My personal nightmare: expensive, dirty, no privacy, bathtub in the room. Why are hotels often so weird!

@@lizajane1878 You were talking about the bath. But with the hot tub as long as you're not naked, it's fine. It's like saying your neibour's can see into your garden. Why does it matter? Also being seen in water on holiday is pretty normal.

They don't want them so bad that they're descending like mad mobs upon innocent families who're committing such offenses in their eyes as eating al fresco at restaurants even though they haven't got a clue that who they're assaulting could be the family from the next town over who came in for a bite to eat.

@@davidjames579 The whole point of privacy in hotels is so that you don't end up a show attraction. You might like everyone staring at you but that's your preference.
Tim, perhaps you can do one night in a standard room and then another night in a fancy expensive room so us average holiday makers can see what we would be getting if we stayed at these places.
Yes it would be really nice to see the difference between the cheapest vs the most expensive room in the same hotel. Is it really worth the extra money?
Even if it was €200/night, the cleanliness wouldn’t cut it for a “W”.
For that kind of room, the head of housekeeping should have inspected before you checked in.

Or you can just nicely ask reception to send the cleaners up to clean the room and then enjoy the rest of your holiday rather than stressing ...
The staff probably earns less than 1.400 euro a month. I doubt they care about rich tourists room cleaning 😂😂 go home tourists

The red hotel corridors, it's like walking inside an artery. Beautiful view but the cleaners need a bit of a talk to.
It's a large building, likely not enough cleaning staff so they cannot cope.

@@samjohns3227 How do you know they make any real profit for itself? They are owned by Marriot (American company) so its likely they send everything back to the USA and can only spend on what it needs to stay open.
Tim. I live in Spain. For the bike hire, the machine is asking you for your TIE card number which is the Spanish ID card that all Spanish permanent residents have. It is similar to a National Insurance number in the UK. As for that hotel, considering it was a suite, it was very grubby and the price both for the room and for drinks and food in the restaurant were a complete rip off. In the mini bar, 5.50 euros for a packet of crisps. Come off it !

@IanHannah-cn8pm The restaurant food looked like the chef shhat it on those ugly plates. FIRE is not the best name for a restaurant at the 26th floor of a building, but it's a nice clue of where it will start.
What's the point of it needing a Spanish NI Number? When they have so many foreign visitors.

@@davidjames579 It's Spain, I'm afraid. ID's are required for everything but I think in many cases, a passport number is also valid.
Tim, I love how you inspect everything. From seeing you review the worst Brittania hotels to all the posh ones thesedays, you still stay true to the important stuff. It is all about value, regardless.
Watching your videos gives me a taste of the life I want to live one day, I genuinely don't think I would ever be able to see hotels like this or the one in Qatar and so many other types of hotels if it weren't for you and your videos. The floor boards by the hot tub will have hinges and the water supply is there. The hose will usually be under there too.
Hi Tim, I’m sure you already know but Warwick Castle have a new hotel for you to try out. They also have woodland lodges which are lovely to stay in. It’ll be fun to see your experience in one of them if you get time 👍

Never stayed at the W when I was in Barcelona, but I can definitely vouch for their washrooms that I frequently used when I visited the beach 😂😅.

I was raised going to the best of all hotels in California, Europe and South America in the 70’s and 80’s with my parents. I can’t afford what they could and there is so much more to choose from now, so having you review hotels is entertaining and purposeful. We have a phrase here in Scotland - "All fur coat, and no nickers". Essentially means that something, or someone, looks glamourous and classy, but lacks actual substance. It seems to sum up this hotel.

I absolutely hate baths in the bedroom for several reasons. One the steam from the bath floats about the bedroom. Two if I want a bath and who I'm with is trying to sleep that's annoying for both of us. I have to stay still not to wake them up. Three I'm not sure I want to be seen washing my bits .
It's a huge no from me. So much so id not stay in any hotel with a bath in the bedroom

I love Barcelona. I stayed at the H10 Catalunya Plaza in 2022.
Please stay in the Broadwick Soho in Central London - would be good to see inside what a new luxury hotel looks and feels like
I love this part of Barcelona, we stayed at a hotel, just down from the W and it was more towards the marina. Remember, a super yacht with a helicopter on, it had just pulled in. It was quite spectacular to watch those guys bring that in. There’s also a little park down where we were that had a festival as an American. It was really interesting to watch all this. I have visited many places in Europe, but Barcelona is one of my favorites.

