- This is a quick review of the harbor freight chipper and shredder. i bought it today and made a very big pile of yard waste a very small pile of mulch. It was very good for the money and it was better than i expected. I hope this review helps you understand this chipper and if you are shopping around for a chipper or shredder, perhaps this one will be good for you? Leave comments below if you have any questions.

5 years later, we are looking for a chipper and your review definitely makes me comfortable with purchasing it.
Super happy to hear and unhappy that I catch comments way to late sometimes 😂. How did it go?
Seriously one of the best commentary review I've ever watched
i mean, you comment is almost the same :)
I have the chipper shredder and love it!!!! I have an acre & quarter with lots of large bushes & small trees. This auger takes care of my clean up needs and leaves me with a really nice useful mulch. It has all the safety features needed for keeping human limbs safe. Just makes sure you shred the limb completely before you turn it off bcuz when you turn it back on the motor won’t kick on. It is a safety feature. You will have to unscrew the lid and remove any limb or debris. Screw it back together and bodda bing it works!!!! I am impressed with the safety!!!! And the mulch is so beautiful!!!
I got stuff I need to chop and now I can "Get it done"! Thanks for taking the time to share this information with us.
I've seen several reviews of this thing, but your review seals the deal for me. Great review! Thank you!
Thanks for the good words, 4 years later 😂 I'm finally seeing this? Gotta catch up.
Great video. “ I saw some reviews. They didn’t help” 😂 this was helpful because telling me every detail on the motor or blade doesn’t tell me it works
Loved your ad lib commentary. Oh yeah, I think I’ll be getting one of these chipper things real soon, tired of filling up the yard waste bin every week.
Thanks for the good words! As long as you have power to where u need to do the work, this little thing does pretty good. Online I notice the same tool in appearance, just a different brand.. I think Amazon sells em too...
Great review. Thanks for highlighting importance of safety gear.
Thanks for a great review and a great video. Definitely going to get a chipper shredder now maybe also battery mower...
I saw this video today, went and bought it. And i cant wait to try it tomorrow
Great review. I'm definitely considering one of these. Thanks!
no problem. glad i could help!
Just bought it today and I'm impressed! Never will be without one again!
Great video! I'm getting the chipper and maybe the self propelled mower too 😃
6000 subscribers? Wow ! You are hitting the big time . I like your subtle humorous narration
Thanks for the good words, glad you enjoyed it!
Have you seen the video where some yokles rigged up a radio controlled riding mower and ran the mower as they hid . The drone mower attracted potential rescuers from the hwy . Not an hilarious video but certainly entertaining
Did I just watch a guy mow a lawn for 2 mins 😆😜
Btw love the commentary LoL
Maryland? I could’ve swore you were SoCal guy. Nice review, yes self walking mowers are nice. My gas has this feature, I just walk behind it, and turn it.
They make electric robot mowers that learn your yard, like a roomba I think? It has a remote also, or an app for that to control it also like an RC car.
Put a FPV camera on it and be able to cut the side of the house without leaving your chair.
I’ve always wanted to try one, sit on the porch in the shade and cut the grass.
So the msrp of this thing was $130 5 years ago, and its $135 now ...not a bad deal with all the recent "inflation"
Wonderful review!!
Thanks!
I love your commentary
Nice review. I have the 80v Kobalt electric mower and love it
Tks for the good words. 80v, noice!
I am thinking that putting a tarp under it (or tote)... and mixing it up and drag to a compost pile.
Instant massive pile of free forest grade compost in a few months with that much green going in.
Would this be able to shred cardboard? I'm curious what the result would look like.
The mower is one I have been considering. I've also been thinking about a shredder/chipper don't think that model would work for us. We have old old (hoary) trees that drop branches a lot now - free stuff for the compost? Yes, but.... Thanks for the review, I now can tell hubby NOT to get that one.
thanks for the good words! the electric mower is good if you have patience for battery life.
Works good for me and on the bigger branches with small sticks just cut them off and feed the small stuff after the bigger sticks and it's all good.
we looked at the mower but ended up getting the dewalt mower for about the same price though not self propelled. That chipper shreader is ok but their gas powered one is alot nicer and easier to use if your not in california. Electric tools are good but when it comes to stuff like a chipper for now gas will be a better option unless your in a small subdivision with no trees and just some bushes to clean up. good job!
This is the honey badger of wood chippers. Subed'
Beware of products like these! There is virtually no parts support. Mine just burned out, after a couple of seasons of light use. It turned out to be a good unit for grinding up acorns. I never tried to use it for branches. The only spare part listed is the belt! When I took my unit apart, it's evident that the top motor bearing failed, and overheated to the point where it melted the thermoplastic housing. This caused the motor armature to grind against the stator, and then the stator windings burned out. All that the Harbor Freight Support guy could say was that the Chinese manufcturers of the unit did not supply any spare parts. So if you really want something like this, make sure you get an extended warranty, otherwise you will be out of options when the unit fails.
