  • Grafting season is here. This graft was done August 2020 in Southern California Zone 10a / 10b. I grafted a 3 month old avocado tree in a 1 gallon container. The scion came from a mature, 7 year old Reed avocado tree.

    I watched so many grafting videos, This is far the best detailed info. Best of all you’re showing the result after several weeks. Some people may not agree grafting with young tree in container but what not to agree if you have successful result.

    Great to watch your video and confirm that I didn't rush it when I grafted onto 1-2-month-old seedlings. I even tried my hand by grafting two thinner scions into a single cleft of a 1-year-old seedling. Holding my breath on that one. One thing I would recommend is to use aluminum foil, shiny side out, around the scion to reflect any unwanted hard light. Might be useful to those of us who can't store the seedling-graft in total shade.

    I’m glad I found this video. It’s very informative. I’ve had 2 avocado pits in water for a few months and the stems are finally growing. I’ll wait for the stems to grow bigger to try grafting them. I’m going to ask my neighbor for a couple of small branches from her huge avocado tree. Does it matter how old the tree is (where we are getting the branches)? Her tree must be at least 20 years old.

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  Před 3 lety

    Nice. Question: If I have two types of Avocados, Tree1 and tree2, and I graft tree2 onto the tree1 potted with roots, What type of Avocados will the tree produce?... The reason Im asking is I am selling a house with an OLD MATURE avocado tree that produces HUGE AVOCAdos and I really want to have a tree like that one. I beleive is a REED Avocado. THANKS!

      Thanks. The answer is the tree will produce avocados exactly like tree2. Good luck with your grafting

      Thanks! Sounds like the tree is stressed. I would add some more dirt, pack in the root ball with soil, then water well and keep in shade for a few weeks. Good luck
