    Larry is a true journalist. No "That's my boy" bs. His job wasn't to praise the fighters but to be critical. I know I'll miss him on HBO!

    Love him or hate him, Larry Merchant was a legend and had enormous gravitas. He gave numerous memorable quotes over the years. And he didn't mince words. You have to respect that

      @winycityfightfan Před 8 lety +3

      I loved him for that because he always seemed to ask the questions I always wanted answered after a fight. He was true to journalism.

      @marcpjoyner Před 4 lety

      Idontknow Iforget Sure he had that, but sometimes that isn’t a bad thing. He wasn’t a pandering interviewer tossing up softballs. He had a good balance in those post fight interviews. I liked him because he was old school and was not hyper filtered like every commentator these days. He reminds me of a Billy Packer, Dick Button, or Howard Cosell. Same vein

    He brought a writer's mentality to his broadcasts and his interviews. He'd ask tough questions and he had a real journalist's pure skepticism. He wasnt some ex-athlete that they just plug in because he's a familiar face. He brought knowledge, experience, and professionalism to his craft.

    Boxing is dead to those who think Mayweather and Pacquiao are boxing, to the real hardcore fans who see pacquiao and mayweather as just elite among large group of fighters boxing is very well alive. so many good young fighters out there, ward, broner, canelo, gary russle, donaire, and the stacked 140 division. Boxing is never over my friend.