I have used this for several reasons and it still operates like new. Chews up branches for hours. It's always a good backup to get a warranty, tho. Maybe I just have luck with my harbor freight purchases.
If you kept it outdoor ,its possible that rain got into the top bearing, causing it to rust and fail.
Just got one from a pawn shop lightly used for a trade on my gas weed eater. It can chip bigger things than I thought watching this!
Just used it again a few months ago. If you store it well it will last, it seems.
Haha, awesome voice and humor
Great review! Very good information I need to get one. I have the weed eater and the pole chainsaw. I have some reviews on my channel. Thank you for sharing
Thanks for the good words. Yes the pole saw, my review on that is in the making. Too many videos.ill check your stuff out.
Great video! I went out and got one too. Unfortunately, mine died after about two hours of use. A small crooked stick got wedged sideways in the blades and tripped the motor's overwork protection. I've cleared the blades and followed all the steps in the manual to get it started again. But it won't start now. This poor thing struggled for me from the beginning. I'm using it to chew up small bits of a magnolia tree we took down. The wide leaves get jammed in there and have trouble going through. Any stick that has a kink or bend in it, it struggles. Any stick that is short instead of long, it has trouble. It does great with sticks about the thickness of your finger that are at least 18" long with no forks or bends. I'm going to take it back to Harbor Freight and see if I can swap it out for another.
Lol
@m998hmmwv7 really? Sad.
Nooo. FREEKING way Dooood. Dude. It's you. Ran into that flashlight 3D printer catastra-master job you did .... and then cut loose on the unsuspecting populace. ... ...... for Free. Real nice. Some kinda samaritan on our hands here fellas. Juuuuust frekkin' GrEAT. like THATS what we were missing. --
No really this is soo cool this reminds me of this one Easter, my first one where they let me go outside in the daytime. And all the normal kids were having race to gather ups all them lil eggs and whut with me being hearing impaired below the knees I couldn't see very well ( not to mention it was daylight like I said so I pretty much could only make out large shapes like a person or a tree or small clouds too but it was soo bright to me I didn't know what to do with so much light ) but couldn't see eggs very good. So .... .. but ..... Roscoe COULD! My therapy dog was really good at it so we are back and here we go right .... my dog and me put it into third gear and start with the whooping ass in the egg racer extreme eco challenge Namibia 2014! The year it almost rained. And then when we got all the eggs that Rollo could find he was soo good of a dog and so then there was this stoopid girl that left her whole batch of eggs by the fountain when she was getting some stoopid water and so I grabbed some of them too so then me and my dog .... his name is Roland we took all of the eggs home and I wanted to cook breakfast so here we go again right ?!?! Yes ?!? Eggs Benedict for moms on my first day outside? ..... NO. The eggs were so old that they had become all weird inside. And when I asked her she said it was because I was too slow and took too long like allways ( and I didn't even tell her about Rupret helping us ) so. Yeah. Really great special day outside at the eggstreme race and Miss Namibia 2013 was there and got.a.small. poster of her and me and Ripple with my egg awards ... it's one of them decorative glass trophies,, quite sharp really. Should come with a warning. Or have a suture kit attached to the under side or behind the name plate. But ..... anyways ..... it was the worst breakfast that I never had. And it reminds me of how it felt when I realized that I had found your channel using some incredibly unconnected very Long term far reaching circuituitous pathways and smoke signal solar reflector thoughts.
But I have done it all the same
:: Pats cat on top of its head a bit firmly ::
Ain't that so, Mr Peebles ain't. That. So.
- ReeeOOooooWw. Fffcht*!* *fffhhf*!
(-part of Roscoe Peebles, the half twitch mangle cat played by Roscoe Peebles, the half twitch mangle cat )
And now that we know where it hides its channel ... you won,'t be able to just dash away everytime I have a phone break and have to restart my whole you tube stuffs.
So. Gonna be a lot different this time I am gonna learn me to write and to do my ciphers an I am gonna know all about any of your stoopid Chinery ( pronounced Sheen-er Ree ) . And I hope you liked this harbor freight shredder cause I got so befuddled when I realized I had found my old sensei that I started writing and didn't hear anything about the durned tool I was gonna go o buy. Rrrreal grrrreat, thanks again Hoss. Jimminy Crickets.
There Is No Mercy In This DOJO!!!
Ok Bye. I Go Now.
yes please do a review on an electric mower ive been thinking of getting.
Jerry Sir Name I have one, I love it because it’s so light and so quiet. My mom can’t hear me mowing from the other side of our yard! I’d definitely recommend the makita mower. I have the neuron which is a little cheeper but the batteries are more temperamental and charge slower because they are lead acid rather than lithium ion like the makita.
