- What happens when over 45 endurance cyclists head out on a 380km Gravel Race in a scorching heat wave? This... I guess?
The Buckshot is an annual endurance cycling event that starts and finishes in Kamloops, BC. The route changes every year but it's always extremely difficult, beautiful, and very rewarding.
I raced the 2022 Buckshot, but a foolish crash at the mid-way point broke my camera, and I could not finish documenting the ride. One of my goals going into this year's event was to try and continuously record what was happening and how I was feeling. It added some extra, unwanted pressure at times, but I’m so happy with how much of the experience I was able to capture, while still trying to stay competitive.

Awesome. Meghan is so awesome. It's all awesome.
Fact: Meaghan is the most awesome.
Well done for digging deep, look forward to the next time we meet, great film 👊
Thanks so much Andy. It was a pleasure to ride with you and I can't believe how strong you are. I'm glad I caught your downhill sprint, because no one would have believed me. Looking forward to seeing you annihilate some more events later this year!
The highs and the lows, great ride Mike, well done!
Really well done film! I loved it.
That's impressive, well done.
What an effort man! I was doing the same “race” however finished much later! What a masterclass performance
You're too kind Mike, thank you! What a day! I hope you had a blast out there... and I would wager a steadier pace was maybe more enjoyable in the long run? Thanks for the kind words!
Wow Mike, awesome vid!
Thanks so much Steve! I really appreciate it. You threw down a great ride out there... that was a doozy of a day!
Another great video! This looks like an amazing ride. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!
It looks like you guys are sure packing on the KM's too! Nicely done!
One of my fave videos! Well done, Mike!!
Dude that was awesome! I was rooting for you throughout the entire video! That look brutal and you totally crushed it, so much mental grit goes into this kind of thing. Great work, thoroughly enjoyed it!
Thank you so much Chris! That's super meaningful to me! I know you're no stranger to riding in the heat too... Definitely a few extra layers of challenge there.
Now I just need to figure out how you capture such clear audio. I'm tearing out my hair editing with GoPro recordings.
I would definitely would love to try this event out.
You 1000% should. it's an amazing intro to both endurance racing and bikepacking, and the route is ALWAYS jam-packed with incredible sights and rewarding challenges.
What a feat. What a video! Love it!
Very well done. Beautiful country and a tough ride.
7:39- the look you give as you crush a gummy bears hopes and dreams is outstanding
That Gummy Bear gave the ultimate sacrifice. It's the circle of life, and I deeply appreciated the gift of his nutrients.
So awesome seeing the behind-the-scenes.
Thanks for being there Marcia! Your laughter in the final moments is a great send off for the story :)
You’re a beast!! Great to see you persevere. Well ridden and well filmed!!
Thank you John! You're the best
Wow filming and still coming in second, impressive work! I've been wondering about trying the buckshot, but in a much more recreational sense. Nice to see it documented so well.
Many thanks Alan! I think the folks touring the route, stopping to enjoy the scenery and cooling down in the restaurants probably had more "fun" in the traditional sense of the word. 😅
Any of the past Buckshot Routes are totally worth exploring. I personally love the 2021 version. Racing is only a small part of the appeal. So much to explore!
Yeah great work, an amazing feat!
Thanks Kelton! Stoked you saw it!
Nice riding in tough conditions! Way to overcome! I've completed the BC Epic but have not done this one yet. Maybe some day... Great work and great filming! If you don't mind saying, what mount/ holder thingy are you using for your GoPro? I'm just getting into filming while riding and want to carry the least amount of gear as possible.
Thanks for checking it out! Any finisher of the BC Epic has my admiration. Can't wait to dip my toes into that one someday soon!
I use a Grill Mount 3.0 for the Gopro. Light, sturdy and pretty stable! For this sort of "on-the-fly" documenting, it's perfect for me.
@@YetiAdventure thanks so much! ✌
