In this test, we compared 2 microphones: the Audio-technica ATM350 and the DPA4099 with my two double basses.

Wow so interesting. DPA usually sounded harsher but sometimes more clear because of higher overtones. Big differences in the sounds so the answer is like personal desire of what the bassist wants to project as his/her sound and perhaps the style of music more suited to rounder or brighter sounds through the mic. Win-win it’s up to you to decide. Doesn’t have to be better or worse-just more choices. I personally prefer the most natural acoustic sound and mostly play with the bow as soloist in the mid-upper range. Great test! Well done!
Thank you. I use this ATM only for to be a little bit louder than normal acoustic volume (mostly on my solo double bass recitals). In a situation like that I prefer it more than DPA.
Nice comparison! Only considering sound, I much preferred the DPA4099. Of course, in real life there are also other things to consider. Good luck with your ATM350!

Very nice comparison, thank you. I also prefer the sound of the DPA, however at that price point could easily live with the ATM. The DPA in my system sounded louder, therefore had to turn the gain down a bit to try to normalize the two for a fair comparison.
It would really have been great to have heard the Ear Trumpet Lab Nadine thrown in as well.
@@TheBassdan Thank you. Unfortunately I have never tried the Ear Trumpet Lab Nadine. I plan a new microphone comparison video in live situation. I decided to use in that video the ATM, DPA and Prodipe.

I really love the ATM!! Especially since I own one 😂 I really prefer the subtler lower frequency sound production

The DPA has less low frecuencies and more mids. ATM has a fat sound. It would be nice to hear both in a mix situation with drums and piano.
It is a good idea thank you. We decided to make a new comparison video in a concert hall. Maybe I'll invite a drummer and a pianist.
When I check reviews on the ATM 350 I see different versions such as the ATM350U and ATM350A and so on. Can you be more specific about which ATM350 you are using for the comparison?
Of course. I used the ATM350UL to this test.
The microphone is the same in all the different variations. Any other letters at the end refer to the mounting hardware.

The aim of this test was to compare these mics but to mix them also could be intresting.
we got better results 10cm away
DPA 4099=SuperCArdioid, ATM350=CArdioid
Dpa is way better sounding
I prefered the ATM, bassist usually better like the DPA.
