No matter who sang for Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio or Gillan this is HISTORY. Tony Iommi IS the Black Sabbath from the beginning to the end he never gave up the band even when days were hard
@@Miguellativo Without Ronnie James Dio the band would of ended, Iommi himself was looking for a new frontman and if he couldn’t find it. Their Black Sabbath career would of been over. Heaven And Hell(1980) inspired Lita Ford, Rob Halford, Lemmy, Bruce Dickinson, Metallica, etc. Which led to more metal bands not just Led Zeppelin(If u count them as metal) and Black Sabbath. @Miguel Angel Flores Flores what do you mean?are you still bitter when ozz get fired? ozz in black sabbath is great and wild but when it comes to singing its on dio both is great the only reason its not as famous as ozz its because they've been watching and listening ozz in sabbath for how many years? 10 years? of course its new to them to see dio there and some cant still get over but dio is sabbath is perfect
Much Respect to late great Metal Giant RJD for singing Sabbath songs with so much power and soul and not copying Ozzy, Only beeing him self and Taking Sabbath to Greater Heights, Thank God! And that's Why he sucsseded \m/
okey, Ozzy are the original singer.. and he has an unique voice that match Black Sabbath damn good.. but I dont get why people dont like Dio in Black Sabbath... he gives the song more power, I really like him in Black Sabbath too.. two different singers, but damn they are good!! RIP Ronnie James Dio! you are one of the best singer in all of rock history!
Dio had a tendency to take it over the top.. but Heaven and Hell.. that's pure masterclass and the best reason to be glad he was a part of Black Sabbath. RIP
Dio is a much more talented musician than Ozzy, but what really matters is that he actually practiced and didn't do so much fucking cocaine. As a live musician he was superior in every aspect.
dzamija922 That's my problem with Dio. He wasn't wild and living on the edge like Ozzy in both lifestyle and singing. Dio sounds more "safe" and paint by numbers, whereas ozzy is less technically good but because of that so raw and emotionally powerful. It's why I love the album Plastic Ono Band, one of the heaviest albums ever made even thought it doesn't come close to metal except one of the songs absolutely was metal. That album has john lennon screaming at the top of his lungs, not screaming in a musical way, not trying to make singing sound like screaming, but just screaming. And the songs are about REAL heavy shit, not medieval battles and Satan, but his mum dying as a kid and how it fucked him up and his search for meaning in his life and how fucked up he is. Ozzy era sabbath is more like that to me. Whereas dio era sabbath sound way more generic to me. It's all opinions, neither of us are "correct". But yeah to me, especially with today's music scene, genuine raw unpolished energy and power is far more interesting to me than more polished and technically superior music. Dio is one of the most gifted singers ever, no doubt. But ozzy isn't as gifted, and that's what makes him better to my ears, because it means he has to try all the harder and push himself much further to get a good sound out, so it sounds like the extremes of what he could do, whereas again to me dio was so capable on a technical level that it always felt within safe boundaries. It doesn't help that I think the songwriting of ozzy era sabbath was a lot better. Again, it's all just opinion, nobody is right or wrong. But yeah Sabbaths early albums sounded so different to me, so much more unique, so raw. They had no guidelines on how to write a metal song, they had to invent them, and by the time dio was around there were established genre methods of writing and so they sound to me way more indistinguishable from any other metal band of that era. Less creative and less ingenuity. There's nothing wrong with that per se. Writing a song within the framework of a well trodden genre and making it as standard as can be and yet still making it brilliant is one of the absolute hardest things to do as an artist in any art form. And simply being the first to do something or being creative for creativity's sake does not inherently make a piece of art good. But when something is breaking rules and conventions AND being well made at the same time, like early sabbath, again it's so much more raw and powerful to me. Maybe I see it that way because I'm not "a metal fan" but instead I listen to every genre and love bits from all of it (even a lot of country) so I'm approaching it in a different way. The Beatles are my favourite band because they invented so many new things AND wrote songs at genius level. And in every other genre, metal included, that appeals to me more I guess But yeah especially when Dio sings ozzy era songs, it reminds me of when an x factor contestant covers a Beatles song. It's on a technical level much better, but the singing doesn't have the same power and impact that the beatles singing it did. Not that dio is as bad as an average x factor contestant, it's just an analogy (I love pop music too and x factor contestant style singing is perhaps the logical extreme of unoriginality mixed with technical greatness resulting in a boring end product; compare that to say Sia as a songwriter and singer within pop)
War Pigs is about real shit too. War Pigs tells us about how Poor men fight the wars of the rich, and get killed while they get more and more power . With ozzy,it's a scream of anger. With Dio,it's more of a baroque singing showoff, notice how he adds a lots of vocalizing. I love Dio,but he always over-sang ozzy's song. Sabbath with Dio is a totally different band from Sabbath with Ozzy. I think that the analogy you're making with X Factor kinda fits, and I would suggest you also to check out Adam Lambert singing with Queen. Basically the same thing. A technical singer showing off on songs that weren't his and totally missing the point
I love Dio and I have no problems with the Sabbath stuff that was made when he was the singer, but when he sings Ozzy stuff like here, it just completely changes the impact of the song. He's from a different school of metal. Ozzy is all about rawness and anger, Dio is all about those high notes and theatrics. Original Sabbath is a harder type of groovy blues to me, and Ozzy just fits the atmosphere better for me.
I had the Pleasure of meeting him twice once at a strip club , then at a rock club the same night my x and I talked with Zykk Wylde and girl friend , that was the night Zakk got the gig with Ozzy we were one of first to here this What a night that was

Watching this video it appears to me that Dio is having a great time doing the classic Sabbath songs. he really fit in well with Sabbath. Furthermore, in the 8 years from 74 to 82 did anybody put out a better body of work than Dio with Rainbow and Sabbath? I think not!
...well u need to think again because let's see from 1974 to 1982 well pink floyd, alice cooper, queen, ozzy w/ sab and solo, there you have it. ..and from 1974 to 1982 did anyone write lamer lyrics than dio? Likely someone did but there are no rainbows in the dark and nobody tells me that the Moon is just the Sun at night and if they did I would tell them to go bugger off!
if there is anyone I miss from the original Sabbath lineup it would be Bill Ward and if you doubt me look up the war pigs version from the 1970 live in Paris Sabbath show. Also Hand of doom. ...so if you think something is missing from this version its not the vocals its the drumming.
