Toddlers can do chores!! I'm so glad you brought this up. We try to turn negative behaviors into helpful ones. My toddler always wanted to play with the trash can, so we started having her throw away her own diapers. Now she can throw things away AND put away toys and laundry.
Love it! Kids are capable of a lot more, at a lot younger ages, than we think. It's good to set those patterns early, before the, "Mom, do I have to? I don't wanna!" stage kicks in. LOL!

That is amazing! Having the children help with different chores teaches them to be independent when they are one day an adult
No fold laundry for my kids! Saves so much time! I also keep their clothes on the main floor (where our washing machine is) so I don’t need to go back upstairs to get new clothes after eating!

Here's a secret. Want to have reliable babysitters so you can have a break? Teach age appropriate tasks to even the youngest kids. I had a family with two young children. The apartment was tiny. Kids shared a room and had bunk beds. Kitchen was so small that even two people would have a hard time going around each other. Their rule was, take out one toy, put away another. There was some flexibility, sure. Sometimes we'd have stuff everywhere. But it helped minimize the mess. I also noticed these kids were very focused on the toys they did have out. They were so creative and imaginative in their play! I had as much or even more fun than they did.
There was also a rule that toys were put away before parents came home for dinner. Again, flexibility here & there. It helped avoid that stressful rush of trying to get dinner together in the midst of mess and chaos. (Again, especially in a tiny apartment.) These were the happiest, most well behaved, sweet, creative children I've ever known. I adored them. Did they have their bad moments and bad days? Of course. But generally, they were great.
I learned "quiet time" from this family too! I'd never heard of that before. I think the kids were 3 and 6 when I first started with them, so they soon outgrew actual sleeping time. But I was instructed that in the afternoons, one would go to their shared room and the other in the parents' room. They could sleep if they wanted. Or they could read a book, color, or play with something quietly. It was helpful for the kids because they'd get some rest so as not to get cranky. And for me, because I could clean up!
Tip #1 is so true! I actually have an easier time taking my son out somewhere than being at home with him. They just need to get their wiggles out
That is such a myth. If you are capable of making the indoor fun they’ll be just fine. The problem is parents ar too lazy and lack creativity to keep up with young children.

I can attest to the tidy-the-house-constantly strategy. And I am single, no kids. (Not by choice.) I would do it also when I would babysit. It really is life changing. There's nothing more overwhelming than seeing a GIANT chore of some kind that needs to be done. The more you look at it, the bigger it seems to get. The more you think about it, the more tired you feel. If you keep up with things a bit all the time, it helps keep it from getting to that point. I don't know why it took me years to learn this!
