Remember that I am no makeup artist, I did this just because I enjoy trying out new things but I also hope that this video will be useful to some of you!

I’ve watched a few dozen video here on youtube on face makeup looking to transform a 21-year old into a 50-year-old for a movie/ Music video. Your tutorial is beyond a doubt the best of all, when looking at the finished work all of the others look like a cartoon or Halloween makeup done poorly, even the professional makeup artist make the model look cartoonish while you have not. You are the only one who makes me believe it’s real age progression.

Ah, thank you so much! I've been trying to work out how to do age makeup for a role I have. While I'm not necessarily too young for the part, he is literally "the oldest man in the world," so I need some makeup work. This has definitely been the most helpful tutorial I've seen.

This is fine as theatrical make-up if you are at least 20 feet away from your audience and the lighting isn't too bright. I'm going to give you some tips. I'm 61 and I'm an artist so I'm not just throwing random opinions out there. We older people have a distinctly different skin texture and coloration than you kids have. So that is what you need to focus on. So first you need to apply texture. If you are wearing any make-up at all when this starts then wash it all off thoroughly. Next keep in mind that older skin tone tends to be very blotchy. Start out with a course sponge and a make-up that is about one or two tones lighter than yours and randomely but definitely not evenly add splotches to your face, a patch here and a patch there. Next get a make-up about one or two tones darker than your natural skin color and do the same but use about half as much. Then using a q-tip randomly apply half a dozen or so spots of rouge or a make-up that has a much redder tone than your normal skin tone. Make each spot a different size and make them range from an 1/8 of an inch to half an inch wide and not round circles but irregular blobs. Next you can either use an eye brow pencil or eye liner in a couple of different brown to black shads and apply about a dozen random tiny dots from pencil lead diameter to 1/8 inch and definitely add them around your left temple as almost all older people have some ugly blackheads on their left temple. Now you want to add some wrinkles. You want to use a medium grey to dark grey or dark brown eye liner or eye brow pencil and get it as sharp as you can and add half a dozen crows feet on the sides of your eyes, under your eyes, vertical ones between your eye brows and perhaps two or three jagged lines across the forehead. Make them as fine as you possibly can. Next you want to apply some grey to your eye brows and the hair in front of your ears. You can then add just a little bit of shadow around the lips and under the eyes and around the chin to imply bags and jowls but don't get carried away. In theatrical make-up the goal is to look distinctly old from a distance. But if you are doing this for a video you want it to look real up close. And don't forget, this kind of make-up has the opposite goal of what you normally do so never smooth out and blend anything at all. The more you smooth and blend the younger and faker it will look. If you can find a wig with dried out stringy looking grey or white hair that will add to the look. wear long sleeves and long pants or dress or skirt to hide your youthful arms and legs. A high collar of some sort will hide your neck. And try not to go more than 20 or so years older than you naturally look as it will get to the point of looking fake.

I am in my early 50's and need to age up for a role as a late 60's grandma for a play....great help but as I don't wear a lot of makeup need help with colours etc Can you tell me the colours and types of makeup I should use
I would go for colours that are slightly darker than your skin tone. Mostly bronzers for large areas or brown eyeshadow for inbetween the creases :) (sorry for the late answer btw, I hope your play went well!)

what are the make up products and brush you used for that? Quels sont les produits que tu as utilisés?
Any eyeshadow palet that has different brown shades :P and I used a brown eyebrow pencil for the thinner lines. As for the brushes, I dont think it really matters, you can use a big one (powder/foundation brush) for the large dark areas you want to cover, and a small eyeshadow brush for the smaller areas :)
