- "Manhã de Carnaval" ("Carnival's Morning"), is the title of the most popular song by Brazilian composers Luiz Bonfá and Antonio Maria. It appeared in the 1959 Portuguese-language film Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus), by French director Marcel Camus and based on a play by Vinícius de Moraes.
In the USA, the song is also known as "A Day in the Life of a Fool", "Carnival", "Theme from Black Orpheus", or simply "Black Orpheus". In France, the song is also known as "La Chanson D'Orphée." The song is also known by the Spanish title "Mañana de Carnaval". All versions of foreign texts were written by different people using Bonfá's original music
Baden Powell de Aquino (August 6, 1937 - September 26, 2000) usually known simply as Baden Powell, was one of the greatest Brazilian guitarists. He often performed on stage during most of his lifetime, and recorded an extensive discography comprised by LP and CD albums produced in Brazil and Europe, particularly in France and Germany.

Perfect. Even when rushed a bit, then too it sounds perfect. I’ve heard countless renditions of this masterpiece, and they all try to sound the same, painting it in some serenade-like colours which ends up sounding banal. But not Mr. Powell. Sooo authentic tone, cannot be reproduced nor imitated

You cannot do that, but, the glorious Baden did, as is the stuff of genius, of skills and attitudes beyond our dreams. How one turns a mere little guitar into an instrument of orchestral mass and sweet art is beyond us.
Spectacular make sure you also see him as a younger man playing this same piece.

Ele faz uma introdução e na hora que ele entra na musica com o agudo seguido do grave como um estrondo é magnifico. Esse cara é um gênio, poucas vezes vi a tristeza tao bem representada.

domingo de carnaval cai em 2021 no dia do meu aniversário 14/02 então como não vai ter carnaval na rua esse ano dedico essa música a mim mesmo.
Tristes trópicos, de um povo que sonha... e manifesta a melodia que se desfaz após uma manhã de carnaval. Baden soube expressar esse sentimento com maestria.

+skategangster You must have had a very short life so far. Baden started on a Jazz club in Rio in 1959, playing a Gibson L5. That was right before bossa nova.Cheers PS the 2 roundbout midnight version played by him should further enlighten you!

His professional debut was in 1952 and he did not "start" by playing a "Gibson L5" at all.
+skategangster I have just discovered himself while preparing for a Jazz radio show. Ignore the smart comments by" know it alls". Thats the beauty of Jazz and great musicians (Session players or Stars) - there's always a terrific discovery around the corner.
