    • @TheCleverSamurai
      @TheCleverSamurai Před 2 lety

      @Risky Ron not true, most of them are state or federal firefighters. Inmate crews are state operated by the state. There are vollies out here yes. Contractors yes. Haven't seen one crew from out of the US. Think about it, why would our federal government pay for someone to come from another country when there are thousands of resources available between our geographical area command centers here.

    • @TheCleverSamurai
      @TheCleverSamurai Před 2 lety

      @Risky Ron BTW most of us are trained, have proper equipment, but appreciation not much there. All the equipment on any Engine or crew is in working condition. If not you aren't in compliance with regulations for being line ready. That means boots, nomex, hard hat, gloves, eye protection, hand tools, packs, fire shelters, chainsaws, firing equipment, pump for fire engine, replacement parts, radios, and so much more. A lot of moving parts. 2 credit cards to pay for food, lodging, gas, perhaps the tire shop, more spare parts and sometimes personal stuff for the crew, whatever is needed. So no, just stop. We aren't under prepared or under trained or under skilled. We make a living of going where no one wants to be. The way that poor gentleman got burned from radiant heat on his face, we thrive on that. When civilians are scared half to death, we come in with a smile on our face trying to give peace of mind to these communities, doing all in our power to keep a strangers home standing.

    Timber sawed down should be gathered in long stripped areas. These areas should be wide enough so they can help stop forest fires from spreading and it would leave firefighters room enough to enter the stripped areas to fight the fires more easily. For the most part, timber should be cut down in the mountains that are closer to towns. I know that this would look strange but it could be very helpful to save people's homes and lives. It's like having a strategic war against forest fires. Most timber is selected individually to be cut down. That is ok as long as they cut the stripped areas out as well to prevent the spread of fires. When will they ever learn?

    Dr Bill Wattenberg, Physics Professor, was a Sunday night KGO-Radio talk-show host who grew up in the Sierras, the son of a logger. I would have loved to hear what Dr Bill has to say about these fires.
    As a kid back in the 1950s and 1960s, I can’t remember such catastrophic fires happening on such a regular basis.
    I’m 70 now. I grew up on San Francisco. Going “over the hill” Lon weekends meant we were going too Tahoe. Lots and lots of treees. Logging business was alive and well. Fires happened but they were put out. We weren’t talking about them for weeks and months.
    KGG-Radio is nearly defunct. Dr Wattenberg passed away five years ago.
    If I had him on the other end of the phone I’d love to ask him:
    “Is ecology killing all our trees? What was lifelike when your Dad was logging and you were living in your log cabin with no electricity?”
    I’d love to hear that resonant voice of his speak directly to this epic tragedy in lour beloved California.

    Key word "explosive" fire, not a normal fire. Yes, may be perfect natural conditions for fire, but these fires are not normal in any way...normal fires rarely explode, burn with 2500 degrees, torch certain homes in patterns that defy normal fire behavior, and spread exponentially.

      @Jonny Moon The nature and behavior of a fire caused by climate change would not spread explosively and with abnormally induced heat that has nothing to do with the temperatures, air quality, and tinder available.. Climate change perpetuates the elements needed for fire, but nothing about "climate change" IGNITES fires in this way. That is like saying "it is now a lot colder, and the ecosystem has changed, so icebergs are going to appear out of nowhere and fill every waterway." We can study climate change and assign blame all we want, but there are OTHER forces at work here to consider.
