  • We take out the new Toyota Supra for a spin. The new GR Supra has a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 285kW of power and 500Nm of torque. The model tested is the GTS (premium) version. This is an "urban" test drive in city driving conditions, not a crazy windy road video, this is purely to see how the car behaves in daily driving/commuting.

    Did they bring back the exhaust notes and pops from the 2020 model? Or Is similar to the tamed exhaust from 2021

    An impressive car...
    The Supra 3.0 is about twenty grand to expensive though...
    The new Nissan Z due in June will be a cheaper car with the same formula and a manual transmission available...

      If you go to build the Z, it comes at around $80K driveaway vs the Supra's $94K. It's way cheaper, but just noting the Z is $22k more than the outgoing 370Z brand new which is a shame!

    Do you by chance know if Toyota has fixed any of the oil burning issues that have popped up for some of the 2021 Supras?

    • @TalkingTorque

      Good question! I’m not entirely sure as it was a press car returned back to Toyota so it’s gone now :( but I’ll look into it and see if I find anything for you!

      @@TalkingTorque I appreciate it! I've done so much looking to see if Toyota ever directly addressed it, since I'm planning on trading in my car for next year's model in March. Hate for the engine to burn oil in the first few thousand miles

      @TalkingTorque  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      @@ezioahmet4192 Ah yes I have heard about this a few times before, the tricky thing is that we won't know until somebody has done a few thousand miles - or at least a few people for comparison. I may have to ask Toyota directly, but I don't think they'll take a liking to me saying "your cars burn too much oil, come on guys" haha!

      @@TalkingTorque Lol That's part of the reason I'm waiting until March, see what to expect from this year's engine. And save more money, gonna try to pay it all off at once lol I mean, technically they couldn't get mad, since it's made by BMW

    • @TalkingTorque
      @TalkingTorque  Pƙed 3 lety

      That’s a great plan, avoid the debt as well and enjoy without feeling guilty 😁 haha that’s a very good point, Toyota can just blame bmw on everything.. but doubtful that bmw will admit anything?!

    I'm surprised they put the michelin super sport on this. Noticed them in the showroom. They're a very old pattern and, were, king for dry grip but Mediocre in the wet.
    I made the mistake of putting them on a seat Leon cupra R 265 some years ago due to their hype, actually changing from f1 asymmetric 2's at the time. Never likely got their full dry capabilities, on the road, but certainly felt their average wet ability! Also made the drive quite harsh! There's something to be said for a good car/tyre marriage 😉
    The ps4s's replaced the super sport years ago.
    Perhaps they have a deal with michelin but the suspension set up suits the super sport better. Or might have been set up to the super sport when developed?
    They are significantly firmer to the ps4s's and don't suffer with their softer sidewalls and roll.
    Supra was never a contender for me due to auto and rwd.

    • @TalkingTorque
      @TalkingTorque  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      Agreed James! Speaking too soon for me haha (I mention this in my review), but definitely should be PS4S.
      You might be right, when they realised it, super sports were still a thing. Or maybe Michelin is trying to get rid of excess super sports and gave Toyota a good deal haha!

      @@TalkingTorque 😉😄
      If suspension is firm/harsh then yes but if it's a little wallowy already, definitely not!
      F1 Asymmetric 5's or their supersport or others with stiffer sidewalls.

      @James-RJM Pƙed 3 lety

      @@TalkingTorque Car manufacturers usually keep the tyres that they used in developement throughout the car's production which, after a few years, are always superseded by better technology.
      What's worse though is they keep making the same tyre for certain cars, M and Pilot series a good example lol, flogging them also at a higher price to some of the owners that drive them! 😂

    • @TalkingTorque
      @TalkingTorque  Pƙed 3 lety

      Hahahaha very true James! Can’t get any PS4Ss in Australia for less than $400 each!

      @@TalkingTorque Ps4s's availability and price in GR Yaris size is the same in uk, likely worldwide.
      Not sure re larger sizes applicable to this?
      Brexit and the more recent uk "pingdemic" has shafted many areas in produce delivery. It then becomes a domino effect, which in turn can cause problems worldwide 😏
      Ps4s's are good, but having had them fitted on my previous i30N for about 2 years, I personally think they're a little hyped and suffer a little from those softer sidewalls, if the suspension isn't track biased to start with! Which is why I chose the asymmetric 5's for my GR4 convenience pack 🙂
