a rare meeting indeed🏁
I had never heard of this song until just now! Now I have a brand new favorite George Harrison song! ❤️❤️❤️

George Harrison's 1970's videos were the absolute best, a predictor of the MTV era. And that's on top of everything else he did. :)
Harrison made a promotional film for the single, which includes footage he had shot at the Brazilian Grand Prix in São Paulo in February 1979.

Ele era o melhor dos beatles, compunha menos musicas, aparecia menos, não tinha tanto ego mas suas musicas eram as melhores do grupo.
