I can't blame Mickey for his love for Bonky. I'm 21 and I'm watching Recess on a Sunday afternoon !
that's funny cause this episode was aired on a Sunday
There's a difference though. Recess was made for children in elementary school. Bonkey who is a dead reference to Barney was created for toddlers.
You've just made me question what I've been doing for the past 2 days lol
Lol
I'm 29 and I'm still watching this
:T Mikey is obsessed with Bonky.. but here I am almost 30 and binge watching Recess.
you say it like it's a bad thing
So? Adults are the ones who made the show
Me
I am 30. You are not alone! I still love this show. :)
I am 30 as well
"Their bodies fail them, their brains aren't what they use to be...."

Mikey going through a midlife crisis before turning 10. And here I am scared of entering my 30’s

There's nothing wrong with watching old tv shows you loved as a kid.
Just as long as you don't _regress._

Jordan Wright Yeah except TJ still knew at the end of the day he’s still ten years old and the whole ‘going tribal’ was a temporary thing.

This episode actually touches on a pretty cool thing. Fear of growing up. I bet we’ve all felt it before. Love this episode!
We all gotta grow up sometime in our life.
It's kinda funny. I've never had any problems with growing up till I turned like 18 or 19.

It’s an allegory for drug addiction btw
I am a 25 year old Primary school Teacher who still watches this show lol. For some reason cartoons is still one of the things I still continue to carry along with me from my childhood days and I am guessing it will be with me till death
That's so cool, I love that. 😄
27 year old English teacher and dang, this show sure gave me a lot to remember. It's my example of why I liked 90's cartoons; the Gang showed a lot in ten minutes.
We all need something to help us with being adults.
Would you care to show this to your students....
Looks like someone's just like Miss Finster!
"Can you help Bonky and me go to the bathroom? We gotta go potty."
"YOU WHAT?!?!?!"

And with that TJ was officially done.
Hell I would be done with it lol. That's way too far.
Mikey is to childish so shame for that fat idiot
@daily bump Fan I'm amazed at how TJ and the rest of them stood by him even after he made them look like morons on the playground

Good choice your a smarty.
I love how thos comment is still relevant
When you're 27 years old. Rewatching this and thinking how much you love your parents and appreciate them...the ending makes you cry 😭
I'm 30...I still watch cartoons...and I'm proud of it!
I'm 66 years old...and I watch them too!
Yes, at first it seemed very weird to me watching some of my college classmates wearing Looney Tunes and Marvel caps and t-shirts. But that gave me the follwing: you can get away from your childhood, but your childhood can't get away from you.
Saaaaaaame here!!
TJ finally snapping when Mikey went completely out of line
"YOU WHAT?!"
Was funny as hell lol
It's not often you see TJ getting this angry at someone, especially towards his friend's. But even he can have his breaking point.
i like how tj was thinking "oh hell naw!!" when mikey asked him to take him to the bathroom.. even though tj was nice enough to tolerate it he went passed the limit at that point
That was the same way Betty reacted when she saw Phil and Lil naked in Tommy's playpen.
HAHAHAHAHAHA dude this made me laugh so much lol Thanku
T.J. said it was time for rehab
I thought the crying on the floor when bonky didn't get food was over exaggerated

I’m turning 30 this year and will forever love this show… nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
I’m 30 and been binge watching for a few weeks lol
ITS NOT THE FACT THAT HE WAS PLAYING WITH BONKEY BUT THE FACT THAT HE HAS REGRESSED TO A BABY
Maybe Mikey is an adult baby perhaps he suffers from infant ism
Or perhaps he just going through a crisis and is trying to get through it by playing with a beloved stuffed animal from his childhood

Over-protective mothers, fears of responsibility and self-imposed arrested development.
Been there man. Been there...
And the ignoring of the father
I'm surprised no comments mentioned how Mikey's friends confronting him about "bonky stuff" sounded awfully similar to drugs.

It's sad now, any episode focusing on Mikey. Since his voice actor and singing voice actor have passed away.
This episode makes a lot of allusions to drug addiction. The big interventions, “getting that dragon off your back,” etc.
Remy Jones A few of these episodes are like that where they can be interpreted as something else. Like the episode with Vince’s older brother Chad. One of the commentators pointed out that it could be interpreted as a “coming out of the closet” episode. I’m sure if we looked hard enough we probably could find even more
"i cant stop playing with my bonky"
There’s many morals in each episode, some more than others.
Only a dope fiend relates the two. Smoke that dope motherfucker. N shut the fuck up.
Yeah definitely noticed that. Was expecting this to be top comment but I guess not everyone caught on to the allegory
I mean when you’re an adult you should do whatever you want, within reason of course. I’m nearly 30 and I love cartoons, anime and playing video games. Our inner child is our inner innocence, nothing wrong with that
see, doing all that you’ve mentioned here as an a adult or teenager is perfectly acceptable. It’s when you LITERALLY act like a toddler (throw tantrums, frequently overreact or just heavily misbehave in other sorts of equally destructive and harmful ways) is what’s genuinely not okay.
Mikey must been going through something with growing up that made him act out of character
Dang straight!!

