My favourite quote is at 23:05 "There is a saying about Fiat: that most people know that the French State owns Renault, nobody knows who owns VW, but everybody knows that FIAT owns Italy."

Fiat is one of those industrial products in which Italians identify themselves, even those who do not have a car or prefer another brand.
A bit like Juventus in football or the coffee machine in the kitchen, the RAI television or the beach holidays in August.
In a world that changes quickly, many people are attached to some objects as if they were cute puppies that have just arrived in the family.

50 miles to the gallon. My modern day fiat 500 averages 40 miles to the gallon and that is considered one of the most economical cars on the road today. They keep moaning about pollution but keep building bigger cars.@10:22.

Safety regulations, consumer demand, price, manufacturing ease, and emissions, are very interesting things to engineer around.
If you don’t engineer around all of these factors your car cannot, or will not be allowed to be sold.

I purchased an X19 the first year it was available. It was a blast to drive and handled beautifully. Unfortunately it started to self destruct almost immediately. The dealership support was horrid. Replacement parts were really expensive if you could get them. Alas I got rid of it.

The FIAT 501 also had Racing Versions. There Wasn't much Information in this Documentary about FIAT's Racing History which began almost immediately after the company's foundation in 1901 and lasted until the late 1930s. Other than that though; good documentary

FIAT is best known as a World Famed Car Manufacturer but the Company also Engineered Great Lorries and Buses during the First 3 Quarters of the 20th Century. Since the late 1950s they've also made Vans.

@@abedrawas5692 Yeah Iveco is now its own company and brand although FIAT still helps them out, Iveco is the only maker of Commercial Vehicles in Italy. Magirus was a German Firm that no longer exists but FIAT Industrial Vehicles (1903-1975) bought them out and used them for a few years. I've never heard of Borsani.

There was a Ghia designed Chrysler from the early '60s with a very similar rear window styling to the 2300.. It ended up being made almost entirely in Italy with US running gear but became so expensive only film stars could really afford it. My favourite FIATs were both coupes, the 2.4 Dino and the 130.

Little were any of those old gentlemen to know that fiat would be on its knees by 2003/04 and a relaunch of the 500 in 2007 would save it

I beg to differ with the FIAT Historian but didn't the 600 pre-date the 500? The 600 was born 1955 and the 500 '57
