    In this 2 part video series, we are going to replace the valve cover gaskets on a 3.0 Liter 3VZ-E V6 Toyota engine. In this part 1, we show you how to remove all the components needed to expose your valve covers. Because we have the engine on the stand, we have a unique opportunity to show you angles of this job that otherwise wouldn't be possible with the engine inside the engine bay. This job was shown on an engine that lives inside a 1990 Toyota pickup truck but this engine also resides in 2nd gen 4runners and T100's so if you have those other platforms, this video will pertain to you.

    As an owner of a 1989 Toyota 4x4 3vze standard cab pickup with the 5 speed manual transmission for over 27 years with my father being the original owner, if taken care of this engine is extremely reliable, smooth and quiet. I do change my coolant every three years. Several years ago I did the valve shim adjustment and overall I do keep the truck well maintained, so operates like a new vehicle. Also to note, my vehicle is stock.

      Good to hear that your experience has been positive with this engine. Others haven’t been so lucky. Have you had the pleasure of replacing your valve cover gaskets on your engine yet?

    Please do an extensive video on doing a manual swap. I really want to do mine but if I do it’ll be the biggest job I’ll ever do

      100% this would definitely be something we want to document - that future video would apply to a 89-95 pickup or a 2nd gen 4runner. we have the transmission, now we just need to source the additional parts to get started.

    Should there be some consern of distorting or bending the cam shaft when removing the rear cam collers ?

    at about 43:00 min in you got the valve covers off and its all cleaned up nice, you can see small bits and wires from the brush sitting in the little puddles of oil left in the valves. How do you ensure you clean everything out especially stuff that is deeper than you can't see?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 2 měsíci +1

      We just wiped it out with rags, some brake cleaner and then some compressed air.

    Timmy, off topic question. I know you always seem to answer most questions.
    Without me having to go back through your many videos, what grease/lube do you use for ball joint c clamp threads??? I can't remember which product you use. Thanks
