- Resoling some ALT-BERG military boots today. These boots are the Alt-Berg Sneekers used by the services and in combat. We put a hard wearing Vibram unit on them as part of there restoration. The best British boots deserve the best care given to them, hence why they were brought to Tring shoe repair & key shop! Thanks for watching the video, Dan.

Ooh dam mate I wish you were in Scotland as I have a pair of German paratrooper boots which I got resoled and the guy who done them butchered them 3 times I took them back to him he didn't even use the proper all.in one sole he even used separate heel every time I wore them they fell apart I haven't had them done since because of the fear of throwing money down the drain again but you certainly know your profession .all the best and thanks for the knowledge I can arm myself with..

I was always told it couldn't be done. I have a pair of Canadian Military Mark II boots issued to me in 1989. I have been wearing them every year except in winter (too cold in Canada) and they are highly polished. I need to find someone who can do this as I am now strictly instructing and the cadets can't figure out how I have kept them this sharp this long. It really is a spit shine. No heat gun or other gimmicks. Soles are getting pretty smooth.

Great video. I am 73 now and I have served in the Airforce. As My pension is not brilliant I have had to repair several pairs of shoes and slippers, with various results. I bought a pair of german army boots some years ago and the sole on one of them is breaking up and the rubber was cracking. I used a soldering iron to weld the cracks and seal the crumbling parts. I don't know how long it will last but I know where to go when I need new soles. I live in bedford so its not far to go. Thank you, Mike.

I’ve had my brown altbergs from 43cdo for eight years and never even imagined I could get them re-soled.
They are my most comfortable boots and would love them to get fresh grip!
My only concern would be the cobbler I go to won’t do as great a job as you’ve just done!

@@colp9492 Make sure they'll accept them for resoling first, too many surplus dealers sent worn 'Defender' boots for resoling to bump up the value that Alt-berg stopped accepting them, they might be doing them again, but check first.
@@nieljohn4614 I heard they stopped doing them for free a few years back, but thanks mate I will need need to check to get mine redone 👍

nice idea to sand the sole and then use the same sole as a midsole , so the boot will be very resistant .

Great video, its good to watch trades like yours. A question, can leather trainers be resoled? I've got a pair of Stan Smith boots, the uppers are in excellent condition, but the soles are starting to wear through. Any suggestions are welcome.

Great job on those soles. I like those boots, and the soles. Now I want to track down a pair of those boots. If anyone knows where I can get a pair of them, even used, let me know.
There's a few army surplus stores online selling used pairs, but supply is sparse. If you're in the UK and you can afford it, you can visit their factory in Yorkshire and get a pair custom fitted.

Really great video, those boots looked like mine. I wonder if I'd be able to do that? I don't have all of your equipment, so I was wondering if a heat gun designed for roofing would work to heat the glue? 🖖😎
I tried reheeling my own boots a few years back using just hand-tools. It "can" be done with a lot of patience, but the one piece of equipment that you really can't do it without is a belt-sander of some sort to make a clean flat surface to glue onto.
Also if you're only doing one pair, you'll probably spend as much on the tins of primer and adhesive as it would cost to just get them done professionally anyway.
