Long Term Test and Review: 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5S

  • Unbeknownst to many vehicle owners; most cars, SUV's and trucks are actually engineered to last ten years or more as long as the manufacturer-recommended maintenance routine is followed (and provided it's not a lemon). They are designed to be driven trouble-free for at least another decade after the typical 5-year car loan has been paid off. As a result, you will be driving a car that you completely own for a minimum of ten years - FOR FREE, without monthly payments. As a testament to that, here is my long term test and review of a 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5S - A car that is still in "like new" condition despite being driven over 225,000 kilometers on many major highways in the Western United States and Western Canada, and has endured fifteen harsh winters with sub-zero temperatures, rust-inducing road salt, and frost-created potholes.... A car that proves you don't have to buy a new car every 5 years, and throw away your money on car financing interest.

      Nice work! I really had a hard time letting go of this 15-year old car last summer. It was running perfectly with no issues at all and still looked very nice, but it was a 3rd vehicle with no purpose. It ended up parking in the streets since we can only fit 2 vehicles in the garage, so I felt it was best that someone else have it. I would have kept it another 5 years if I had the garage space for it. I felt so sad letting it go, I had to give it one last hug 😥

    I bought it on 2009 and it’s 2006 problem grinding sound wheel bearing and finally changed the hub cause it has a play front wheel bearing other than that nothing serious only head gasket from previous owner I’ve done it my self , changed front exhaust manifold to header to avoid front catalytic converter issue , two time alternator 3 times starter one time front shocks , rear replaced many times , coil changed every 100 k with spark plugs as regulator maintenance and yes deleted transmission cooler cause it mixed once transmission oil with coolant so bypassed that with external air cooled , air mass 3 times air intake boot 3 times and ac compressor 4 times regrease cv axle boots and changing boots of cv axle many times , oxygen sensor Afr 3 times other than that it’s good and still running well no electrical issue than one time it’s burning coils cause earth was disconnected and my brother washed the car that day with water pressure sprayer without plastic cover on the engine so I was frustrated for 3 days checking about 8 coils burned trying to find the issue and good that it’s saved other than that Iam planing to junkyard it
    But it’s still better than new cars and I couldn’t find a good second hand car to get rid of this it’s 230k now it’s 2006 and we are now 2023 still using it as DD and having my family maxima for taking them on a tour or shopping
    Or a picnic

    • @SnowRidaTravelsTheWorld
      @SnowRidaTravelsTheWorld  Před 2 lety +2

      All I can say is follow the maintenance schedule to the letter, and have a good look at any noise that isn't normal. The secret is to repair any potential problem before it becomes a big issue. Also always pressure wash under the fenders, especially the rear fenders because accumulated mud and dirt are breeding grounds for rust. Without mud to hold water, rust will have difficulty forming.

    • @DJBpartyTV
      @DJBpartyTV Před 2 lety +7

      If you just bought one take it to Nissan for a $200 diagnostic.
      Usually what you want to do is get a synthetic oil change, transmission flush, upgrade if needed to iridium spark plugs (ngk or denso), new ignition coils, new fuel injectors, replace all filters and clean your throttle body and sensors.
      If high mileage is a factor also consider new fuel pump, alternator, starter and motor mounts. (important)

      Amazon for parts
      Nissan for sensors
