It amazing how similar the Snurfer design is to the ancient Lazboard!
In case you’re arent familiar, the Laz people of Turkey have been snow surfing for centuries as a form of winter transportation and fun.
In their version, they stand over the tail of a longer, wider board while holding onto a rope tied to the nose and drag a long pole for balance. Apparently these mountain people have at least a 600 year history of snow surfing!

Well now, first time I've seen this, pretty cool. In 1967, I cut the rope off my Snurfer after my 2nd run, because with it attached, it was a silly toy, but without, it was so cool and fun that I've been ruined ever since. I didn't know anyone else ever rode one like that too. I only rode in powder and liked to make nice round S-turns and surf cutbacks. I spent so much time trying to figure improvements to it over the years, and actually had worked out something, but only in my mind unfortunately, and sure enough, that's how they ended up turning out after much smarter folks than me were able to make them. Happy to see that you knew how it was supposed to be ridden.
I was a California Surfer as a kid and when i found my first Snurfer I never thought of holding the rope. I thought it was to pull it back up the hill. Sherm's first board did not have a rope and there is a home movie with his daughter Snurfing without the rope. I still have my Snurfers from back then and the one I rode in the LaBatts commercial is in the museum in Vail. Love your Snurf story - Snurfs Up :) The new guys that own Snurfer I am very excited about and think they will honor the old brand.
