  • Tabletop review with some shooting footage of the Sig Sauer MCX Spear LT. Put it through its paces and 350 rounds. I talk about what I like and what I don't like but overall I have no regrets and really enjoy this non-AR platform. Will be getting an 11.5" SBR in the future as that is my preferred barrel length.
    Total weight as shown: 9.0 lbs. (I keep saying 11 lbs in the video before I actually weighed it)

    Awesome video. Question.. if I get the 16in, would I be able to purchase a 11.5 complete upper MCX and slap in on for when I want to run it shorter? Thanks.

      I just tonight, completed assembling this exact setup you mentioned. To answer your question:
      Sig's online store DOES have 11.5in complete uppers available, but they are the black version, not FDE. I wanted the FDE, so here's what I did:
      1. Buy the Spear LT 11.5in barrel = $799.99: www.sigsauer.com/sig-mcx-spear-lt-11-5-inch-5-56-nato-barrel-and-gas-block-assembly.html?qty=1
      2. Buy the appropriate handguard = $299.99: www.sigsauer.com/mcx-spear-lt-10-inch-handguard-coyote-brown.html?qty=1
      This is the "cheap" method. You can build out your short barrel version this way or you can go further and build out a complete upper by buying the above parts, and then:
      3. Buy the MCX Spear LT upper receiver = $599.99: www.sigsauer.com/mcx-spear-lt-upper-receiver-assembly-coyote-brown.html?qty=1
      4. Buy the MCX Spear LT bolt = $299.99: www.sigsauer.com/sig-mcx-spear-lt-5-56-300blk-bolt-carrier-assembly.html?qty=2
      5. Buy the MCX Recoild spring assembly = $349.99: www.sigsauer.com/sig-mcx-recoil-assembly.html?qty=1
      All in price to build a complete tanodize upper = $2349.95 (Might as well buy an 11.5in pistol for about 2400.00 bucks then get the SBR form 1 done in 30 days, slap a stock on it, done.)
      Or just buy a complete black LT upper for $1699.00: www.sigsauer.com/parts/uppers.html?model=3009
      Thanks for watching!

      Do not do that! If you get the stocked 16 inch version it is a rifle and cannot legally be shortened below that without registering it as an SBR under the NFA 1934. A bs law but we are still stuck with it for now. Don't make yourself the test case accidentally. Buy the pistol version so you can then have all the calibers in the nice compact barrel lengths without restriction. Then put a brace on it. Unless our side loses that court battle you'll be good.

      If I want to run 2-point, then I need something on the handguard. For single-point you're correct.

    How do you feel about the weight on the end of the barrel in that configuration? Do you find it manageable? I am running a protac light and find the weight to be a little much on the end of the barrel, especially due to the nature of the weight distribution of the piston - I figured going for the surefire and saving ~3-4oz in weight, it would make it feel a little less heavy on the end of the barrel and allow me to aim down sights longer and avoid fatigue - the gun just feels very heavy compared to my other DI guns. Curious your thoughts given you are running a surefire in the same configuration I would do it

    • @shootloadrepeat
      @shootloadrepeat  Před 5 měsíci +1

      All external piston guns are going to be front heavy. I'm not in shape and my first couple of range sessions really showed me that I lack upper body strength, but the more I went and repeated the drills, the more I got used to it so the 16" rifle config wound up not feeling too bad. Each session I got a little bit better and able to hold it longer, with longer relays. It also helps to keep the stock against the shoulder or tucked under the arm while doing things like reloads and check drills, etc. Putting that light all the way out at the end gave me the worst case scenario for set up and helped me get used to it so that by the time I made this an SBR, it'd be easier to handle. No matter what you do, short of sending the barrel out to get dimpled and reduce weight even further, a piston gun will always be heavier. I have an LWRCI IC A5 SBR that is also heavy in the front. Most people will tell me to go hit the gym, and I know that's what I should be doing, but I always find an excuse to not go....LOL. I appreciate you watching and commenting. I have footage from this in SBR with the 11.5" barrel. I'm also waiting on an SLH Compact can for it so stay tuned.

      @@shootloadrepeat appreciate the reply! I ended up going for the surefire mini scout and that made a huge difference for me in terms of weight distribution. I agree, I probably just need to build my upper body strength, but like you I always find a reason not to lol. Appreciate the content - I ended up copying your exact build for my own Spear LT and am loving it (minus the price tags)!!

