As I was wiping my eyes I noticed many others doing the same, so we weren't alone. Happy Returns was another moment that just hit me hard. Those lyrics, that melody and the solo. I agree on the ":widely known" aspect you stated. It's almost like other musicians have conspired to keep Steven muted because of his immense talent. I am 67 and I have RARELY seen an artist with the skill of Steven. I had tickets to see him in December of 2018 but a snow storm kept me from getting there, three hours from where I live. I hope I get a second chance.
OK, I know as I am getting older, I get more sensitive. But I gotta tell you, I've been listening to this song many, many times. And it still chokes me up everytime I give it a listen. And a watch, because this video makes it that much more emotional. Emotions, isn't that why we give music a fuck to begin with? GOAT in my opinion.
She is a force of nature. It makes me reminisce of Ann Wilson during the 70's, in terms of Ninet's raw power, range and charisma. That this was done as warm up to what I am sure must have been an amazing show...oof. I just saw Steven in Zurich two weeks ago and he did not play this song, which I guess is literally impossible without her voice and presence. He and his band were still awesome of course....
Omg Ninet, your vocal is absolutely devastatingly beautiful, SW really amazing how he wrote and performs this excellent work of art, and Jess Cope visually captures the same so well!
Don't ever let go, try to let go, don't ever let go, try to let go, don't ever... There is deep meaning behind these lyrics! Beautiful song and animation... Congrats to the creators!
This is SO emotional and so supurbly played and sung. Ninet has voice of an angel. I have played this I think about 20 times and still get a thrill out of it.
Ah the beauty of social media and the internet.... I’d never even heard of this Steven Wilson guy about half an hour ago. I randomly happened upon a link on CZcams to a Roland drum clinic by Craig Blundell (whom I had also never heard of), discovered that he’d played in some prog rock band with Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo back in the day, thought “that sounds intriguing” and now I’m on Amazon ordering the Blu-ray of this concert!
John Rhodes: Great comment. There is Porcupine Tree and Blackfield to catch up on for starters. The PT work is mindbogglingly great and so is the Blackfield project for that matter. The latter tends to be more subdued stuff. Enjoy....Steven is a genius if there ever was one.
I came across PT after seeing King Crimson. I had heard of the band, but never the music. I think I thought it was another Seattle band or something. But watching Gavin Harrison play that night made me look deeper at him. I came across the video for Anesthetize, then Russia On Ice. I kept seeing the videos for SW but wanted to absorb the PT before I checked out the solo guy. Then I saw he was coming to ATL in concert. Immersion.
@@Gerf2112 Gavin is one of the best drummers I have ever seen. I have seen Ginger Baker, John Bonham and Bill Bruford in concert and he can go with the best of them. Bill was the absolute best I ever saw. Caught him with YES in the early days. Amazing percussionist.
Every single time I listen to this song I ball my eyes out. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the middle of a Steven Wilson concert or if I’m at my home. But it’s the good kind of cry. The last couple of years it has gotten even worse after we lost our niece to cancer. She was only 15 and it broke our hearts......
Kimael, you will overcome the grief and dry your eyes and someday cherish this Stephen Wilson track for the fond memories of family pain. take care pal
That riff and scream at around 7:23 then quiet gave me chills from head to toe! Another masterpiece from Steven & Ninet. Looking forward to catching Steven in Tampa, Florida in two weeks (Steven my good man, you have to bring Ninet with you on one of your American tours - she is a phenomenal vocalist). Cheers!
Steven is in a class of his own- "Recording/Writing/feeling/passion and truth. He truly is the most inspiring composer/performer alive today. I have see him twice live and he has personally changed my life for the better.
Then she probably won't be at the Tampa show next week. John Wesley (who toured as a guitarist with Porcupine Tree) is going to open for Steven. John is from the suburban Tampa area, and opened for Steven the last time I saw him in Orlando.
Oh I've always just listened this video, and today I've watched (and listened obviously) for the very first time. What a beautiful song and a beautiful manga...
I first heard of Steven Wilson singing Can Utility And The Coastliners with Steve Hackett - really thought he had a great voice Then I started getting into his songs, like this one.. which is absolutely haunting and mesmerizing! Ninet's soul is pouring out - what an incredible voice. The story is so sad that I can't experience this song too often, yet it is so beautiful and relevant to the world we live in that I can't stop listening to it. I want to share this with my friends on social media but very few of them have my taste in music and I am afraid they would not get it or worse, not even bother to listen.
