    Good video, thanks. The Focus Motor only needs one connection to be powered. If you connect it to the mount via the aux cable, that is sufficient - you don't need to also plug it into the USB port or mains adapater port.

    Very clear, and realistic - I always have to drop Allen keys at least once per use! Cheers! (New subscriber)

      By the way. Can’t you power the focuser via the power output on the air?

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  Před 3 lety +1

      You most certainly can, also you should be able to power the focus motor from the aux port on the mount. That should also work.

    I hear you about losing grub screws. I was fitting a Ring Video Doorbell, dropped a grub screw and it took two days to find the little bastard.

      @StevenMorrisPhotography  Před 4 lety +1

      Haha dam those grub screws! It took me a while to find the grub screw the second time I dropped it, I thought this is it... I can’t finish the video and almost set up a grid on the ground to find it lol

    Great tutorial Steven, thanks! I just got this Celestron motor focuser and plan to installed it on my SCT 9.25 in a couple of days. I have one question though. In asistíos to the AUX port, you also connect the USB port for powering. It is not the case that the focuser gets properly powered by just one of either the 3 of the available ports (aux, usb, 12v)? This is what I understood from the instructions included, although I could not test it yet.

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  Před 4 lety

      That is correct, I believe the USB helps power it and the aux cable is there to communicate with the hand controller, as the hand controller controls the motor speed and focus. You do need to update the firmware on the hand controller to access that funciton.

    thank you, Steven very helpful video. I just got my Celestron motorized focuser. I will be installing it soon. But I guess I have to first remove the feathertouch focuser first on my SCT9.25" and put back the original focuser then install the motorized focuser. I'm not sure if the motorized focuser work on the feathertouch directly.

      That’s a good question regarding the feather touch focuser. Let me know how you go.

    With Celestron Evolution you dont'need an USB connection and yuo can control with CPWI

    Great video Steve. I use a star sense and auto guider as well. But they use up all my ports on the CGEM. Is there a way around this?

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  Před 3 lety

      Maybe once your alignment is done with the star sense you can disconnect it and plug in the focuser.

    Hi Steven, great info. I am thinking about getting one of these, but was wondering if you've had any issues with backlash? It's between this and the ZWO EAF with their new mount for RASA and SCTs

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  Před 3 lety +1

      I never had an issue at all with the Celestron focuser, I actually rather liked it.

      @@StevenMorrisPhotography do you focus manually or Auto in SGP and NINA if so what is your step size and backlash compensation?

    So I got a RASA8 fitted with a focus motor - its a bit lose. Should the motor wiggle a bit?

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  Před 3 lety

      The focus motor should be nice and secure. It might wiggle a fraction when it’s turning the focuser I’ve found. It should wiggle freely though.

  • @troubydoo

    My calibration of the focuser never stops until I force stop it. Can you discuss why that is?

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  Před 4 lety

      That’s interesting, I can’t say I’ve ever come across that problem. I wouldn’t like to advise something that I don’t know about. What model scope is it on?

    • @troubydoo
      @troubydoo Před 4 lety

      Steven Morris celestron 8” SCT. I think it’s slipping on the focuser knob. But how to fix eludes me.

    Can you control Autofocus wirelessly through ASIairPro?
