Aftermarket PS4 HDMI Ports Don't Align! - Broken PS4 Restoration

  • I purchased a broken PS4 off eBay for AU$125. It has a faulty HDMI port causing a white light on start up.
    I need to replace the port (if i can find a seller that has compatible HDMI ports) and give this unit a good clean. I also try and polish the HDD cover, using sandpaper and plastic polishes. Model: CUH-1002A.

    Excellent work on the HDD cover. That can be a tutorial video on its own. There are tons of scratched hdd covers and ps3s out there to make look new again. Also ps5 with the shiny black plastic might be in need in the future.

    Maybe those aftermarket PS4 HDMI ports are made for the later versions of PS4s (Slim and Pro)? This is just my guess as I don't have a broken PS4 to work on, I would love to own a PS4 someday.
    Good job on the repair!

    6:42 This is the way how I desolder hdmi connector. I have hot air station but I never use it in this case when is enough space to work with soldering iron. Key is to add a lot of tin and heating hdmi support leggs and hdmi pins at the same time. Rest is the same like you do. By the way, i preffer ERSA I CON PICO for this job.

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  Před 3 lety +2

      You are able to heat the support legs and the pins at the same time with a soldering iron? Do you cover the whole port in a massive ball of solder? I can't imagine this. I could get heat on the pins and the closer 2 legs, but not on the back 2 legs with the same iron. Sounds tricky 🤔

    • @zoranpaunovic4336
      @zoranpaunovic4336 Před 3 lety +2

      @@RestoreTechnique It's thrue, I garantie. You must have good soldering iron (in my case is ersa i-con pico - 70w) set temperature to 360°C, make giant solder ball and wait to meld all the thin (10 second approx). Bigger soldering tips needed... I use alluminium adhesive foil to prevent solder ball to escape from solder working area. It's not a joke. Sorry for bad english...

    What do you think?

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  Před 3 lety +2

      Snow? That's usually only with an analog signal... It could be the PS4 HDMI port, or a bad HDMI cable, a bad HDMI port on your TV, or the HDMI controller chip in the PS4.

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  Před 3 lety

      You need to isolate the problem to work out what it is exactly.
      - plug the cable into the other HDMI port on your TV, see if that works
      - try a different HDMI cable
      - confirm that another HDMI device works fine with that TV and HDMI cable. Try a DVD player, computer or another console.
      - inspect the pins on the PS4 HDMI port, are they damaged, sticking up, broken?
      - I think you said you've had it in for HDMI repair before? What did they do to fix it, was it a port replacement, or the HDMI controller chip?
