  • This week we visited The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, a museum in the village of Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. This museum is all about the children's and short story writer Roald Dahl who lived in the village in Gipsy House for 36 years until his death in 1990. We visit to see if it makes a good day out and if it's worth the ticket price!

Thanks for the video, great summary and video coverage of the museum which is definitely about the man himself more than his creations. I enjoy how it inspires creativity and ways to create. If you are looking to interact with the characters and stories of Roald Dahl I recommend The Roald Dahl Children's Galley in Aylesbury also in Buckinghamshire.

We had a great time there. We really didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Yes, we've heard of that children's gallery in Aylesbury. Is there much else there? Just wondering if it's worth an hours drive? Thanks for watching! Matt and Issy

@@ExploreHomeRepeat thanks guys. I think combined with the main Bucks Museum it would be. I haven't been for ages though. Also the Natural History Musuem, Tring is close by too.

As an American Roald Dahl, hope I can go to England at some point and visit this museum.

It's only a small little place, but was good fun and really interesting, particularly if you're a fan of the books. Thanks for watching and commenting. Matt and Issy

Long time since we visited. It was genuinely interesting. Remember it wasn't a large place. As you said probably could make more of using his stories in the visit experience.

Absolutely. Maybe if you go on a bank holiday they have more going on... people reading books to visitors etc. It's like they need one more exhibition space about the books and characters. Still an enjoyable little trip out though. Thanks for watching!

Does the museum have any memorabilia that Dahl owned? Johnny Cash and George Jones have museums in Nashville and it is full of things that they owned. Is it that kind of museum?

Yes, absolutely. They have loads of artifacts that belonged to him, including the chair in which he sat to write nearly all of his books. Definitely that kind of museum!