I need a shredder to shred hay or straw. But it will hard to input flakes of hay/straw bale
:(
i've seen reviews for the same chipper before. everyone says it's the best in the "can actually affordable chipper" price range. None of the other reviews were as good as yours. please do the lawn mower review too!
thanks! yes.. i will add the mower to the list now... im trying to do a lot of videos this month.... we will see how that goes :) keep on uploading man!
i've been neglecting my channel because life has been so busy. But i'll tell you what! I just ordered this to be delivered and i'll do a video of using it :) I love mulch.
How do you think it would handle vines if I cut them shorter so they didn't wrap around anything?
I'm unsure, however I would go about id differently. Hack away at Vines or a pile of vines with a hedge trimmer. I just got a hedge trimmer and man, I wish I got one sooner. Cuts vines right off fences or chops then up well
best video ever, you would be a great neighbor. stop mowing. plant a garden.
Thanks! Stop mowing!? I'll never stop :) watch my very first video, I think you will like it.
Bobby Babinski, haha, a garden is why I need a shredder!!
I don’t have branches, hardly anyway, but I have a ton of yard waste of weeds that end up getting too big, large flowers, end of year garden... you wouldn’t believe how many of these DONT recommend using it for that.
I'm just searching for info on tractor powered chippers and i watched THIS! Dude get some ridiculous machinery on your yard an see what the neighbors say! :D
I normally run piles over like that with my lawnmower
a worthy try if your mower has the power, in the case of these, though, not even my current 23hp riding mower could chew that pile up. Maybe one stick at a time but it would make quite the racket and will maybe blow the belt out.
I wasn't serious lol
I like those electric mowers. They are silent and all you hear is the pleasant sound of the grass being cut. There is even a riding mower that runs on batteries. There are at least a few not really. I would be interested to see how well they work if I had a lot less grass to mow.
Yes. I like electric mowers. A lot less grass to mow would probably encourage a push mower over a riding one.... I do want that new Ryobi zero turn mower, that would be great!
Can I use this as an industrial paper shredder?
Paper can fit..... I would not put paper in tho, it's a roundish blade that likely would not shred the paper... It would chip the paper, like the wood. Very interesting question.
This thing has existed for 5 years? Wtf! It’s barely hitting the shelves at my local HFT.
It's usually hidden next to the tiny greenhouse or pressure washers or the auger. Seems to not really have a home next to garden stuff when I go. Dude, it's still working alright for me. May do an update video.
If you are going to need the machine a lot, save up and get one worth having. A nice gas powered one will easily make all those branches disappear. There are some with a small maybe 8 HP engine that seem to work fine for most stuff you might encounter. Sometimes when I get something from Harbor Freight the quality is really disappointing. I had a set of their screw drivers and the tip twisted when I tried to use it on a really tight screw. That was one of the flat tipped ones. That was also the first and last time that screw driver ever has been used, I threw them all away. If I had to guess, the steel was not heat treated and thus soft. Then we got my sister one of those 100 PSI pancake compressors. That thing could not build pressure if the fate of the world depended on it and it has a small tank. We were trying to inflate pool toys with it and I was inflating them at least twice as fast as that anemic POS could with my mouth. That thing would probably take all day to build pressure if we had that much patience. One of the 12 volt tire inflators could probably beat that thing.
Please keep an eye on volume of a pump for the application, not pressure. You need a high volume low pressure pump like this. RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless High Volume Power Inflator (Tool Only)

So what’s up with the mower?
😂😂😂 love this,
Damn. I just bought this one yesterday and i forgot the coupon! 🤦♂️
"fat wiring" flmao.... that "fat wiring" is usually 12 ga vs 16 ga wire and hope all of it is all still working...
FWIW, I prefer a lighter corded mower instead of a costly, heavy and expensive battery that needs to be replaced every yr or 2... but whatever works for you especially if it replaces an ICE :)
BTW your post had great entertainment value :)
Will it handle bamboo
Looks like the same machine sunjoe has. Is it a 14AMP? Looks like these types of chipper/shredders work a hole lot better on green stock. That explains why so many are giving mixed reviews, their letting the stock dry out. On many of them they say that you should sharpen the blades before you start using the unit, and that the blades are two sided, so they can be flipped around when they get dull, and the blades can be sharpened many times. The only problem with this is, not once, in all the reviews that I've watched and read, has one single person mentioned how to sharpen the darn blades! SMDH
Well, I show the blades... But I have yet to sharpen them. I don't use it enough to warrant a sharpen yet.
Do you have a review on the beer.
No but the closest thing is my 5k subscriber video and the game of thrones wine. High class.
Do you think that I could put pieces of cardboard in there just fine?
yes. i could fit a wrench in it, too. now.... will it shred it? thisbi do not know
You could have saved a little time and effort by putting a bucket under the chipper's discharge port.
