      In the recipe she used both butter and olive oil, does the type of fat/oil influence how well the turmeric is absorbed? Is it beneficial to use butter or can one replace it with olive oil rapeseed oil for same effect of turmeric absorption?

    • @globeagentronburgundy9747
      @globeagentronburgundy9747 Před 5 lety +3

      Lego Head Well the woman in this video seemed to disagree with that as does the op of this thread as implied by the wording "also" when talking about black pepper helping with absorption.

    • @globeagentronburgundy9747
      @globeagentronburgundy9747 Před 5 lety +6

      Lego Head I have read several articles stating the same: the Curcuming is fat soluble, so consuming it with fats helps it getting absorbed into the bloodstream from the intestines rather than being prematurely absorbed through the stomach wall.
      I bet you know how to cook great food but your chef credentials frankly don't tell me anything about your credentials as a bio chemist or a medical doctor. If you have some links to some studies that have compared the absorption rates of Curcumin with and without fats, that would naturally be great and we would not need to rely on subjective opinions.

    We Indians use turmeric in almost everything. It gives colour, a nice mild aroma and is good for digestion.
    A lot of people drink haldi-doodh or turmeric-milk before going to bed, it keeps your skin and stomach all happy. You can also apply turmeric on your face but it can stain your face so make sure you put milk with it. Brides in India apply a face pack of turmeric, milk, honey and chickpea flour to get the glowing bridal face. Try it once.

      Let it dry for 15-20 mins and scrub it off, wash with water after that.

    FACT: Putting yellow mustard on a burn will cool it. Use this as immediately as possible, and let it dry. You won't even have any redness left after 20 minutes, let alone blisters!
    Wonder if turmeric gives similar results, since it was mentioned in the vid. I'll make this rice (or quinoa). I use turmeric A LOT, so I already know it'll be delish....thank you so much. BTW...beautiful video!

      I always do that. I stir the rice a bit while it's toasting so each grain gets the oil/butter on it. That prevents the grains from sticking together and gives a nice texture. Blanche is a great cook and I really believe in the health benefits of turmeric. Just made it. This recipe is a keeper. Turmeric and garlic are BOTH good for the immune system.

      I make it a little bit different, toast the rice as well with the onions and garlic first. Then add the water or broth. Oh, did you know that the reason they use parsley with a lot of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes is to balance the garlic flavor? Yes. You are supposed to eat the parsley as well, it is not there for decoration.

    The only thing about rice is that you have to eat beans with it, in order to properly digest the rice. The nutrients in rice alone-- coupled with beans makes the meal a complete protein. It's like eating bread without beans, but even then I still eat lettuce (etc) with the rice and beans in order to truly benefit from the nutrients from the rice, beans and greens(!)(.) Lovely idea for a turmeric garlic type of rice-- totally different taste from the very popular Puerto Rican rice and bean dish varieties.

    I would use butter to dissolve and infuse the ingredients and then add the olive oil once the rice has absorbed the water and ready to be covered with the lit to steam it. The butter has enough oil to precent the rice from sticking to each other.
