- Xiegu G90 Powerpole mod
I followed the Power inlet swap mod pics and description as shown on the following page:

Need Powerpole connectors for the project? Check out Quicksiver Radio. Not sponsored. Just a local ham that has some cool stuff in the store.

Much Mahalo, just did it last night 20240705 Friday. You were right about always checking fitment of power poles, very slow process. I unscrewed golden screw stand for easement of sliding powerpole through refitted hole with a needle nose plier. Do this step beforehand so you can have longer strokes while filing. Now I feel much better that there won't be that moment when I say I should of done it beforehand. Already did extended mod while I was in there tinkering.
Mahalo and Aloha from Honolulu Hawaii 🤙🤙🤙😎😎😎😎
I know this is 2 years old, but I just did this today successfully thanks to your video and it made a world of a difference. Goodbye trash connectors!
It is such a quality of life improvement!
Funny thing, I just ordered my G90 and it came in the mail yesterday. I was surprised to find it came with the power poles already installed on the back. I have no idea if this is something new the manufacturer started doing or what, but am very thankful it came that way. It was ordered online from HRO.
It's about time! Happy to hear they FINALLY fixed this. Looks like from the HRO site they haven't updated the GFZ-1 fan tray. But that's an easy fix.
Radioddity images still show the old power connector. HRO images do show powerpoles are installed. :)
@@nu1u_ant That's fantastic! Maybe HRO has some technicians swapping the connectors. Either way a good call on someone's part! I got the fan stand from HRO as well and can confirm the connector on the back isn't updated.
I will not upgrade mine until needed! Thx for the how to. 👍
Glad to have found your video for this new owner of the G90. Buying mine from another ham, it still had the POS OEM connector. Swapping it out for an APP was a natural choice simply because all the radio power cables I have around are configured with APPs.
For anyone undertaking the connector swap out, with patience and a fine mill file, one can enlarge the connector opening for a tight friction fit that, at least for me, works quite well. I opted out of using tape to mark the size of the opening in favor of going slow to remove metal and constantly testing the APP for fit. Because of little power the G90 draws, the 15A pins and APP housing are more than adequate.
Thanks for the detail here. My connector of choice is the xt60, but this is very helpful to see what I'll be dealing with.
Thank you for the in depth how-to. I plan on tacking this project this weekend. I love my g90 but hate the proprietary power plugs. Cant wait to have the functionality of the anderson powerpole.
Thanks for the video, however, I achieved the same by just removing the back panel completely. This involves desoldering the coax connector. But worth it, save all those filings flying around.
Plan on waiting for the factory connector to fail and will probably use your method. If others prefer to NOT de-solder, I would place a couple niobium bar magnets around the hole to catch the filings. 73 N3JLR
I just picked up a brand new g90 sweet little radio, the power poles I guess are on the current new ones
It appears they are being shipped with the powerpole connector from HRO. About time. :) But the fan tray is still the old connector. Easier to swap that.
I've never understood this infatuation with Anderson Powerpole plugs when the multipin Molex plugs supplied with most radios work just fine.
Oh I see a lot of G90’s getting powerpoles now. Great video Ant.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. Thanks.
just what exactly do you gain by doing this? the original connectors, while considered cheap toy connectors, supply the voltage and amps required.
30 seconds in has your answer.
I'm having problems with the OEM connectors not being tight enough and causing the rig to switch off. the wobble around too much - cheap and nasty
I'm curious what is that jumper wire running to the left of the transmit port?
Should have done Mars mod 11M since ya had everything open!
👏👏👏👏👏 excelente melhoria 👍👊🙏😎
Nice video de K4JDF
I've not changed anything to power poles yet. Can you tell me what size you used? I'm guessing there are many difference gauges/sizes out there...
I *think* I used 15 amp. If you are going to start powerpole-ing all the things, just get a bunch of 15, 30, and to a lesser extent 45 amp ones. The plastic housings are all the same size. Haven't noticed a huge difference between the cheap ones and name brand.
Do you know where a schematic can be found? I understand they are not available.
That I don't know. All I needed for this build was power wires and put it all back where I found it. :)
A $500 radio and you have to do all that that is insane why don't they just design it the right way especially that to make it cheap I'm telling you these stuff coming out of China it's still not perfected right that's why I'm not buying anything
not buying but still moaning about it - walk on
