Anathema has some of the best music I've ever heard!! Their music has been exactly what I've been searching for..love this beautiful band...their cd's are a mainstay in my cd changer in my car and in my house! I've turned many people on to the band as well. When I have company over everyone always says "who is this?" I'm like, I know, they're amazing! Thanks guys and thanks for upldg for the fans!
Dear Petra, I don't think he is denying his past, but means "metal" not in context of their music, but as an attitude or life-style, aka "metalheads". He described his own attitude at that time as "we were hippies, really", listening a lot to the Beatles and Dire Straits. In photos of the band of the early '90s you see Danny in tie-dye-shirt amid trees and grass and flowers. I hope this helps you to not feeling betrayed. His music changed because his outlook on life did, that's all.