Does it schred paper?
I wanna hang with this dude, he's too funny!
Do the mower review! TIA
Need a blade for 2.5 chipper/shredder
Please review the mower
+Big Mountain Bob i will do that... Amd the RV .. must sort priorities!
I wood get the harbor fright gas wood chipper for myself if I was doing bigger things
You’re hilarious!
"Fresh Bush"
Is this a clone of the Sun Joe chipper? Or is Sun Joe a clone of this?
There is likely a factory in China that sells these by the thousands to different brands globally.
@@TRYtoHELPyou Makes sense.
Why not put a bucket under the outlet to catch the chips??
+C Peterson umm.... Not too sure. I didn't think of that. I was ok with just letting them drop. You know. Filling the buckets was very quick and easy.
I need this for my rose bushes, crept I would throw away the chips.
let the chips fall where they may....
It works better if you feed less at a time. More efficient.
bottom line is price.... how much
Where is that chipper made?
China, like ~95 percent of everything else sold in America... Including the apple iphone.
": Urp!" ummm, Like WTF brand was that mower ?' Hic!"
(belch)....... Yep
AND.. I got a 25% off coupon for Labor Day!!
said, tearing up some fresh bush, yeah I like it!
Got one, tried to take the cheap way out and was very disappointed. It was just too weak for my needs. Guess it's ok for smaller yards but if you really have some yard work... go bigger
I agree. It has a harder time with plants thank are not freshly pulled/cut down
3:17 No Diddy.
Yea but you used the softest tree ever! That tree super spft to cut so thats why its easy pn that chipper!
The ryobi ones are much better. They cost a little more but way worth it.
Hey look Ellie May, a 'LECTRIC pencil sharpener!
next project after your electric bike: self driving lawnmower that utilizes solar
Worx landroid
This unit is way, way too small for a serious gardener like me. The throat (inlet) diameter has been reduced by the safety police so much you cannot feed large plants or armfulls of leaves. My chipper shredder has an inlet diameter of about ten inches, and I can shred entire wheelbarrow loads in just moments. By the way, this machine has been over-safetied so much you can forget about the face mask.
Will consider renaming this video to "enormous pencil sharpener from harbor freight".....
Seems like more work than just having public works pick up your yard waste :)
its absolutely more work physical labor wise! i either spend the time making the money and then spend it to have someone else do the cleanup or i do it myself. either way, im spending my time you know?
TRY to HELP you what's awesome though is you are slowly convincing me to look beyond HF hand tools! Lol. PS isn't it great driving around in our Leaf's while gas prices keep creeping up?! Keep up the great vids!
you are turning to the dark side.... and yes, though the reasons are never certain, only speculated... yes. I am liking that i dont have to worry as much about the gas prices now. we did fill up our gas vehicles though. I want to get another EV though... theres no need for the suck, squeeze, bang, fart under the hood of my car. Im currently testing the battery capacity of my hercules battery that came with my harbor freight drill. There is so much.....so many people with opinions and little by the way of objective facts. I am very interested to see what the result is.
That plot of land is begging to be turned into a permi garden.
Look up forest master chipper on you tube
You will need a handful of stuff. Lolol.
Well yeah tho.
Wear a mask and earphones when chipping - because "safety first, second and third", but drink a beer while mowing the lawn...
You got ppe'd out for an electric shredder. LoL
Forest master £400/£500 best chipper out folks don't waste ur money on this
Review mower
Lmao 😂😂
Pencil sharpener
Bought one
I'm taking it back
It's crap
Smells like salad...Hahahaaaaaaa!!!!!
Never trust a man who doesn't mow nice even lines in his grass
If this is advice then my poop smells like strawberries.
Weak
...CAN YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK??
.... POSSIBLY
Painful to watch 😂😂😂
DON'T BUY. I've worked in forestry and used many different types of chippers. Though I'm not such a snob that I do understand that homeowners want something small, but this is a really terrible machine. So much so that I feel morally obliged to write in the comments of everyone of these reviews. Can't chip anything. Jams constantly. These machines will fill our landfills along with the branches they were unable to chip.
I mean, I used it right before winter this year and made several buckets of wood chips... I think the trick is that it has to be freshly cut. If it is old dead wood the machine really can't handle it, yeah.
I have to say this was the absolute worst tool I have ever purchased. It is totally useless. Great for absolutely nothing that falls in my yard. I’ve owned it for over 3 years and used it, or should I say tried to use it, twice. In my opinion it is junk.
@@simpleminded5215 this is congruent with trying to chop up dead branches, for sure. If it's naturally fallen on its own, and needs to be chipped, the operator will wish for something digferent. You gotta do it right away with this thing. I think I mentioned it in the review with regards to fresh bush, or something like that.
