    The Italians and Irish when they were near the bottom of the social ladder and poor they despised each other.
    One thing: Let the characters finish their lines, especially the classic ones!

    Italians and Irish had their friction, but there were lots of marriages. Al Capone married an Irish woman. As to economy, the mob were godawful for it: People in the whole Northeast had to pay way more for garbage collection and everything delivered by trucking or from the docks (which means just about everything period).

    Paulie was the boss of that particular crew but he wasnt the dawn of the mob family that he belonged to which i believe was the Luchesse crime family. The dawn of that family at the time was Anthony "Tony Ducks" Corallo

    I got a better example to truly illustrate the point. If a product costs you $50 to make and you charge $100 to make a profit and then a mobster comes along wanting a $25cut. You’re not going to just eat the cut because that would mean firing people and breaking even. So you’ll charge the customer $125. Mink coats didn’t cost a lot of money simply because it was a luxury item. As you saw the mobsters were hijacking trucks of minks. And if the company’s complained that they would go to law enforcement the mobsters (who owned the unions) threatened them with a strike. So if you don’t want us to steal from you, you won’t be able to ship your goods into New York. So now a mink coat that would have sold for $200 must sell for $1000 to cover the loss of half the shipments

    Godfather or Goodfellas, the famous question. Only you can answer that.
    Goodfellas has a faster pace and deals more with business when the Godfather is more about the family. Both great but my heart lies with the Godfather.

    Italian and Irish organized crime have had a frenemies-type relationship: sometimes cooperating and sometimes feuding. Italian and Irish kids sometimes brawled in the big cities with large immigrant populations but so did practically every other group. But Italians and the Irish are both overwhelmingly Catholic so that facilitated a lot of intermarriage in decades past.

    @sertu1462 Před 8 měsíci +1

    From what I understand, the mob lost most of it's influence over the decades. Among other things, the rico act in particular was a big threat to them. It basically means that if they can prove you're a member of organised crime, they can charge you for the crimes that the organisation commits, even if they can't prove your personal involvement in those particular crimes (if I understand it correcty, I'm not a lwayer). People were getting longer prison sentences and were more likely to be turned into snitches that way. Higher risk and sinking rewards also meant that recruiting new members became increasingly difficult. You can kinda see it from the requirements necessary to join. Originally, both parents had to be of italian decent, later it only had to be your father who was italian, nowadays, it's enough if any parent ist italian, mother or father.

      Unfortunately they've been able to come back a bit because 9/11 shifted the FBI's priorities from crime to counterterrorism, but they're still nowhere near as powerful as they used to be.

    I was looking forward to watching this, but i had to tap out after 10 mins bc if the editing style. Its really jarring and distracting the way EVERY scene cuts off the dialogue. Itd be so much easier to watch if you just lwt the sentence end before the cut.
    For example
    'My dad was always angry i worked at the cabstand"
    Instead of
    "My dad was always angry that i work-"
    Its too bad bc i like your comments & stuff but itsjust way too distracting & unpleasant to the ears :(
