Tell me something: he wants him to tell him something
There's no antidote for this curse: The curse is death and everyone dies at some point so there's no antidote for it
Must this hurt before you go: Does it have to hurt you/us before you go cause he has cancer so everyone was hoping that he could recover
There's no water inside this swimming pool: His eyes are the swimming pool and there's no water left in his eyes because he cried so much
I've been praying ever since New York: He was praying that he recovers but he never did

Hi! “Choose your words cause there’s no antidote” is about that you should make every word count and would be satisfied with the last thing you said”. “There is no water inside this swimming pool” is about crying. Crying a lot that you have no tears left to cry. “Understand I’m talking to the walls” is about praying to God, to ask him to help with current problems and when you pray you realize that you are sitting or laying in your room and saying prayers to the walls... You know until this I didn’t realize how meaningful this song is!! Beautiful song...

“Ever Since New York” (2017), a musical meditation on loss and longing, finds Harry Edward Styles lamenting his inability to move forward with a woman he cares deeply about.
“And I’ve been praying, I never did before
Understand I’m talking to the walls
I’ve been praying ever since New York”
If you pay close attention, you will notice similarities between this tune’s guitar 🎸 riff and the one from rock band Badfinger’s “Baby Blue” (1971). 💙🎶💙

@@carriewhitee There is no need to be aggressive, I would never allow myself to call someone who doesn't share my opinion "disrespectful", but I see you don't have these scrupules. Anyway, for "Ever since New-York" there are 2 hypothesis, and we can discuss these hypothesis without drama, in a rational and even friendly way.
There is the first hypothesis : the song would be related at a very hard moment in N-Y when Harry was told that his stepdad was seriously ill and probably incurable. And the second hypothesis is that in N-Y Louis would have broken up with Harry, who was devastated and the song would be related to this time. Let 's see the arguments in both cases:
      1. In the first case, we can say that Harry was very fond of his stepdad who always supported him and loved him, and this terrible new, without any doubt, has affected him a lot. And if I look at the lyrics I see 2 or 3 verses which could be logically related to this kind of situation (for example: "And I've been praying, I never did before")
      2. In the second hypothesis, we can give other arguments:
      - First Harry never wrote a song about members of his family, neither before nor after this song, he seems very private in this area. In comparison, if you know a bit his relationship with Louis, you know that almost all Harry's song are related to him. (He said in "Falling" : I'm well aware that I write too many songs about you"). In an interview he also said that in his opinion, every song (or every book for a writer) is always written for an unique person, as a personal message for this person.
      - Also we know that Harry was very sad at that time because the songs (in his first album) are almost all very sad, and speak of break-up, loneliness, suffering, jealousy, difficulties to comunicate with the person he loves, emotional addiction, despair ...
      - Now if you look at the lyrics, you can see that many verses perfectly match with the other songs in the same period: same words, same state of mind, same questions and same sorrow.
      a) For example: the difficulty to comunicate: "tell me something I don't already know" / " Understand I'm talking to the walls" [And in Sign of the time: "We don't talk enough, we should open up" / In "Meet me in the Hallway": "We don't talk about it, it's something we don't do"/ In "Two ghosts": "Tongue-tied like we've never known/Telling those stories we ALREADY TOLD" (exactly like "Tell me something I don't ALREADY KNOW" in EVER SINCE NEW-YORK), in "From the dining table": "Comfortable silence is so overrated/ Why won't you ever say what you want to say? / In "FALLING": "And it kills me 'cause I know we've run out of things we can say" ... etc ...
      b) The suffering, the need, the despair:
"And I've been praying, I never did before ". There are so many verses in the other songs which match with the despair in Ever since N-Y, that is impossible to put them in this comment. But there is the same image in Meet me in the Hallway: Harry alone in a big city, devastated ("I walked the streets all day, running with the thieves/'Cause you left me in the hallway") and this song is clearly related to Louis , but that matches with these verses in Ever since N-Y: " Brooklyn saw me, empty at the news/There's no water inside this swimming pool."-]
      - AND LAST ARGUMENT, but for me the most important: some verses in Ever since N-Y are litteraly incompatible with the problem of his stepdad illness, and his approaching death.
Look at these verses: "ALMOST OVER, HAD ENOUGH FROM YOU" . Is it something someone could tell to a dear member or his family who is facing death? can we really think that Harry could ever tell that to his ill stepdad? But on the other hand they can make sense if you think that these words were addressed to someone who Harry loves immensely but who is breaking his heart, and for whom he has been always patient, always hoping that their relationship could be saved. In this context the words "had almost enough from you" are understandable , Harry has suffered so much that he is almost done, he is broken, he 's starting to lose hope.
Ok! I'm done too ... See? It's possible to debate without insulting, you just have to explain your arguments in good faith, and an open mind. It doesn't mean we have to agree, everyone can think what he considers as true, but we can nevertheless respect eachother .

Nevertheless, I respect all the other conclusions , and I might change mine, if someone tell me something I didn't know ... So here it is!

Well One Direction went on their 'hiatus' at the end of 2015, and ever since then each member has been releasing their own solo music! Harry in particular has two successful albums under his belt: Harry Styles (2017) and Fine Line (2019). This song is from Harry Styles, but you should really give his new music a listen! The sound is unique and a bit more rock-influenced than what he was making in One Direction, but I feel that going solo has really given him an opportunity to express his unique self and style.

It’s sad to see them not as close anymore but they’ve grown into themselves and make music that make them happy that tells a story they want to individually tell. They don’t have that awful management hanging over them like a dark cloud. They’re free. What could be more beautiful than that? It’s a happy thing to watch them become the people they were destined to be.

