April 7, 2023.
It's prom night, but I've gotten tired of dancing. Two classmates I used to know are prom king and queen. My siblings are having fun. In fact, everyone is. I had fun, but I have this somber feeling in my gut. Tomorrow, my favorite show that brought me through my years in high school is coming to an end. The Owl House.
The more I think about it, the more it mirrors my life in high school. You might disagree, but my high school was like the Boiling Isles to me. I made friends. Learned a bunch of things. I've also been through a lot, like the pandemic. I cried. I laughed. I smiled. It felt like I was a character in a tv show. But like the short and final season itself, my senior year is coming to an end. Like the protagonist, I had to go back home.
After a few minutes of thinking, I decided to walk out of the dance floor. Rules say that if I leave, I can't go back. I couldn't care less. I didn't want to care about anything anymore. I wanted to be alone with my thoughts. I walked through the unfamiliar hallway with my luscious champagne dress dragging across the floor. I could've wasted my prom money dancing with a guy, but I didn't. I danced with a few girls, but nothing cured my loneliness.
I saw the exit doors of the building. These doors would let me out into the night so I can gaze at the moon. I walked up to them. I reached for the handle, but I hesitated.
Should I really leave?
Should I leave the precious moments of my school behind? Move on to another life where I'll never see my friends and teachers again?
And stay trapped?
I guess I have no choice.
I opened the door.
Suddenly, I saw a world that wasn't the parking lot. It was the Boiling Isles, modified by a little god known as the Collector. Cartoon-like stars fall under the navy blue sky as I watch in awe. My eyes brought upon a group of people standing. I know them.
Amity.
Gus.
Willow.
Hunter.
Camila.
And her daughter. The star of the show. The 15 year old human who dreamed of becoming a witch and now has grown into one as powerful as Azura. The misunderstood girl who shined a light to people who felt like they didn't matter. The girl that has changed a lot like I have. Her name is Luz Noceda.
I felt my feet move at a fast pace. My hands holding tightly to my dress. My tears ruining my makeup. I yelled out her name. She looked behind and before she knew it, I held her tightly into a hug.
I couldn't say goodbye. Not to my friends. My teachers. To anyone, especially Luz. All I could say was "See you on the other side."
"Oh Emma, no." I felt her arms wrapping around me. After a few seconds, Luz said, "There is no other side.
