  • Guy (Farley Granger) tries to stop Bruno (Robert Walker) on an out of control merry-go-round as onlookers are terrified.
About Strangers On A Train (1951):
Alfred Hitchcock directed this classic suspense tale - widely considered one of the master's best works - tapping into the evil that lies hidden just beneath the surface of each of us. When two strangers - tennis star Guy Haines (Farley Granger), whose wife will not grant him a divorce, and wealthy but deranged young Bruno Anthony (Robert Walker), who wants to be rid of his father - happen to meet on a train from Washington to New York, the conversation casually turns to a possibly perfect crime: what if each committed murder for the other? There is nothing to connect the two men. No apparent motive for either killing. When the trip ends, Guy believes the conversation was hypothetical, and that he will never see Bruno again. Then his wife is murdered...and Brunoreturns for payback. Hard-boiled crime novelist Raymond Chandler co-wrote the screenplay of this film adaptation of the novel by Patricia Highsmith.

One of ny favorite movies. Robert Walker was a uniquely talented yet underappreciated actor.

One of the best if lesser known Hitch films, imo. Shadow of a Doubt is another one.

To this day, I still remember that intense merry-go-round climax when I had to watch it for film class about 3 to 4 years ago. Such a great movie this is.
I know most people consider it a masterpiece, but I think it’s kind of a shame how it’s not brought up AS often as The Birds or Psycho. Tell me a good Hitchcock movie should be put up on the same Hall of Fame as those other phenomenal Hitchcock films.

I like the cops in this one: the one guy says, "Hey! That's the killer!" and the cop, unfazed says, "We know that," as if shutting up Cap'n Obvious at the movie theater. Also, the cop who half-assedly tries to dissuade the old carny from climbing under the merry-go-round: "No. Be careful..." and his buddy says, "You wanna do it?"

A 4k release would be great, many of Hitchcock's films have already had the upgrade.

For some reason the music reminded me of the Alamo and Fall of the Roman Empire

Peter Lawford had anecdote how about Robert Walker and starlet Nancy Reagan. Very enlightening about former First not so much lady.