An absolute privilege to have been at seven of the gigs on that tour, including all three at ‘The Hall’. Truly, Steven Wilson owns the ‘residency rights’ there! And to witness the performances of this. So very many in the audience with ‘something in their eyes’ after this majestic song
Just recently introduced to Steven Wilson. Between this, Drive Home and The Raven that refused to sing....you have a trifecta of beautifully depressing music....it's bloody brilliant
my three favs. and also home invasion from hand cannot erase "another day on earth has passed me by. and i have lost all faith in whats outside. the awning of the stars across the sky. in the wreckage of the night" every time i hear that chorus i swear i get a peek/glimpse of joyces' decaying skeletal remains bathed in the screen light of the television that remained switched on throughout the entire ordeal of her death and decay. it's so creepy and curious. but frightening that someone is capable of getting all that into what is essentially just sound. that mans' a fucking genius without any shadow of a doubt.

They are all amazing musicians, but as a guitarist myself, I want to shout out to the guitarist here (sorry I don't know his name). He plays the acoustic part without a single even slightly muted note despite complex chord shapes and his solos are totally on-point. Kudos brother.

I am 67 and I have RARELY seen an artist with the skill of Steven. I had tickets to see him in December of 2018 but a snow storm kept me from getting there, three hours from where I live. I hope I get a second chance.
Wonder if you've got this epic in there? czcams.com/video/fTvJ1TYORJg/video.html
Check out Steven Wilson's catalogue. ALSO, please check out Porcupine Tree. Mr. Wilson is criminally under-known and this should change.
This is one of the songs why I like music. They take their time to develope a story which goes really deep. Awesome ...
This is dramatically a sad song, but on the other hand it's a masterpiece and I could say it's the perfection itself in music terms .
This is special, glad I'm around to hear it.
This gives me goosebumps every time... The live version is better than the studio track. Wilson is a modern genius.
perhaps the most beautiful, sad, and powerful song I've ever heard....gives me chills of exhilaration and tears of pain
What a fantastic voice Ninet Tayeb has, and what an icredibly beautiful tone in that guitar solo!
Ninet's voice is haunting, captivating, moving. I can't get enough.
jvb
I can't count the number of times I've listened to this song and it still brings tears to my eyes.
נינט יא כישרון נשמה! מרגשת עד כדי דמעות! כוכבת בינלאומית יא אללה, למה לא נולדתי יהודה לוי
To all aspiring musicians - note the palpable passion here that even goes into rehearsal. Extraordinary and appreciated.
Omg Ninet, your vocal is absolutely devastatingly beautiful, SW really amazing how he wrote and performs this excellent work of art, and Jess Cope visually captures the same so well!
Alex Hutchings. Always been a seriously genious guitar player in my eyes. Glad to see him playing with Steve Wilson.
This is the lockdown soundtrack for me..... especially the "lonely" feeling of the empty hall... wow...
"Ninet's amazing!" = Understatement of the year!
I'm crying. So beautiful
Truth....
Don't ever let go, try to let go, don't ever let go, try to let go, don't ever... There is deep meaning behind these lyrics! Beautiful song and animation... Congrats to the creators!
First time I've heard this live. Made the hairs on my arms stand up. Absolutely stunning. SW is a genius songwriter. Love it.
This is SO emotional and so supurbly played and sung. Ninet has voice of an angel. I have played this I think about 20 times and still get a thrill out of it.
God I love Ninet’s voice
Ah the beauty of social media and the internet.... I’d never even heard of this Steven Wilson guy about half an hour ago. I randomly happened upon a link on CZcams to a Roland drum clinic by Craig Blundell (whom I had also never heard of), discovered that he’d played in some prog rock band with Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo back in the day, thought “that sounds intriguing” and now I’m on Amazon ordering the Blu-ray of this concert!
Well, You have about 25 years of back catalog to catch up on, including past and side projects.
Actually quite jealous that you're discovering this for the first time!
I wish i was there for this beautiful amazing masterpiece live 😭 how melancholy is this , beyond the limitions
Unbelievable...! Goosebumps when Ninet sings over the soaring tones of the guitar (6:13)!
