  • Most times when recording you need some kind of timing reference and usually that means using a metronome. In this tutorial we'll look at how to set up a metronome in a couple different ways in REAPER.
    How to enable/disable the metronome
    How to change metronome settings
How to use samples for metronome sound
    How to make tempo changes
    What is Pre-Roll and Count-in?
How to make a click/metronome track
    Actions for click track
People don't like the metronome of the metronome in REAPER, I have a pack of Metronome samples from other DAWs you can use instead. Sign up for my email list to download.

Awesome tutorial. I use the click track on probably 30% of my projects, but I should be using it for all. It's so powerful. Thanks for the reminder!

Fun tips! I didn't know that you could change the click source properties once it was an audio track, and that it would follow BPM. I just messed with it and noticed it also follows time signature changes. Very cool!

how did you desynchronize the click track from the tempo grid at 6:37? moving the clip or slipping its contents all leave the clicks internally locked to the tempo grid for me and there's no way to manually shift the clicks. i can't find any information about this online. the only way to make any difference is playback rate stretching and still the clicks are locked to the grid despite being a different tempo. when set to a different rate, moving the clip slightly shifts the clicks (based on its starting point i presume) but once the clip is split the clicks are shifted again to match the respective grid synchronization.
edit - for anyone else looking for this, i found the option to unlock the synchronization under item settings: setting timebase. it's still very buggy when shifting the clip so i resorted to rendering and importing an audio file of the click track.

has anybod experienced their metronome going out of time ? I've got a metronome and played it along side reapers inbuilt metranome and within a couple of bars its out of sync. Ive used a metronome app on my phone against both my metronome and reaper and again reapers went out of sync.

hello.. is it possible to precisely ramp the tempo changes on the click track? like part of the click is at 120..then slowly goes to 130 then back for instance?..

    • @TheREAPERBlog
      @TheREAPERBlog  Před 6 měsíci +1

yeah using tempo markers in the ruler, edit your marker for 130 and enable transition from previous marker.
Or if you show the tempo envelope (see View menu), you can draw in linear changes.

Any idea why the click track (using your second method) goes all crazy when I change the bpm? I tried 60 and it was fine but subdividing half-beats (so 8 per bar). I tried our requested tempo of 62 and it was suddenly uneven. A total mess. The beat pattern is still down as AAAA. The drop-down menu for AAAA has no other options.

I wanna ask you if here exist any topic or tutorial for some setting to automate the counting of any song you load to program so it matches with metronome if we want to set it ON while recording?? If you didn't understand i'm asking for setting to autofinding from program the bpm of any song loaded! Is this possible?? I'm asking cause some songs have multiple tempos instead of a song as Dream Theater as example or Iron Maiden. If with some setting i can have a tempo detection?Thank you

  • @finlayapps7479

Sometimes I want swing in my click!
I know you can set swing for individual midi items but a setting that covered the entire project or section like you can with tempo would be awesome. The grid lines would honour swing and all items would snap to it.
Currently I create a midi item click track with the swing I need and loop that.

If i do the :click follow project tempo...its doesnt give the 1-2 click that i have without. Seems like theres no way to have a 1-2 click that follows the grid? Thanks!
