  • I love my Mackie CRX series studio monitors. For the price they get the job done beautifully. I also love doing my own repairs when I can. This upload is part rant and part tutorial on how to open your Mackie CRX series studio monitors if you want to service them yourself. I couldn't find any information online on how to do this so I hope that some may find it helpful!

    Great video!
    A little tip for getting any bezel off is to use a plastic pry tool set and if its also glued on then use some IPA to disolve the glue first. The plastic pry tools are usually made from plastic that is a bit softer than the bezel so the pry tool will have damage marks on it and not the bezel :)

    Hey man thanks for this video, really helped me with a lose wire inside my passive CRX-3, thought I was gonna have to replace the speaker, but thanks to your video, I managed to gently pry off the front (glad you covered the "cracking" sound lol), got it open, and the wire had popped off the terminal, simple fix, saved me cold hard cash, so thanks again🙂👌👍

    1:55 At least on the CR3, you don't need to remove those two screws in the middle to get the back off. Only the wood screws around the edge. (Those two larger fasteners in the middle are bolts holding the transformer on to the board.)

    Thank you very much for this, video liked! I was also trying to figure out how to remove the bezle without breaking something as there are no visible screws holding it place like in the powerd speaker. I also got a response from Mackie's technical support once about the bezel, but just by looking at the cover piece on the website, I couldn't figure out how it's mounted onto the speaker's housing. Too bad they haven't provided a nicer way of removing those covers without damaging anything. But like many manufacturers today, I guess they only want you to buy and replace the entire unit rather than be able to repair it.
    I repaired my powered Mackie CR4 speaker's "No Sound" problem by implementing a standalone +/-12V regulation module, which would probably make Mackie angry with me because now the electronics PCB will probably last for many years to come instead of burning itself to death due to excessive heat.

      i think i need to replace the switch for the speaker orientation next as it is cutting in and out... glad you had success!

    • @VolfMark
      @VolfMark Před 2 lety +1

      @@DJRY360 Replacing the switch is a pain because it is very difficult to reach and remove. You may not need to replace it. I fixed that issue with contact spray (plastic compatible). I moved the switch handle to the side so it slightly separates from its bottom plate. Then I applied a small amount of spray through that gap so that it could reach the internal sliding contacts. I then moved the switch from one position to the other a couple of times and repeated the process. The switch hasn't been causing any problems since. You can give it a go, it should work.
      You might also deal with the internal 12V regulation circuit. I fixed my CR4s, which I bought back in 2016, with a solution of my own for that and they have lasted great since then. The original 12V regulation circuitry causes a lot of heat, which burns the PCB over time and damages the surrounding components (and the L/R switch is close to that circuitry). ;-)
      I don't think Mackie would appreciate my fix becasue now the PCB will probably last for years to come. 😀

    Yes, thank goodness for your video. My main speaker works but the passive not working. So indeed needed to get into it to check the wiring. How silly not making it easy to get into GRRRRRR. Thank you

      we're all greatful for the vid, but Mackie not making it 'Easy' is their way of getting us to spend more money, like a lot of audio/tech firms nowadays 🤔🤔

      It doesn't affect the sound so it doest bother me. You can probably find specialized plastic tools instead of a screwdriver if you want to be more careful than me. I had already resolved myself to the fact that I was gonna have to break it anyways.

    Quick question, if you can help please, did you get any info when you received your tweeter, I'm having a similar problem with CR8-X, I cant get any help from Mackie and am left to source a tweeter myself, there are no part numbers or information on the tweeter I took out such as ohms or wattage, do you have any idea?

    • @DJRY360
      @DJRY360  Před 10 měsíci

      the tweeter PN is DB-2044534 XDCR DRIVER (0.75in/19mm SILK DOME TWEETER ) - CR3, CR4
      If you email the service department at ADIPRO they are really helpful actually.. they are a distributor.

    Inside of box has 4 screws that holds the baffle on to the front

    • @DJRY360
      @DJRY360  Před 2 lety

      only on the active speaker, the baffle is just pressure mounted with pegs on the passive one. it is a single "sealed" unit.