100% agreed.
me too. full body.
I say this again; Ninet is like a rock angel descendant from heaven for us to hear.
Steven is so lonely that he likes performing in an empty Albert hall. :D
Elite..
I’m wrecked.
I may never be the same, after this musical experience
That riff and scream at around 7:23 then quiet gave me chills from head to toe! Another masterpiece from Steven & Ninet. Looking forward to catching Steven in Tampa, Florida in two weeks (Steven my good man, you have to bring Ninet with you on one of your American tours - she is a phenomenal vocalist). Cheers!
Steven is in a class of his own- "Recording/Writing/feeling/passion and truth. He truly is the most inspiring composer/performer alive today. I have see him twice live and he has personally changed my life for the better.
I have heard Ninet in Montreal a couple of years ago - she is the REAL deal. Last week, in Montreal, she wasn't on stage, unfortunately.
Totally agree. This will be my 5th time seeing him live (including Porcupine Tree shows).
She came with him to Salt Lake City last summer and her band opened the show. Ya, talk about chills... her band is amazing, too
Then she probably won't be at the Tampa show next week. John Wesley (who toured as a guitarist with Porcupine Tree) is going to open for Steven. John is from the suburban Tampa area, and opened for Steven the last time I saw him in Orlando.
What a fantatic voice. Holy shit I'm getting chills
I just discovered Steven Wilson a day ago and I can stop listening to this song ...
This is not a song...This is pure emotions....
Wish I was there to see this alone in that Hall. Magical!!
Even better than the studio version!! That's pure magic! 🤩♥️
who noticed the tokyo ghoul shirt of the drummer ?
ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
HCE tour in Cremona he had a My Neighbor Totoro t-shirt. Chatted with him after the gig, he was super nice to everyone
What a reality we're living in, right?
yea I just did. It's damn nice
2020 and I'm still here.
me 2
Okay nobody asked
This is truly one of the greatest songs ever written.
An absolute privilege to have been at seven of the gigs on that tour, including all three at ‘The Hall’. Truly, Steven Wilson owns the ‘residency rights’ there! And to witness the performances of this. So very many in the audience with ‘something in their eyes’ after this majestic song
What a gut punch! Sometimes I think I'm not an emotional man, but bam! There it is! This song just captures me!
This song has a different atmosphere.Every time I listen to this it makes me cry.
Fathers fear losing their children too. Mothers express it so beautifully.
Thought this was a concert in corona virus times til i realized it was a rehearsal.
Not a rehearsal just played that way
@@wildrosecece it is a rehearsal. Check the description
This is no. Rehearsal
Wow Steven Wilson ist ein unglaublicher Musiker. Dieser Song löst heftige Emotionen aus. Das Arrangement der Instrumente, die Stimme der Sängerin, - ein Meisterwerk.
Music as its meant to be, melodic, haunting, leaves an impression on your soul.
They are all amazing musicians, but as a guitarist myself, I want to shout out to the guitarist here (sorry I don't know his name). He plays the acoustic part without a single even slightly muted note despite complex chord shapes and his solos are totally on-point. Kudos brother.
Guthrie Govan I believe..
Alex Hutchings
@@robertedge4183 Just to clarify, the original recording as per the CD was Guthrie Govan but for complex reasons he did not go on tour so Alex Hutchings stood in.
Steven and Ninet... why do you do this to me.. I can't cry anymore!! This is like the saddest song known to man.. omg I am CRYING AGAIIIN!!!
Magician and mystical! Vocals were "over the top"! Beautiful harmonies! Ms.Nanet has incredible vocal range! All the musicians performance was stunning!!
I am in awe - so heart wrenching - the empty auditorium magnifying the mother's angst and terrible desolation
What a brilliant song. I hope Steven never stops making this brilliant music...
Devastatingly beautiful. Steven Wilson and Ninet Tayeb - may they ever make beautiful music together!
All the grief stages embedded in one song. Amazing and tragic.
Ninet it is so 💖 stunning to hear you sing this song live and to empty space with Steven
This is one of the most beautiful videos I've seen... I'm repeating it exhaustively.
No doubt, Steven Wilson is one of the greats of our age. Composer, musician, talent spotter. Huge talent himself. I am so grateful to have been born in his time.