    How well does the stock fold with the thicker magpull stock on it? The factory stock is flush and im afraid to put a bigger stock that won't fold as well?

    • @shootloadrepeat
      @shootloadrepeat  Před 9 měsíci

      It folds most of the way. I have an example where I show this here: czcams.com/video/3wVlLLZsgLo/video.htmlsi=jPxWZkgbiCn0dke9&t=4579 but in my opinion it's worth it just for the usability. I'm using a B5 Bravo here, but I think a Magpul MOE-SL like what the Spear comes with would work better since it's low profile. I might try that in the future.

    I'm curious, have you noticed any accuracy degradation due to your light being so far out in front? I've always ran my lights no farther than equal to my muzzle devices vents/holes/etc. guess I've always assumed that blocking the muzzle device ports could affect the way the projectile left the barrel?.

    • @shootloadrepeat
      @shootloadrepeat  Před 7 měsíci +2

      None at all. There's enough distance to allow for expansion of gases in the event that it did affect bullet exit. On a precision gun, maybe. I can't outshoot the difference in this or any other platform. Plus I was planning on a can, which is still in AFT jail. I'm also about to convert this to an 11.5" SBR version. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching/commenting. It really helps.

      I hear ya. Although 2400.00 is somewhat in line with what some call a "premium" rifle, time will tell if it deserves that moniker. I don't think 1200.00 will ever happen though. 1800.00 maybe. It IS a quality gun as far as I can tell, but it's definitely not original Sig Sauer from Switzerland quality. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @patriotgunner
    @patriotgunner Před 9 měsíci

    No the 'eco-flow' is Griffen Armaments thing not Sigs. Also there is no such thing as "being specially gassed for a flow thru style suppressor" you dont have to "specially gas something" for a can that adds almost no back pressure what so ever to the system. That makes absolutely no sense. And you dont have to have a flow thru can to work well on the Spear LT. I have an older Dead Air Sandman S on my Spear LT and it works great !! Yes, even my 11.5" Spear is heavy. Thats my only complaint about it really. It needs to be about another pound lighter.

    • @shootloadrepeat
      @shootloadrepeat  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Thanks for the insight. I may yet try my Surefire SOCOM 556 on it and see how it does. I’m not the only one mentioning that the LT is specially gassed for flow through suppressors. Others are seeing similar behavior. I think I mentioned that other videos I watched, the gun looked way over gassed even unsuppressed, ejecting at 2 o’clock unsuppressed and when 1911 Syndicate was running the griffin ecoflow can it was launching those spent cases straight forward and blowing all sorts of gases into the receiver and the shooter’s face. The mention of the muzzle device being caked in Rocksett was where i implied Sig wants everyone to buy their cans cause it’s torqued on by gorillas. So with your experience on the 11.5 and the sandman can do you think my SOCOM RC will cause overgassing? Anyhow I put another 400 rounds on it today with an AR adapter and stock, finding it much easier to find my reticle. I did s lot better today. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @patriotgunner
      @patriotgunner Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@shootloadrepeat I think the Surefire can is a little gassier than the Sandman S so I'm not really sure how it will perform. It might be a smidge on the gassy side with that can. I've also used a Rugged Radiant on my spear and it worked great too. I just run them on the minimum gas setting and they are fine. Maybe under heavy fire they might get a tad gassy but I know from shooting a buddies spear lt that has a huxwrx flow 556K on it and it has completely zero gas back in your face nomatter how you shoot it. In my experience the Spear works great with most cans but then again a super gassy can might be gassy on the spear but then again that can will be gassy on anything because it's a gassy can by design so that doesn't take away from the Spear when nomatter what system you use it on, it's gonna be gassy.. Sig used a bunch of rocksett on the flash hider on the spear because yeah I think they wanted people to use their new cans which all just happen to be low back pressure designed cans. That doesn't necessarily mean that the Spear was designed to only work well with a low back pressure can because technically all 5.56 AR15's are gonna work better with low back pressure cans. Now the big Spear x5 was designed in conjunction with their low back pressure cans but we are talking about the LT version. Maybe that's where some of the confusion comes from that people have?..