Not a few years but a couple months
This is funny and ironic at the same time because in the episode the legend of the big kid T.J. starts acting like a kindergartner. Then at the end he even said that he liked it and wishes he can go back. This is understandable because lots of people including myself wishes they could be a kid again. Unfortunately though we're all only allowed one childhood.
except he didn't go over the top like Mikey did on here
Jordan Wright He kinda did actually if you think about it. Because he was actually more far gone in that episode toward the end.
yes but at least he had the sense to stop when his friends began questioning his level of maturity
Good point.
That episode wasn't Lost Leader, it was The Legend of Big Kid. Other than that, great point you made. :)
Im 26 and recently began watching this again. Never thought back to how many life lessons this show taught. That ending hit hard.
Man I am 27 and I still love this show! I watch it from time to time and Recess always makes me feel nostalgic and helps me smile!
This episode and the ending was not only very real, but very wholesome as well. As we grow up, we do begin feeling scared of being on our own and it's something we all go through, but it's just another chapter of our lives. As someone who is about to graduate, I can honestly say I feel this more than ever before.
It never goes away. We will always have those moments.
For me, first it was entering college. Then it was when I had to drop out (don't ask). Then it was getting my first job. Now it's about figuring out about what to do with my career and how to even better myself.
What I wouldn't do to have just one more day as a kid. Just one. It's reality though so I keep my cartoons and my one stuffed toy (20 years this year).
I get that he didn't wanna grow up, but the regression was a bit much lol
Bodies fail, the brain isn't what it use to be. Gretchen, he is turning 10 not 60!

Lol so true
That's the joke -_-
+Ashley Hallows (Salford Scorpian) It all depends on how you live your life you can use substances that damage your body quickly and end up being a ninty-year-old Body by the time you're in your 20s or you can live right exercise and avoid drugs alcohol and tobacco and by the time you're 70 have a body that's like that of a thirty-year-old all depends on your choices.

Juaco VTX7 He only did it because he was having a midlife crisis. He didn’t want to grow up and loose his mum. If you love your mother and all of a sudden, you think she wouldn’t be with you anymore, you would go crazy too. I relate to this sooo much, I'm almost 25 and I am watching recess at 1 am. It's crazy how I used to watch this show when I was 10 and now I relate to it so so so much. I lost my mother a year later and I now find myself acting more childish bc I am scared of growing up and I just want and need my mother to make it all okay
So I about 30 now. This episode makes me feel like I lost some childhood opportunities along the way.
I did not like Mikey in this episode, not because he play with Bonky stuff, but because of how he behaved when he play with the Bonky stuff.
I felt he acted like a baby
Gretchen, Spinelli, T.J, Vince and Gus are gonna be in therapy for a month.
In a way I felt bad for him, he only played with that stuff because he thought he'd lose his mom, and because he didn't want to grow up
Same with Tommy shedding his clothes because he saw that his dog was happy, and because he wanted to be free.
imagine how confused the kids and parents were. imagine 5 kids come to your son's birthday party and ruin it by exposing everything😂😂
Mikey is Jewish. He has a menorah in his house. And his name is Blumberg.

Mikey throwing his temper tantrums over Bonkey, lol! 😆
We are no different from mikey.. I can't get over recess!!
But recess is not a babys cartoon?
Nope, who likes Bonky?!
I think we all end up having a small phase in our lives where we end up doing things that are meant for younger audiences, but part of it is because we just don't want to grow up and take responsibility. But I feel like it's fine to include certain parts of childhood in our adulthood lives, as long as it doesn't hinder us taking responsibility. I mean, we enjoy games from our childhood, but contributing to future generations by making games (and even playing them both to relax but also for studying what works) is a great way to include your childhood in your work. Your future is important, but remembering and learning from your childhood is just as important as your future. In turn, contributing to others' childhoods by showing what you were interested in as a child and how it has aged and inspired you, without regressing back to our childhood itself, shows a great step in maturity: helping others and giving back to the past, thus moving the cycle forward continuously.
0:12 You mean Mikey is getting his first pokemon?!

5:08 *Blushes* No amount of therapy will make this okay.
As a college student, nobody finds it odd to look back into childhood favorites; I find it as a stress-reliever. Since my kindergarten year, I've been in love with "Zoboomafoo" because that show inspired me to become a vet after finding out how much I love animals. I've always dreamed of meeting the Kratt brothers since then. I finally got my chance to meet them when they performed "Wild Kratts Live" near my hometown back in September 2016. Two days later, my professor in one of my morning college classes asked the students about what they did over the weekend. When I shared my story, nobody reacted to the name "Kratt Brothers" but then gasped suddenly after I said "Zoboomafoo."
