Step 0 really helps. I want to make an animatic for an oc, not actually for the views, and I dont do yt, but Im still not very good at drawing. So I usually hold back and dont do any bigger projects because it wont turn out the way I want it to. Making an animatic is also kind of my try to break this chain of me not doing art too much
I'm actually gonna be starting up my own Animatic of a favorite ship of mine (starting off with official characters first since those have more references than original characters/fan characters would)
So far, this is actually helped me get started. I may take a little longer than normal though because I'm not in animating school, and have /never/ done storyboarding at all in my life lmao.

Thank you! Off the top of my head, Framed Ink by Marcos Mateu Mestreis a great book for visual composition in general, especially for storyboarding!

welp, here i go! i've wanted to do this for a while since i like to imagine music video-esque stories to certain songs hehe

I was wondering, about the music, how do you do that? If i want to use music how do i download it without being sued, or copyrig striked (i don't want to monatize it.)
I use mp3juice for downloading music from yt and I guess ppl would credit the music producer for the music in the description
I have characters and everything but one of my ideas has way to many details sadly ;-;
That's alright, it's good that you already have an idea ready to go! Try thumbnailing your idea first and see what you can cut out after.
It's very interesting to get a glimpse into your process of creating! These are all very interesting software that I might have to look into for the future!
I've been making some of my own musical animatics on my channel (most of them to the stage musical adaptation of Disney's 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame', one to a recently-run musical adaptation of Dreamworks' 'The Prince of Egypt', and one to a musical adaptation of 'Frankenstein'). I did it Adobe After Effects, since that was one of the primary software I was taught to use when I was going to college 7 or 8 years ago. As tedious as it can get sometimes, I love the creative process of it, and I love the cinematic results it can sometimes give me!
One of my biggest inspirations in creating animatics is the guy to did ones for Brad Bird (Andrew something, I can't quite remember his last name), and they are really great and give a very cinematic feeling to the whole thing! You can see what Brad Bird's animatics generally look like if you watch deleted scenes to 'THE INCREDIBLES', 'IRON GIANT', and 'RATATOULLIE'!
Thank you for writing such an insightful comment! Yes, Adobe After Effects is great for getting that more cinematic feel - I haven't experimented much with it yet. I've watched some animatics Brad Bird did for 'The Incredibles' and they are definitely very well done!

How do you get the audio for the animatic
There's a lot of sites online that can convert yt audio to MP3, they're pretty easy to find 😉

Thank you so much for this video!! I've had a hard time with looking for programs to create an animatic in! Can audio be added in Clip Studio paint?? Also is it possible to plug in your iPad to the computer and draw from there into the program like a drawing tablet?
Yes, audio can be added in clip studio paint! I'm not sure if there's a program that can hook the ipad to the computer, but if your ipad is a newer model (eg works with Apple pencil) and you have a mac, there should be a built in function called side-car that can make your ipad into a second monitor.
Otherwise, you can buy the ipad version of Clip studio! Hope that helps.

how do you add sound?
Im working on a animatic that has 1000+ frames in it, what am I doing? Its using the song 'Sarah Smiles' by Panic! At the disco. It's a Batman and Joker animatic
I have an animatic in mind but dunno how to pick the right music, and even if I do,
there is that copy issue hanging over my head, how do you handle this?
For picking the right music, I suggest perhaps making a playlist of all the songs that you vibe with so you can pick and choose your favs later on. In terms of the copy issue, it should be ok as long as your video's not monetised and you put a disclaimer in the description. That's what worked for me!

When you upload a musical animatic, how do you have to take extra steps to avoid copyright for the music? I've been confused about this for so long 😭
I just posted and crossed my fingers haha! As long as you clearly disclaim that this is not for-profit in the description it should be all good :)

I just can't get my program to recognize and let me edit my mp3 files :/
this is a year old but the solution is usually FFMPEG! And if not you can get .wav files as well from most youtube downloaders or convert mp3 to wav online