I am currently going through a rough time... I used to have random panic attacks so i visited this doctor and he got me on paxil and benzos at the same time i didnt know what I was getting myself into but when months latef i accidentally missed my meds one night and realized what they had done to my brain... I stopped taking them right then i know i should've consulted a doctor but i just hated him and the possibility that if i go to another doctor he would prescribe something else and i would never break free from this cycle... The time i decided this i didn't know how the withdrawal was going to be like... I
underestimated it.... Now its been 8 days and my body has failed to carry me around i dont even know how to explain this but i keep going around in loops about losing the people who i love... No matter how hard i try my mind does not rest and i just wanna kill myself so i dont have to face their deaths i have become so paranoid that when i stand next to a wall i feel like this wall is falling off or when i lay down i feel like my cats are gonna die under my bed and I would be the reason somehow... I dont know what I do to get out of these loops because I am really tired of this o would give anything to be normal and be able to have one night of peaceful sleep and i dont know how i stumbled upon this song but I felt like it spoke to me and finally i wanna share what I am going through

Doctor (not yet) here. Look if you're think your body is a taking a toll, you should stop taking medication for a while, sometimes is "too strong" for some people, or simply they are giving you more than you can take. To make it underst your hypothalamus and pituitary (very importants glands) take a toll because it restricts certain neural connections between them and other important centers, and unbalances your "brain chemistry" (as some like to call it), give it about three months, so that can probably compensate and balance it out. I know it's difficult, especially if you are depressed and you don't know why. Try not being alone, and don't forget you can always reach out. God bless you

    • @ariadnaestrauss3895
      @ariadnaestrauss3895 Před 2 lety +3

@@kassandramunoz8741 I'm not sure, I know it's the official version, but I would like to say why I think the song is addressed to Louis, and then you'll be completely free to think I'm wrong :) I really think that it is related to the rumored break-up in N-Y, when Louis « let him go » (as he said in DON'T LET IT BREAK YOUR HEART). There is another reference to this break-up in « TOO YOUNG » : « I can't believe in gave in to the pressure when they (=S*mon) said a love like this would never last, so I cut you off 'cause I didn't know better ». But it's not only for that reason, I think there are lyrics in "Even since N-Y" which are inconsistent with the illness situation: Harry loved his stepfather very much, there is no way that he could write to a dear relative who is dying from cancer these words: "Almost over, had enough from you" !!!?? In another hand, these words can easily match with Harry's feelings after the break-up, when he was broken and hopeless as he wrote in "Golden"... There is more: Harry use the word "curse", which is also used by Louis in "A copy of a copy ..." and this word refers to the impossibility to come out, to live their love freely and openly. But the words which have really convinced me that this song was addressed to Louis are those which evocate the difficulties to talk, because it's a recurrring theme in all Harry's songs for Louis in these years (2016-17). For example: (SIGN OF THE TIMES): "We don't talk enough, we should open up, before it's too much / (MEET ME IN THE HALLWAY): "We don't talk about it, it's something we don't do" / (TWO GHOSTS):"Tongue-tied like we've never known ...'Cause we don't say what we really mean" / SWEET CREATURE : "I always think about you and how we don't speak enough" / (FROM THE DINING TABLE: "We haven't spoke since you went away/ Comfortable silence is so overrated/...Why won't you ever say what you want to say?" And even in "FALLING" because I think it has been written at this time (even if it's on "Fine line album") or has been a memory of his state of mind when louis run away : "And it kills me 'cause I know we've run out of things we can say". So this issue is very important in almost all the songs Harry wrote for Louis in 2016-17, he talks about the impossibilty to talk about their problems, or to come to an agreement even when they try to talk. So when I hear in EVEN SINCE NEW-YORK: "Oh, tell me something I don't already know /You don't know nothing, just pretend you do", I recognize the problematic pattern of their relationship in these years. And it 's also why I'm optimistic now: In Fine Line, except for Falling (which is probably a memory or a song written in the end of 2017) , this pattern doesn't exist aynmore: Louis finally answered to Harry, in a beautiful, profound, sincere way with his album "Walls", which is a love declaration adressed to Harry. Louis at the end wants this conversation as Harry always wanted it (TOO YOUNG: "Face to face at the kitchen table/This is everything I've waited for/Now we can finally have a conversation/That I wish we could’ve had before"). It's all we have to know to understand that 2019-20 (and a part of 2018 probably) have been happy years, because I'm quite sure that they have been happy, and are together since.

@@ariadnaestrauss3895 there is absolutely no way that this is a Larry song and yall are disrespectful as hell for trying to make a song about losing a loved one to a painful disease into a song about your delulu ship. Stop.
"Almost over, had enough from you" can signify the end of the battle with cancer, and expresses the acceptance of the inevitable passing and that you no longer wish for your loved one to fight a losing battle; you want them to be at peace instead. You no longer want them to try to fight to stay around for your sake, instead you love them so much you're ready to lose them if it means they no longer have to suffer.

@@carriewhitee Louis' song is really for his mother, Ever since New-York for his stepdad? ... I have great doubts. Your explanation of the verse "Had enough from you" is not convincing at all ... But that changes nothing about the love Harry felt for his stepdad. I'm absolutely sure that Harry suffered a lot when he died, so I don't understand why it bothers you so much if we don't have the same interpretation about a song?... Do you have to be so aggressive and rude with me? I don't think I need help, but you definitively need to work on what is called Tolerance, Open mindedness , respect of the other's point of view, and freedom of expression.
