    Bought 4 of these headway cells to replace a small 12v agm battery in a gate opener for driveway. Installed about 1 month ago, charged by solar panel. So far works great. These cost just a bit more than the agm from Home Depot. Thanks for your inspiration! Keep up the good work!

    Wonderful video Jehu thank you so much. You inspired me and I bought 44 cells a few months ago. Been learning, researching first and experimenting for my 13.8 volt system and turn on the 120v side when I need it for appliances. Wonderful demonstration showing the power and need to be extra cautious figuring out the right way to set a pack up. Like 4 parallel 10s @ 3.2v then the four in series with 4 charge managers. I don’t think you can keep these perfect balance without the expensive individual bms system. But they stay consistently the same surprisingly in a 13.8 4 pack. I ordered one 4S 150 amp max discharge and 40 amp max charge manager for $3 to do some 4s tests. I would feel better researching like a 40-50 amp max diode for the positive cable out. Happy building

    I Took fun to calculate what current could happen here !
    According as what I see you have forged steel, it means approximatively :
    0.13 Ohm*mm²/m you have around 0.2m of it with around 8mm²
    Approximatively 0.08 Ohm here
    Steal is about 470J.kg-1.K-1, to simplify here, we will take 100g of steel (0.1kg)
    As you shown melt is about 1370°C
    you have at 20°C to travel 1350°C
    (0.2*1350)*470= 126900 Joules
    to make it as Wh we divide by 3600 = 35.25Wh , means 2115Watt in a minute
    It took about 1:25 mins to melt it ; approximatively 1493 Watt in this duration where we can add 20% for loss = 1792W
    PJ = R*I²
    I²=PJ/R
    I²= 1792/0.08
    I²=22400
    I= 149.7A
    Your meter doesn's seems that far away !

If both of your main wire leads are the same length and connected well then your total current should be roughly twice that going through a single wire.

Very safe i`m impressed. but by the other side is the price, a powerwall of this kind will cost a fortune and finding a big BMS high current should be expense. but for small projects like a 4S - 4or5 P, 12 volt portable generator with inverter should be a good setup.

    Hi, funny to see what they are capable of. Normally these type of current measurement devices are current transformers. So a givven number of measured current results in a corresponding output current. 1/100 for the smaller models up to a few hundred amps (like yours) and 1/1000 for the bigger brothers. So you have to check 2 things. Is your thingy anywhere capable of measuring your mega current into something useful and if yes, did you use a matching load-resistor on the Measurement output. Good luck. Keep up the good work.

    You started and ended with 3.4V open circuit and this cells have an internal impedance around 2.5 to 3mOhm so DC internal resistance around 5 to 6mOhm thus using 6mOhm (6mOhm/12 cells = 0.5mOhm) your peak current when connected can be calculated as 3.4V - 2.8V = 0.6V (peak drop at initial connection) 0.6V / 0.0005Ohm = 1200A that rapidly dropped about half 600A at minute 5:00 in the video.

    • @Quroxify
      @Quroxify Před 5 lety

      Ahh just saw this let me take a crack at this. OK Hedway gives single cell impedence as 0.004 so 12 parallel = the reciprocal of (1/0.004) times 12 is 0.00033 ohms Next the wrench which is about the same resistivity as Chrome Moly 6 inches long and 8mm thick (if round) has a resistance of .007. 3 feet of AWG 2 cable is about 0.001. the vise grip on terminals about another 0.001. Looks like you are using a 50mv 500A shunt (your reading is off by about 10X so maybe it's a 50mv 5000A? IDK) which has a resistance of .050/500=0.0001 which all adds up to a total resistance of 0.00243 ohms. It looks like you're measuring voltage at the battery of around 3.1V so Amps should be in the range of 3.1/.0.00243=1275 amps. so yeah that makes sense. What shunt were you using anyway? 5000A? that would change my numbers somewhat. Hmm I included the battery internal resistance in the load but electrodacus included it as the battery separately. need to think about this. It might have been faster to connect 6P-2S and got twice the voltage at the expense of higher total resistance of 0.0343 ohms with 6.0V/0.0343ohms=1747Amps which is about 300A per cell

