    You’ve got so much insight for a PT so early on in our profession. I’ve been a PT for 21 years and have witnessed the entire downfall of our profession. It’s so heartbreaking to see so many therapists and patients suffering as a result of our F’d up employers. I filed a class action lawsuit against my previous employer, it’s been accepted by the judge. This is the largest contact rehab provider in the US. I reported their methodologies and statistical data to the OIG and they went straight to work in less than 3 weeks. I’m looking for a way out. Toooo much fraud. I’m working towards becoming a Medicare fraud investigator. You’re awesome, keep spreading the truth ❤️🙏😇

    This is so sad. Our profession is essential after injury, hospitalization. There are numerous instancess where the patient was in a particular setting and didnt understand the circumstances surrounding his/her discharge from the hospital. If we weren't there to guide the patient, family, I seriously dont know who would. Thats not even addressing those who dont have access to health care so their needs just go unmet. I think not. There's still work that needs to be done. As it relates to the toileting issue, there are skilled components to performing that task, compensatory strategies that can be integrated. Falls in the bathroom are a primary cause of injury for my population of patients. Now, once the patient learns said task or is deem unable to complete it without caregiver assist, move on. In that case, you're absolutely right. There is no place for us to be billing for only performing perianal care.

    I’m a PTA in Boston for 25 years. I work for a major hospital. I’m out. Finishing up my BS health Science. Then getting my Informatics Graduate certificate. Moving into Health Informatics. The hospital I work at uses Epic. I’m done with this therapy. Healthcare IT is the best lateral move for the COTA and PTA. I’m starting my own CZcams channel on this topic as well. It makes me upset. I live in Boston, and no school to bridge . The only school thats in Massachusetts to bridge is called Bay Path University. PTA to Masters of OT. No thanks 👎🏾. I would love to talk and have a conversation about this. Great video, and keep up the good work.

    Last year I left PT school after my first 2 quarters. I had failed to do in-depth research on the profession and it’s future until that time. Now working on getting into medical school and I really have no regrets of leaving. Glad I didn’t stick it out and end up in debt.

    ALL PT’s and PTA’s who are wiping butts need to learn the meaning of the words SKILLED CARE , REASONABLE AND NECESSARY SERVICE , REHAB POTENTIAL before you end up committing FRAUD. Yes I knew the PT profession was dying too by so many not having a strong voice to say NO when asked to do UN Skilled care.

    Physical Therapy is a blessing career. However, with the amount of loans you’re force to take out (regardless if it’s state; which is more affordable) is going to be dreadful. There a study done in 2010, Physical Therapy Workforce in the United States: Forecasting Nationwide Shortages. According to study, it predicts that by 2030, there will be a shortage of physical therapists.

    I'm really concerned now because I'm passionate about becoming a PT, but hearing so many problems with salary to tuition ratio,
    Older PTs and younger PTs having conflicts with one another
    I'm just worried because I want or wanted to learn from people, not be looked down upon like I know nothing.

    • @dr.smith_dpt
      @dr.smith_dpt  Před 3 lety +3

      Unless you can become a PT for free or cheap - I can not recommend you do it at this time. PA or MD/DO even RN is a much better option for ROI. Healthcare is full of elite assholes but you have more say as PA or MD/DO specially and can dictate PT POCs. Lots of PTs go back to school after a few years due to what was described in this video. Really think if it's something you can do till you are 65 and why you are doing it.

    It is funny and sad to see people upset over pending Medicare part B cuts to outpatient…because you’re right they don’t have the self awareness over their own practice and it’s faults. I’m still a shade optimistic that all this change will be a culling of those who can’t adapt and make the profession build better.

    Do they tell you in college that part of your job responsibilities will be wiping butts. Do they tell you that a CNA with a 6 month certificate can get a Doctorate in Physical Therapy fired for not wiping butts. What, you think your to good to wipe butts! If your in Physical Therapy School drop out. Go into nursing. Otherwise, the CNA is your boss. And PTA's...God help you before you lose your license.

      It isnt about being to good it’s about it being NOT YOUR F*CKING JOB per the points argued none of which are contrasted here - CNAs know they will wipe butts as it is their job. Sorry you didn’t have the balls to stand up for yourself and got walked all over - but again it’s not in your job description as a PT or PTA.

      They also ask us to clean the floor if a patient poops / pees on the floor. They say housekeeping only comes in to mop the floor after you clean it up.