Undoubtedly a great place to stay, but £1,992?. A bit of taking the Arthur Bliss I think, and that's coming from a long time Marriott member.

Try the Marina Badalona Hotel, just outside of Barcelona. It’s new, right of a very nice beach, with similar views but soo much cheaper than
the W.

The Hotel seemed really beautiful (minus the leaking AC) The rooftop bar, the restaurants, the beach & Poolside, plus being just a bike ride away from the city but that dirty rundown hotel room its self priced at nearly 2K? total deal breaker. Maybe a cheaper room at that Hotel might be worth it.

i had no issues .. there has always been tourisits visiting Barclaona .. i guess some are annoyed at the 2nd home thing and local jobs
The Hotel looked great, very different,views absolutely amazing,location fab,balcony lovely, pools and beaches fabulous too,food yummy and reasonable.However..the price a night and the tired dirty state of it let it down big style. The “safety locks” on the balcony doors, is because the mgmt doesn’t want any drunken patrons “falling off” the balcony itself (remember, you’re only the 21st floor)!
Children as well I'd imagine. The hotel doesn't want to get sued/get bad press.

Oh my..... 2 grand for this room? The view is stunning but a dirty carpet, worn furniture and a not working hut tub woould be a reason for me to complain and ask for another clean room. The prices for food and drinks don't shock me as one would expect that from a 5-star hotel at even higher costs. And I would get the creeps in the red hallways. Anyway, I love your videos, keep them coming 🙂
I stayed they years ago and what, at the time, was very modern now just looks old. Shocked at the state of it.
I would have complained about the room not being cleaned
I was at Barcelona last year and literally walked the whole city. Very beautiful, safe, and everyone there looks good. I was also surprised the food prices were alot less than America.
I hope staff at the W watch your video. They could easily deep clean the carpet twice a month and "buff" up the leather etc, especially for £2k a night! Love the views though. I also thought the W might have a spa as well as pools.

Indeed, the "Bicing" bicycles are thought to make it difficult almost impossible for tourists to access the service, so that it is not overcrowded... that way it is an extemely reliable service for us locals, at a very low cost and it is all an incentive for locals to bike everywhere instead of driving. The last woman major did a great job at that, also creating literally hundreds of kilometers of cycling lanes.
Outside is nice but your not sleeping outside 😊
Perhaps the security on the balcony doors is to keep the mission impossible team from breaking into your room! 😂

I do have a door chain like that (though with a little extra thingy on it as well) on my balcony door at home, but I do live on ground floor so for me it's a security thing so I can keep my balcony door a teeny tiny bit open now in summertime and still be (relatively) safe from anyone just walking in. I'm guessing for that suite, it may be to keep children safe if a family is staying in the suite since it's very high up, and maybe also to make it more difficult for drunks to go out on the balcony if the door isn't already open. My guess though is that it's a safety feature for families.
I know house keeping in hotels are very under staffed and don't get enough time per room between guests, but sweet cheezus, that suite was FILTHY! The stains were kinda whatever, it didn't look nice but it's also just a sign of wear and tear and at times not possible to get rid of by cleaning, but all the hairs and other outright grime on the carpet is just no good, especially not with that price point!
That just may have been the dirtiest hotel room I've seen!
I wouldn't walk barefoot on that carpeting, are any other, I work for a hotel front desk for 3 years, the deep cleaning is usually done by maintenance, a sweet like that would have two housekeepers and maybe 20 minutes to get it ready for the next people to come in.

From the W it's a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station (Barceloneta). From there you can go anywhere you want - the subway system is excellent in Barcelona.
Going to be in Barcelona in November again (conference season) and even for the event pricing the W is more expensive for one person in the cheapest room than getting a large (100+ m2), upscale apartment in a great area of the city for our group of three.
