Where the majority of JBLâs newer speakers have subtle differences underneath the hood like the JBL Flip 4 to the JBL Flip 5⊠The JBL Pulse 4 is completely different from the JBL Pulse 3 in almost every way. The JBL Pulse 4 looks completely different and has a completely different speakers set up compared to the JBL Pulse 3. Over all yes the JBL Pulse 4 does out perform the Pulse 3, but I donât think you have to run out and upgrade if you already have the Pulse 3.

Pulse 4 has a more balanced sound than Pulse 3.
I'll stick to my Pulse 3's which I can pair to my JBL Boombox. Seems they keep reinventing their pairing systems with no backwards compatibility. That and eliminating features like the speakerphone, etc.. I can't think of any reason I'd want to buy one myself.

I'm still waiting for them to add more lighting options for the Pulse 3.. I thought they were going to add more lighting options to that through software updates when I bought it 2 years ago.

I have a pulse 3 and I've had under under lake water for almost more than 10 minutes and still it works like it's brand new...
I think the JBL Pulse 4 lights is not fully glow to the top of the speaker, I saw video people open their pulse 3 and pulse 4, the length of the led strip of both if these are nearly the same, but pulse 4 is shorter and it has plastic thing that absorb some light at the top to make it glow a little bit to the top, maybe pulse 5 can fix that by using some mirror reflecting system to maintain the full glowing effect of the entire pulse body, nice review, still thinking to get either one of these, lights or sound,,,,, personally an audiophile and a violinist, also got a xtreme 1 and xb30.
Clear music is important regardless of the source of audio, I cannot tolerate muddy sound in anything. The pulse 3 is insanely guilty of muddy notes. I dunno how the pulse 4 stacks against even a charge 3, but personally I quite like the charge series>pulse.
It surprises me the the pulse 4 matches the pulse 3 in sound quality considering it has 3 less speakers.
The newest update for the Pulse 4 upgrades the Bluetooth to 5.1 and has better music/light synchronisation
Itâs still using Bluetooth 4.2??? I was under the impression that partyboost was 5.0 at least.

Exactly! Their Boombox is my favorite product of theirs. While I like the Pulse 4 more than the Pulse 3, I want to be able to connect with my Boombox. So I'm waiting for the next gen Boombox with PartyBoost.

Regarding sound...It's very subjective. As an older person with failing high end perception( ears don't work above 12Khz,) I prefer more treble else the bass can appear overpowering. Walk around the audio shops in the mall and you will see that the sort of equipment aimed at the younger listener seems to be equipped with over the top bass speakers whereas the expensive stuff aimed at the older listener is biased towards the high frequency end. I'm sure the manufacturers realize this.
I still preffer the pulse 2 tbh... it sounds pretty good, although the 4 might be better, but the pulse 2 is really sturdy. Mine was dropped, kicked, and everything you can imagine and it still works perfectly
9:17 when you said the pulse 4 doesnât have an audio jack like the Flip 5, i realized i bought it yesterday and analyzed it; the Flip 5 doesnât have an audio jack either... :/

I know that it says that you can shake the Pulse 4 to sync your light show with one or many pulse 4s, but will they actually sync up completely or will it just go to the same mode as if you scrolled through with the light mode button until you got on the same mode as the original Pulse that you are trying to connect to? For instance, if you were to put 2 or 4 of them right next to each other and you synced the light show, would it actually look like one blob of light going up and down or would the light go up and down at slightly different moments between the connected pulse 4s? Hopefully this question makes sense.

I had the exact same problem involving water, when I first bought the Sony XB31; it blew my mind when I heard it playing, the sound quality, the app, live sound mode..!
But I got disappointed when I had this problem and tried to reach Sony's customer service and had no answer at all. Long story short, I had to return it to the Walmart where I bought it and instead of getting another XB31, I got a Charge 3 for 90 bucks right before they started to sell the Charge 4.
tbh the charge 3 is better, also do you like the sound from the charge 3?

This is annoying because all over the place⊠even now on jbl's website this thing is listed at $249. Also the website must have been updated because I find no listing whatsoever of an audio jack other than complaints about not being able to find it. People are also saying the internals are not that much different from the pulse 3 so I appreciate your review.
1 Information you can pair the Pulse 3 4 and flip 4 5 and boombox 1 2 but all with connect + and partyboost seperatly you need a Phone that Uses bluetooth 5.0 or dual audio
It's a crime how few light modes the Pulse series offers. They didn't even try to do anything remotely cool. I have the Pulse 3, and I don't think it sounds that good.

the jbl pulse 3 comes at a better lower price now.... it also comes with a microphone so it can accept commands /calls as well ...no Bluetooth 5 here on the pulse 4 that is bummer......

Dear JBL I just bought 2 Pulse 4 speakers and was very excited to fire them up and use. The sound was great. The lights are great but now the bad news... the app. Itâs awful. Nothing works properly on it and it drops out on Android (and iPhone) awfully. So I rushed to the store to download it again and it was there that I saw the reviews. OMG! Is all I can say. Hundreds and hundreds if not thousands of negative reviews. All citing the same problems going back years. So, my question is, why donât you fix it. You are killing a terrific product with this awful awful app. Whatâs your response? Whatâs being done? Any reviewer who doesnât mention this is being paid by JBL and not doing their job. Itâs no surprise that comments are turned off on JBL channel.

Not going to lie man, you're better off with the Pulse 3, the Pulse 4 does have better mids, but since you plan on buying 10 Pulse 3 and with their 360 degree sound you're better off with those speakers which provide a more Surround sound experience compared to the front firing speaker of the Pulse 4. And Pulse 3 would be cheaper in the end for basically the same experience or even better experience for less
