This is spot on. Demo’ed the best throws for self defense. I’ve been a police officer for over 25 years and am a long time student of Judo (Over 30 years practicing the art and sport), and Osoto, Ouchi and Kosoto take are the techniques I’ve used the most in real life situations with a combative suspect. I think I used Ogoshi (or an Ogoshi/Harai-goshi mashup) once. But mostly used on of these techniques to get them to the ground (and I’m a Seoi Nage guy when it comes to Judo. Seoi and old style kata Garuda when I compete/randori). So, really good video.

Beyond the basic sweeps and pins, I'd to learn some arm locks like ude gatame or ude garami from the guard, kata juji jime, suso jime, ude hiji ashi kansetsu, etc.

Ju do , "the gentle way" , "the gentle path" , and you really show it trough your teaching method..
I love judo , the power that judokas have , and the philosophy behind it is beautiful.
having the ability to hurt people , and choosing not to , its such a noble thing.
just to deescalate situations.. and so that no one get hurt..
amazing art to master in my opinion.
With judo you can show that if you wanted you are capable of hurting , and hopefully its enough to stop people that want to hurt you..
And amazing for self confidence too , it helped my mental health a lot.. just a great thing to learn..

Excellent selection of takedowns and pins, and thank you for great explanations of the details. I would add a caution that, as men are statistically more likely (than women) to face multiple attackers, one should have options for that possibility. Pinning one attacker when the others are coming is, everyone will agree, dangerous. The alternative is unpleasant: each attacker has to be prevented from attacking again and, I would think, that most likely means hurting at least some of them.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and expertise in Self Defense Judo, for Judi was the first fight discipline I actually began learning from a professional but unfortunately I had problems with the instructor of which years later I began to train in Muay Thai to possibly make the transition to MMA after moving up in rank.Unfortunately that to was cut short due to staying with a Caretaker who was forging my signature and stealing from my account of which I never told my trainer's being private unless asked specifically about something. Upon going back after getting away from my fowl caretaker and her restrictions which further crippled my training chances my Muay Thai trainer's had moved to a larger and better gym and I lost contact for good but the new owner instructed me to a KRAV MAGA trainer and I have been able to get a bit back on track with that after my mistake of fighting away from the gym and getting incarcerated. Now up in age with wear and tear Im more motivated to become part of a Special Security team for which since a child I never liked or loved fighting but always was taught and in many domestic cases forced to attempt defending myself or others of which I take more pride in then glory or recognition for fighting. With that said I always believed like MASTER BRUCE LEE to learn everything that matches your personality, abilities, capabilities, and possibilities to be more complete and the best verdion of yourself Unfortunately I cant get noone from my Krav Maga gym to train with me in any other discipline except maybe BJJ sometimes and I prefer judo and not just cause it was the first official fight style I began to learn at a school or dojo from a pro I just feel it is more secure for quick victories on the street over BJJ of which gives otjet attackers time to get me and doesn't compliment my KRAV MAGA as well.I do the Judo training when I can with willing people but for the most part Im more self motivated and shadow grapple.✌To you and your team friends and family 4 VIDA!

I don't really like to be laying on the ground so one of his friends can kick me. I'm not interested in controlling someone after I get them off me. I can't run very fast anymore but I'm still pretty strong so I tend to throw you on the ground and remain standing myself then step on your ankle or your knee while I'm running away so you can't chase me very well. I'm glad you show these techniques in the rare instance I want to stop someone from misbehaving but not prevent them from hurting me further while I'm running away.

I don't understand the philosophy. If someone tries to harm us in a street fight, wouldn't we want to incapacitate them as quickly as possible? Street fights are seldom 1 on 1, and no one fights fair, so we can't be lingering on the ground, e.g., their buddies join in & start kicking us while we are on the ground, they pull out a weapon.

Judo philosophy is not about fighting in the street, but it can be very powerful self-defense and also can be really dangerous for those who don't have ukemi techniques, which is why we start practicing judo with falling techniques, and even Olympic champions still practice ukemi at every practice. Thanks again for your comment.

Technique 1 is not good to follow. When you plant your leg behind the opponents standing leg you are easily reversed. The opponent and you are now at equal balance and you can be easily thrown too. This should be clarified, it is not a good throw performed this way. The sweeping leg should never plant behind the opponents hips.