    • @electrodacus
      @electrodacus Před 5 lety +1

      Impedance of the cell is measured standard at 1kHz (so is not the same as DC resistance) that is typically higher as battery has also some capacitance so impedance number is lower than internal DC resistance.
      You do not need to know any of the other resistance value in the circuit as they can be highly variable and all you need to know is the battery internal DC resistance and voltage drop across battery that is measured in this video correctly. Knowing the voltage at all points during the test so can calculate the voltage drop across the battery and the internal DC resistance of the battery you can calculate the current going trough the battery that is the same with current trough any part of the circuit as they all connected in series.
      You can imagine the battery as an ideal voltage source in series with a resistor and as soon as you can know the internal DC resistance and voltage drop across battery you can calculate the current as I did above.
      There is no current shunt in the circuit but there is what looks like a hall effect sensor and that is probably rated at 100A thus as the current is at all times higher it will only indicate 126A as that is the max it can measure.

      @@electrodacus I know this was ages ago, but I just wanted to note that it was a nice concise primer of applying electrical theory in a few ways I hadn't seen demonstrated before. Thx! On the off chance this gets read: I was just curious if you knew of a simple way to measure resistance with a "multimeter" like the one I'm presently cursed with that can only measure voltages (busted junk), is that perhaps possible with any degree of accuracy?

    • @electrodacus
      @electrodacus Před 2 lety +1

      @@kurtilingus Do you mean resistance of a lithium cell or resistance in general ?
      For measuring a resistor you will need a known voltage supply maybe a 9V battery and you will need to know the internal resistance of your voltmeter or calculate that first based on a known resistor that will be in series with the voltage supply and voltmeter.

    No way would it be that many amps... 2 gauge wire has a fusing 10s rate of 1300 amps.... So 1300 amps through 2 gauge will melt in 10 seconds... Your insulation didn't even melt...... I would peg it in the 275-350 amp range based on my experience as a welder. The resistance and heating of materials limits flow. Try a 3s4p and redue the experiment

      I concur with jeiiman .. 1200 amps on a little #2 wire looks like it'd kill it quick but lemme see cuz I've seen 2/0 gauge is best when welding with 350 amps ,, the wire is about one milliohm so at 1250 amps that's a power dissipated in the wire of I-squared R of 1250*1250*.001 or 1562 watts which would heat up the wire very quickly. because the wrench is about 3 times the resistance it should get about 3 times as hot so maybe. Jehu said the clamp on was pegged at over 500A but run that by me again what the other ammeter was measuring, Did you have it dialed in right for the shunt you were using? and yeah I'd try it again with 2S-6P and use 2/0 wire. and a SK wrench lol

    Now somebody is going to build a welding rig, uses these cells, people have been stick welding with 12v batteries for many years
    Now it's time for a DIY lithium powered welding
    I think your amps as right, that was a slow heating up, steel has higher resistance than copper wire
    0.024ohms with a 3v power equal 125 amps, the slow heating to the melting point, and it really didn't take very long to get there
    Good welding can be done at 100+ amps and 12 to 18 volts,

    • @animefreak5757
      @animefreak5757 Před 5 lety

      it's possible, but very difficult at lower voltages. Most of the time when people stick weld in the field with battery's they use 2 or 3 in series.
      The actual voltage needed to weld is typically lower then what's used to start the arc. It may be possible to get a decent weld at 12v (not sure, i've never tried), but it would be very difficult to start and maintain the arc with such low voltage

      Hi, for that you need to give your budget, and if you want to be precise, you need to know your coefficient of air penetration of your vehicle. And many other things, like, what extra range do you want ? How much weight you have to carry on, what is the system you choose, modifying with guears or directly to the weels power ? Classic hydrolic assistive direction or replacing by an electric one ?

      tin hriberski he has a video where he compared these to 18650’s and other cells. The 18650’s are The lightest, least expensive option. So while these are great cells, their price, weight, and form factor are not as good as 18650 3500’s. These are amazing for their massive amp capacity so they are popular for radio broadcasters and car stereo builds.
